Going to the Footy Alone

I revel in solitude. Obvously, love my friends but going out alone is great. I always go to the footy alone.

I've gone to Freo games here in Melbs by myself at times
I am in the cheer squad, however I have enjoyed sitting to the rear of the cheer squad at times and just focusing on the games. Agree with other posters u do tend to see a lot more. I've enjoyed it, got a little bit tipsy and made some friends on the tram ride home ;)

I'd happily head to a game today/tonight by myself if there was one on!!

Been many times to games by myself.

To Melbourne and Perth for footy weekends.

Chuck the headphones in, find yourself a great seat at the G grab a tray of 4 beers and sit back and really absorb the game..

I love going with mates but half the time I find myself missing parts or stuck in lines buying rounds hearing the roar thinking "**** what happened?"

Cricket is different, too long a day to go by yourself....

Actually might have a look at the fixture for a weekend with 3 or 4 decent games on in Melbourne to head over for...

Just wondering what people's thoughts on going alone to the footy are. I'm pretty new to Melbourne and would like to attend a few matches this year but at this stage don't know anyone to go with. If you were at the footy and saw someone sitting by themselves would you think they were a bit of a loser?

Only real losers will think that, Heck ive been to the movies and the footy on my own heaps of times

One of the best day's I had at the Footy was when I went by myself all be it it was the '09 Grand Final.

Took about 3mins to get into having a chat with the folks around me an together we cheered our heads off even though we only met each other 2 hours earlier come the final siren there where were hugging and crying on each other's shoulders a day I will truly cherish till my dying days

Think about the mentality of someone that thinks lowly of somebody that is at the footy by themself. That person is just a judgemental loser that lacks a sense of self-security as they could never do the same thing themselves. Are they really worth worrying about? Of course not.

It's like rocking a fashionable $400 shirt. The person decked out in Rivers is going to be hating on you for looking fresh as hell. Are they really worth worrying about? Of course not.

I agree - Just do it.

Only been to the footy alone maybe 3 or 4 times in 5 years and its been a good experience.

Always ended up in the standing area, and always manage to strike up a conversation with the bloke next to me on a mutual hatred of something (a particular players performance, umpires or lack of tatical nous being implemented by the coach).

Even though I was quite young, but it was probably easier going to the football by yourself with the suburban grounds because I know particular at princess park everyone had their own section and you knew everyone pretty well.

Wow this is really interesting, i am a girl who loves footy more than most boys i know and NONE of my friends are as into it as me. Also most of my boy friends who go for Collingwood live in the country and don't get to many games.

So i have been contempating attending games alone, now i won't feel so silly if i do. :))

Knock out a few teeth and I'm sure you will fit in nicely with the rest of the pie fans.

+1 for Rivers reference (BACCS would be exploding right about now)

If like me most of your friends aren't that into footy then what else are you gonna do? Sit at home and feel sorry for yourself?

I dream of going to the footy on my own!

Used to do it all the time when I first moved to Melbourne.

Then we had kids.

Now a trip to the footy requires hours of preparation, and I spend most of the match saying things like:

"Shut up!"
"Sit down!"
"Stop fighting!"
"No you can't have any f&%#ing chips!"
"You sit there and you sit over there!"
"Put that away!"
and
"Stop playing with that!"

Sounds like you're in charge of the Tigers cheer squad.

Well that makes at least one of you.

I'm sick of parents ignoring their pain in the *** children while they run riot and spoil the show for the grown ups whose taxes will be putting food on their table one day (if they aren't already).

Being from WA as a non member it's near impossible to get into games sometimes, and now living overseas I obviously never get to go to games. If I had the chance to go to a game alone I would do it in a heartbeat, i would even go 22 times a year alone. Don't take the game for granted, if you can only go alone, go alone.

I'm thinking of going to the Carlton v Adelaide game on my own tomorrow, but I'm not going to pay much to get in. I'm going to hang around outside the stadium until I find a way to get in for free. I have found that people often offer you very cheap or free tickets if you hang around the booking windows.

Gee whiz that's well said. Couldn't have said it better myself :thumbsu:
