the issue isn't what's on the list, it's what's not on the list. Our current midfield will never contend for multiple years in the top 4. We're going to finish 7th-10th this year and go into next year with the same 'make the 8 and anything can happen' strategy, so it'll be Sloane, Laird and Keays filling the midfield minutes again. There's always new and inventive excuses made for either not playing kids or shunting them to peripheral roles in favour of middling senior players. We are still meant to be rebuilding, if this is it, we're just going to be hanging around the lower part of the 8 for the next few years.
Disagree with this, we are clearly giving midfield time to Rachele, Soligo and Pedlar this year so with their 3rd preseason (will technically be Pedlar's 2nd) they will be naturally getting even more midfield minutes as they build their fitness. Blind Freddy can see the club know these 3 will be the core of our future midfield which is why they been getting these midfield time this year and what wrong with Laird getting midfield minutes, while not a genuine A graders he is a solid B+ grader and very underrated even by supporters here.

Thought that was one of RT best games for the year
So good when the ball hits the ground after a ruck dual.

Seemed to attend more ruck contests last night than usual.

Is anyone else warming to Dwayne's commentary? Over the last few I've watched with him commentating I've actually found him to be quite entertaining.

I'll armour up and wait for the incoming.
I was just watching the GWS/North game and, look, he's kinda funny. But also, some of the lines he comes up with are just unnecessary. Almost like he's coming up with these things before the game and shoe horning them in when he can.

"Scoops it up like a responsible dog owner" and "puts him in the rotisserie" were 2 from today.

And the Eagles won centre clearance by 5 last week even though Collingwood beat them by 10 goals. They also won centre clearance when Carlton beat them by 100 points

Our big issue is that our developing midfielders are all second year players. We don’t have any in the 3-5 year bracket and that leaves them to be managed through the year. I would hope we see a much greater transition next year after another pre season

Schoenberg is a 4th year player
Hately is a 5th year
Berry and Cook are 3rd year

So either we've wasted a lot of picks or we're not good enough at developing midfielders.

I can't stand Bearded Clam's negativity. I have bowed to the inevitable and ignored him.
And yet he adds more to the discussion than you ever have.

Last night’s “losing his feet like a dog trying to run on lino” was one that I will admit made me grin..

He moves like a mid in congestion.

Just has to watch those low kicks that get smothered.

He might be trying to channel Dennis Commetti, who had some great ones. After a big pack/scrimmage that resulted in a ball-up and no free kick he said, "Like a Melbourne tram: everyone piled on but nothing paid."

Not every draft Pick is successful.

Berry, Schoenberg and Cook were all taken with picks in the 20s

Chances of drafting a 200 gamer with a Pick in the 20s is 13%

Chances of drafting a 100 gamer with a pick in the 20s is 35%

Average games played by a player picked in the 20s is 81.

Berry and Schoey looking to be above average picks

Berry and Schoenberg are definitely a concern. Cook started well behind with his shoulder and not sure will make it. But these aren’t high picks, these are a 1 in 50 chance

Rachele pedlar are the obvious ones - with Soligo being our smoky hopefully

Nicks mentioned in his 3QT interview that Rachele would be getting more CBAs in the final quarter, but he wouldn't be changing anything else. Not sure what actually happened in the final term with CBAs but it is obviously something they are thinking about in terms of managing workload, opportunities and team performance.

I suspect that Rachele and Pedlar probably couldn't handle the sort of midfield workload that Laird, Dawson, Keays and Sloane can at this stage in their careers. Could be wrong though.

Yep, doing something poorly with greater consistency is definitely a pathway to ultimate success.

Heard this. He's such a loser. Showed how little he actually knows about how this competition works.
Conversely if we didn't have to play in Geelong, Ballarat, Tasmania, Darwin, Western Sydney windy/cold/humid conditions Tex might be 10 clear of the competition.

Hollands is the one. Will be behind Anderson, Rowell and Touk for next 5 years at GC and has all the talent and physical profile we need. Need to try this year even though he has 1 year left.
Currently struggling in the VFL doesn't fill me with confidence that he's a worthy target post ACL

No way he'd be considered for AFL selection the way he's playing.
