Joint Frosty Miller Medallist Brodie McLaughlin and experienced key defender Jake Stein have both been added to the side that defeated Box Hill in last weekend’s Preliminary Final.

McLaughlin has kicked 52 goals to date in 2023 while Stein has been a mainstay in the SUNS defence, missing only the Preliminary Final.

The pair come into the side in place of captain James Tsitas, who will miss the Grand Final through suspension, and SUNS Academy talent Nick Williams who features among the emergencies.

Charlie Constable will captain the side in its first premiership decider in the absence of Tsitas.

The side features 20-AFL listed players alongside three SUNS Academy prospects in Campbell Lake, Jake Eckersley and 16-year-old Leo Lombard.

Grand finals are a very different game, a lot more physical and frankly nasty, could be the making of him or it could destroy him. Hopefully they’ve got this call right
Respectfully disagree. It's the same game, first team to settle their nerves and play their game wins. He had great composure last weekend, and I am the least bit concerned for him handling the physicality if it all

Well in my self imposed rules of only commenting on “mini gf” games I suppose a GF allows me to comment.

So we’ve learned this week that the VFL hierarchy want Werribee to win…no surprise there as it’s the actual VFL.

So if you attend you have a job to do. The biased Melbourne based VFL Umpires will give every 50/50 call or non call to Werribee.

We will need to be dominant in order to win by just a narrow margin.

So our Victorian Group need to be exceptionally loud and call the umpires to account.

They will be a disgrace but maybe if you put some pressure on them they might tone it back.

Do your bit please. This is an opportunity to break the curse.

I felt like Lombard went a little too far if anything with trying to impose himself on the game and not be intimidated last week, with some of his hits/late hits/attack on the ball, which was awesome for a 16 year old in the second highest level of football in the country.

The kid will be fine with the occasion. He seems to just have that ‘IT’ factor.

These are the changes in the team from the team that played Southport in last years prelim. Basically a new team!

In- Stein, Graham, Johnston, Farrar, Jeffrey, Davies, Blakeley, McLaughlin, Chol, Day, Lake, Lombard
Out: Macpherson, Thompson, Nicholls, Andrew, McLennan, Flanders, Conroy, Corbett, Bowes, Murtagh, Corbett, Foggo

With Tsitas out, may as well chuck Hollands in the middle in that role (can go forward for a goal too, same as Tsitas would). Can go with Blakely, Constable and Davies.

Faulkhead and Sharp wings, with Ace rotating.

Our team got a lot taller with Stein and McLaughlin coming in though too, so need early dominance.

Cannot wait for tomorrow. Tomorrow will be full of history for our Club. A great moment for the Club to reach our maiden Grand Final. I am honoured to be able to be there.

PRE GAME MEET UP
We are having a meetup from 12:30pm at the Cornish Arms Hotel in Brunswick – just up the road from the ground. We have a booking for the rooftop* bar (with light menu and drinks available for purchase). We will leave the Cornish Arms at approx. 1:45pm to hopefully march down to the ground (numbers permitting) so please don’t leave it too late if your planning on coming over and marching! Come and have a drink and snack and meetup with SUNS fans from around the country pre-game – for a lot of us this may be the last time to gather like this for the year. * unfortunately the rooftop doesn’t have disability access

The SUNS Cheersquad has been allocated a bay in the seats in the new matchday pavilion terrace area (see map) of the ground right next to the new Carlton headquarters near Gate 6. We encourage all SUNS members and supporters to come and join us to gather as one to cheer on the SUNS on Grand Final Day!

I do think that we as a fan group are not where we should be in our “culture” so what you are doing here and anyone helping you should be applauded.
Well done.
