Hard to judge Gold Coast. Richmond are probably the worst stoppage team along with west coast and they also cant move the ball. But when they upped their pressure Gold Coast were very vulnerable. If we’re on defensively and execute in front of goal we win this.

If Seed is correct, it won't even out until a few rounds in. They can't keep playing each other for 5 weeks. I get why they did it and there was 3 good matchups, but there is a risk as to advantage/disadvantage. That said, they handed us and Port an extra home game out of nowhere, so hard to complain too much.

No - just the first two weeks (opening round and round 1). That way everyones first hit-out is against an opponent who is also having their first hitout.

Don't think it really matters after that and TBH there is no precedent. Nobody knows whether it an advantage or disadvantage. This is the first time happening.

I think its a small advantage for us playing Gold Coast in this scenario as we at least have some footage of how Hardwick is going to have Gold Coast play.

Just posting what Seed was quoted as saying. Maybe you know more than him, you usually do.

Not entirely.

Seems to me thats more your opinion and not Seeds.

I usually know more than Paul Seedsman? Didn't know I had ever disagreed with him to be honest.

Below is what I was referring to. Seed saying it takes a few rounds to build the match fitness and the 8 clubs being a week ahead. No way can that be interpreted as being only a one week advantage.

Paul Seedsman mentioned on Twitter how much of an advantage it will be for those teams who have played already. He referred to the match conditioning taking a few rounds until the fitness really kicks in and how these 8 teams will be a week ahead of everyone.

I feel we'll need to hit the ground running for this one. GC will be full of confidence with a new coach and good win first up, not against quality opposition, but a good win nonetheless.

No doubting they have a talented squad, and quality all over the ground. Our backline will be stretched, especially if we concede a lot of centre clearances, which given what Rowell did last week, is very much on the cards.

A tight contest coming up, and these (away) wins will be the difference between making finals or not. We showed last year that we can win the majority of home games, so we must start winning away.

I'll be tipping GC, but hoping we can come away with the W.

Heading up to the Goldy to watch this game, first time at the stadium since they renovated it over a decade ago! Went to the last match we played there against Richmond (last match before reno I think).
Stadium is great , getting there and back to somewhere to enjoy dinner / drinks etc is a mission as it’s kind of middle of nowhere which is a shame

It took Nicks about 3-4 weeks to figure out what side he actually wanted to play last year, so there's the potential for some sort of selection or positional blunder early.

Combine that with a night game in Gold Coast, our first game against their second, and we're playing away... lot going against us here.

I'd be more confident if the game was half way into the season but our record away last year was awful (only beating Hawthorn narrowly and West Coast) so I'm not getting my hopes up

Yup, we will just "back the boys in"
You say that as if that’s a bad thing

With GC’s overall midfield strength (Anderson/Rowell/Touk/Flanders), I’m not sure focusing greatly on one player is the right move (at least at the start of the game), compared to just simply trying our hardest in the H2H battle?

Thing that worries me is that even in the Michael Mouse game against West Coast, there were many CB's and other midfield duels in which Tim Kelly etc dominated us.

GC's midfield is infinitely better than WC so will just be interesting to see if we can hold our own there.

I feel like we will be really scrappy early, miss alot of easy shots etc but then get into the game.... Only issue is that it may be too late A la the Richmond home game last year.
That would be very on-brand for us. On one hand I'm optimistic about our prospects this year, and think Richmond are a spent force. On the other hand, we lost to Gold Coast away last year and they're an up-and-coming side.

I'm tipping a close win or close loss and can't decide which. I'll go Crows by 7 points.
