Fiorini can’t play this game, due to playing too many AFL games. Not sure why he didn’t play last week in the VFL since he wasn’t made sub. Maybe someone was under an injury cloud (or he was himself).

And a heap aren’t or will never be AFL standard. I think we’ve seen this year that it doesn’t really mean much when players are AFL listed.

Might have been a bit of forward thinking to leave sharp and Markov out of the afl side late in the season, they played 12 and 11 games respectively. Conveniently just qualifying for vfl finals.

Rule has been 6 VFL games, or one VFL game if you have not played AFL after June 30.

Pretty sure that rule has gone. Got a source? One reason is you now you have players who were the unused AFL sub playing the same weekend in the VFL.

Well done to the our Gold Coast brethren - the Southport Sharks. Brisbane have fielded a pretty strong team today with players like Ah Chee, Cockatoo, Fort, Fullarton, Coleman etc but Southport are just doing what Southport has done for decades. It's great to see a VFL preliminary final will be played on the Gold Coast this year and even better that it could be an all-Gold Coast fixture for a spot in the VFL grand final! I also like the Sydney match up for us next week, particularly given they have been absolutely dominated by Casey today and should be a bit low on confidence as well as potentially missing players due to the AFL final taking precedence. Funny to think our pathway to a potential Victorian Football League grand final involves two games on the Gold Coast and one game in Sydney (time to change the name of the league?). Just goes to show footy in this part of the world was never as weak as people down south would have you think.

First things first though, we need to beat Box Hill at Metricon tomorrow.

Same but I think Southport have put themselves in a fantastic position to win the flag this year so you have to applaud their efforts to secure a home prelim. It's still entirely possible that we'll have a QClash grand final given Brisbane beat Melbourne convincingly last week and should face them in the prelim in two weeks from now. At least we should have a dog in the race each week of the finals whether it be our reserves or the Sharks.
