Sounds like a statement about being ruthless.

Especially as there is no genuine benefit to giving kids CBAs, and hopes of an elimination finals berth this year could come down to percentage, it's reasonable.

Thanks for joining us Mathew, good win last night.

Not sure if you checked the stats but we only won centre clearances by 2.

Thats right in a 20 goal win our mids could only win centre clearances by 2.

Perhaps you could give a couple of the kids more of a crack in the middle

It's your 4th year rebuilding and you're e still hooked on the Sloane, Keays, Laird combo.

Rankine, Jones, Soligo should all be having a run through the middle. Sloane really won't mind if he doesn't attend another centre bounce.

I doubt the players read anything into that, hawthorn beat them away by a similar margin a few weeks ago. Plus they know they're being beaten on the road, so there's a lot of work still to do.
I’m sure you’re right. I definitely don’t stay awake at night worrying about it

I don't know if this has been posted; apologies, if so.

Ten of the best from Tex:

Is there a tall KPF in the League with a better L-foot snap off one or two steps AND can dob'em from 50-55m out?
I don't think so.

We scored a large number of goals from centre bounces.

Ugly (or Hilarious?): Kane Cornes lamenting that the Coleman Medal is "skewed" this year if Walker wins it because Adelaide get West Coast twice.
So do Carlton, Curnow.

My $100 in bets was cashing out at $1,200 odd after he kicked his 3rd.
I'm not familiar with betting terminology, but I take that to mean at some stage you could have cashed in your $100 bet for $1200-odd. Is that right?

 ... ...

Winning 11 times your stake is pretty tasty. Weren't you tempted? :confusedv1:

And its amazing some here go frothing off their heads over a game like last night and still cant see the major deficiencies..

Midfields win GF’s.. if you havent got a top class midfield you have no chance. Name one club in the last 10 years thats won a flag with a half decent midfield not a top class one.. try and name just one of them.
This is pretty subjective and I suspect you'll just dismiss any examples, but if we are differentiating between 'half decent' and 'top class' I don't think the West Coast midfield of 2018 was 'top class'. Obviously they had some good players in there like Gaff (who missed the GF) and Yeo, but nobody who is going to be a HoF midfielder and nobody in 2018 would have said they had the best midfield. They had nobody in the top 10 of the Brownlow, which is largely a midfielder's award. They had nobody in the top 10 in the league for disposals or clearances. The only midfielder they had in the AA team was Gaff, picked on the wing, plus Yeo made the squad. As a unit they were a pretty effective midfield but not dominant and it wasn't their biggest strength as a club.

Midfielders are very important but broad statements like 'midfields win GFs' are wrong, I think. The Crows had an awesome midfield in the early to mid 2000s and never won a flag, largely because we were missing quality in other areas of the field. If you pick the best midfield in the AFL each year they aren't necessarily winning the flag, there's a lot that goes into it.

We do obviously need more quality in there - the hope is that Pedlar and Rachele come on as I think both have the potential to be top class midfielders, and maybe we pick up someone else as well.

I watched the Simpson post-match presser. It had the tone and feel of a funeral.
Simpson looked wrecked; tired, sad, angry. He seems like a decent man.
I almost felt sorry for the bloke.

Almost. :sneaky:
I actually thought he spoke well considering the circumstances

:expressionless:
I did not say he spoke badly. My post was tongue-in-cheek schadenfreude.

What I really wished is that it was Hinkley.

He is a good man, what he did for our club and achieved in the first part of his tenure was outstanding. Sad the way things are going, but it is a very tough game and the critics would say that he has to take some responsibilty for the current situation. It is totally not all on him however.

Management are hoping he gets so worn down that he walks, he has the safety net of a very well paid contract so he wont want for money whatever happens. Not that means everything of course. Interesting times ahead!

He might, centre square mid is a status level.

It’s not just about Tex, he re-did the Coleman race with all goals against the eagles removed. I kind of understand what he’s saying, but how deep do you go with this? As the other panellist said, Brownlow, AAs, where does it stop. Do we need to take into account variances in form lines during the season? The Coleman is won by the player that kicks the most goals, end of story.

It was, but I figured I placed the bets in the first place, why pull out now? That said, in the third he missed a shot from 20 out on a slight angle and I reckon it would have been hard to knock that back.

Not sure I get the criticism of our CBA distribution yesterday:

Not including O’Brien or Thilthorpe -

Laird 30 (8 centre clearances)
Dawson 29
Keays 21
Pedlar 11
Sloane 10
Soligo 8
Rachele 4
Murphy 1

Laird and Dawson the top two, as it should be, they’re our two best players (except maybe Rankine and Walker?).

Keays getting more as late, somewhat coinciding with his tagging roles. Tactically we can have a discussion about whether we need/should be tagging, but if we’re going to, Keays is obviously the option.

Next tier is Pedlar, Sloane and Soligo. IMO that’s about right for the development of Pedlar and Soligo, Pedlar in particular I doubt his body is ready for any more than that.

Rachele only 4 seems low, however given how many he was getting early in the year, my assumption is that’s a directive from the high performance department to lower his workload.

The only other name I’ve seen suggested is Jones. Tbh I think that’s a ridiculous suggestion. We’re talking about a guy who’s struggled for consistent form his whole career. Now that he’s found a role and is performing well in it, let him establish himself in the side and string some consistent games together, don’t go chucking him around the place just as he starts to feel he belongs.

How do you not get the criticism? We won by 120 points and gave most of opportunities to Laird, Dawson, Keays.

This was 100% the week to give midfield minutes to those you want to trial in the middle.

Nicks mentioned in his 3QT interview that Rachele would be getting more CBAs in the final quarter, but he wouldn't be changing anything else. Not sure what actually happened in the final term with CBAs but it is obviously something they are thinking about in terms of managing workload, opportunities and team performance.

I suspect that Rachele and Pedlar probably couldn't handle the sort of midfield workload that Laird, Dawson, Keays and Sloane can at this stage in their careers. Could be wrong though.
