I agree with Anzacpaul that a primary midfield rotation of Dawson, Laird and Crouch isn't good enough to win a flag. Screams St Kilda, or North under Brad Scott.

It also runs the risk of limiting development for players with a chance of being superior to Laird/Crouch, like Pedlar, Rachele and Soligo.

If we're to keep Crouch we should trade Laird
Just move him back in defence

In their rebuilds they invested in their midfield, we haven't spent a top 10 pick on a midfielder yet.

We're nearly at the end of year 4 of our rebuild and we are playing Sloane, Laird, Crouch and Dawson as our main 4 midfielders. Thank goodness Dawson talked Nicks into moving him in there otherwise we would still be Keays as a mid.
Rachele and Pedlar (borderline top 10 pick)? Rankine also had his highest career possession this year and had 5 games with 20+ disposals playing up the ground.

You are seriously the worst possible supporter a club could ask for. Just look at yourself in the mirror - do you like what you see? I am embarrassed for you.
Whats wrong with what he said?..

I can guarantee you they wouldve been slapping each other on the backs after that game..

”good effort fella’s.. we almost got there!.. geez, we’ve pushed the teams in the top 4 this year.. good signs”

thats fxxkn BS.. we shouldve won that game and we should be absolutely filthy about it.

if you are happy about that game then its you that are the problem as its clear you accept that mediocrity.

6 years without a finals showing. Thats poor.

whats worse is its some of our senior players that are consistently letting us down.. yet this club shows ZERO signs of punishing these precious little bastards.. instead it fxxkn rewards them.

If we're to keep Crouch we should trade Laird
Or return him to the backline lacking experience.

We can't afford to be losing experienced players... unless they are cooked.

Pedlar will be a good mid if we ever play him there but Hamish generally doesn't believe mids should be taken top 10. He likes looking for diamonds in the rough.

How does it hurt our defence
The back end of his contract in 2025 and 2026 he'll be 31/32 and getting exposed in defence like Sloane would be now if we played him there.

He won't have any trade value or takers if we wait until then to move him on

Exactly what top mids were available and were taken around our pick in the top 10? We were always taking Thilthorpe with JUH tied to the Dogs and went Pedlar at pick 11

Sure enough spud Nicks will get another deal and we will finish 7th-10th the next 3 years.

We were playing very well without Crouch earlier this year so I disagree we can't afford to lose experience

Now people have suddenly changed their mind and see Crouch as a must keep. I don't see it taking us to a premiership and think we need to shed experience to expose and develop the potentially elite juniors on our list

Rozee, Butters, Serong are a good start. You probably shouldn't have gone there. You can't defend Hamish. We had plenty of picks to upgrade to get Rozee before you say we didn't have pick 4.

Butters wasn't a top 10 pick for starters and Rozee was off the board before our pick.

Quality is quality.

But we also need to have the right team balance too.

Yes thats even worse that he wasn't a top 10 pick and we still didn't take him.
For starters you have to have a buyer to upgrade your pick....i.e. even with the ridiculous offer we put forward for Horne-Francis North didn't bite.

Don’t think it’s mental, I think it will click quickly as this group continue to get experience. Finals would be great this year but I don’t think make a difference to 2024.

Agreed. We don't have the list for it to be primarily mental at this point, especially against the top 4 sides.

Of course there is some of it, seeing this is a team who had three losing seasons before it. Even then though, that's probably just fixed by experience.

For most of the senior players (except Tex) it is mental. Scarred from 2017 and likely even before that.

As Blighty said “first you have to play in close games, then you start winning them”. We turned Adelaide oval back into a bit of a fortress this year… tick. Next year it’ll be winning close away games!
Blighty wouldnt put up with this current shite.

sloane wouldve been dumped to the sanfl months ago and told at years end to pack his bags.

Blight was never scared to move on club champions/veterans/fan favourites.
