Lil garrie would be nothing but a K Mart Dusty in these days, didn't have the tank to play in the middle, he never even averaged 20 disposals once in a season, and far too undersized to play as a key forward, bloke would get physically dominated by any modern Backman

Prove me wrong, Lil garrie, wouldn't last, bloke wouldn't even past a drug test KWAB
'Lil garrie' went alright, could play. As far as him not lasting in the modern game I agree, these 'physically dominant' modern backman would all find themselves lined up in the Alfred Hospital after a quarter and 'Lil garrie' would be fronting the tribunal for putting them all into next decade.

Yes flat track Lil garrie kicked a bag against the bottom of the era in a semi professional era, the bloke was barely 6 foot how scary

Fun Fact: Ablett kicked 46 of his 87 goals against the top four teams in 1989.

To put that into perspective, Jason Dunstall kicked 36 of his 138 goals against the top four sides in the same season.

And still couldn't win a grand final, only delivered when he would get on the end of his midfield work
This is the stupidest statement I've seen today, quickly one upping your earlier post. You're on a roll.

The flat track bully claim was quite easily refuted and yet you doubled down.

Geelong didn't win a grand final because they had no defence, and a midfield that didn't quite step up on grand final day. Also, because they played better sides. One player can't negate those simple facts.

Couldn't deliver as it was Ablett, Hocking, Couch. Then the next tier in Bairstow, Bews, Brownless, Stoneham and then a lot of also-rans and then mostly a bunch of spuds.

Imagine if he played for North Melbourne or Essendon or any of those clubs who had excellent coaches and valued defense

Ablett Sr is not even Geelong's goat. I have him 3rd behind Farmer and Wade.
Someones been reminishing about the distant past a little too much.

ablett had a higher goal average per game then wade despite not become a full time full foward until his thirties. Wade played no where else but full foward. Think about that.

Must have been a weak era if thst group of players made a grand final
Lol. It was probably the toughhest era of all time

the hawks and bombers of the late eighties, the west australian state team, the pagan/carey kangeroos and the 95 carlton team that rorted the salary cap.

the only other period with the top teams as strong was 2008 to 2012.

Nah, 1989-1995 was a very weak era, after the golden years of the late 60s to the early to mid 80s

Lol. Backman got away with murder back then, ablett would get 20 frees a game if they umpired the game the way they do today when he was playing.

and if ablett played in the everyones a midfielder era of today he probably would of built up his stamina like ablett jnr did rather then be a traditional half foward flanker. Would of made him afls don bradman and michael jordan combined if he did.

ps. funny how you forget to mention he averaged over 4 goals a game. Whats better? 5 extra possesions a game or 2 extra goals?

If you want a KPF the goat is debatable, but probably Coleman or Hudson or Lockett.
If you don't want a KPF the goat is Matthews.

GAS and Carey and Franklin and Bartlett and others in the tier below.

End thread.

lil garrie always got a armchair ride whar are you talking about

Ok then champ. There was only the West australian state team, hawthorns most dominant side of any of their eras.

ps. What was richmond like back then! You guys were worse then fitzroy.
And the Richmond, Carlton, Hawthorn and North Melbourne sides of the 60s, 70s and 80s would beat them all, I'll even back the Collingwood sides of that era to beat them too
