Re: Mumford wants to be a Swan

Maybe I am naive, but I think we will be OK.

As far as I am aware our two highest paid players are Scarlett and Ottens, both of whom are into their last two or three years.

I also imagine Mooney would be on a decent wage and he may only hang around for another year.

Ablett and Selwood are in line for massive payrises but other key players such as Corey, Ling and even Chapman are pushing 30 (or will be next season) so probably only have one more deal to sign for the remainder of their careers.

True, the veterans list might just save us! :)

Re: Mumford wants to be a Swan

They're mainly pissed because they gave him a chance on the rookie list as a fat kid without a future in footy. Now he's showing his potential and Sydney are gonna most likely take him off us for virtually nothing.

Personally i'd let him go into the draft and hope Melbourne picks him up.

So would I, but Geelong are known for accommodating players wishes for when they want to leave. I wish we would play a little bit more hard ball in these situations.

Re: Mumford wants to be a Swan

Although the Swans have offered him a ridiculous amount of money, the main reason he would want to go to the Swans is he is guaranteed 22 games next year.

We have two new Ruckman and he could potentially be our number 1 Ruckman by the end of the season. That will not happen at Geelong.

At Geelong he is third in line. As a player you want to play in the highest level possible. If he cant get a game in Geelong of course he will go to another club for opportunities.

I think that the trade the swans will offer will be something like one of the trades listed below(I would love to get him for just a third rounder but that might not be enough):

Swans Get: Mumford
Geelong Get: Pick 28

Swans Get: Mumford
Geelong Get: Pick 39

Swans Get: Mumford
Geelong Get: Pick 39, Pick 46

Swans Get: Mumford, Pick 17
Geelong Get: Pick 46, Pick 14

What are the chances if we threw in wojo with mummy then you give us pick 14, if you are that keen to get him (e.g 4 year deal around $1million) then you think he is going to be a good proposition...throw in wojinski who is a dual premiership player and will have probably 3 good years at your club and will slot nicely into your backline/wing. Also frees up geelongs cap a bit with wojo leaving...thoughts?

Not really the only players we have available to put on the vet list next year are Scarlett, Milburn, Mooney and Harley if he goes around again and 2011 Lingy is able to go onto the list as well that is it as the player has to turn 30 prior to Sept of the current year and played with the club for 10 years

I'm just sad and pissed. Bloody salary cap

Highly doubtful with wojo...we're trying to get younger, not older!

Re: Mumford wants to be a Swan

Shattered to be loosing mummy. He was a real find this year! Although a 4 yr 1 million+ deal would be too much for any young man to turn down.

I just hope we get 1/2 decent compensation.

To all the Blake bashers, I'd say get behind him now. No point wondering about what could have been and how we should have Mummy over Blakey.....hindsight tells us we should have offered Mummy another contract during the season but who would have thought trade week would have played out the way it did.

Who is to say that we didnt?

Just do a Carlton the drafts going to be stuffed for the next few years anyway so missing draft picks aren't going to be that big of a deal so just let the cap be a flexible guide for the next two seasons or so;)

They might have to jump on Dawson Simpson bandwagon! He is massive at 206cm!

He might be needed if Otto cant get through a full year again.

Whats the go with Trent West? Has he been offered a contract?

Neil Balme is on the record as saying we offered Mumford a new contract halfway through the season.

He just chose not to sign it.

The club wouldn't be stupid enough to let such a talented youngster get to the end of a season without having discussed contracts.

True, but you have just lost possibly over 1000 games experience last year (o'loughlan, barry, crouch, hall, jolly) so you need a bit of experience around the place...Roos has a history of picking up recycled players, rhys shaw and wojo would be a handful to contain in your backhalf, throw in a malceski back to his best and you have a high rebounding very quik backline...

Re: Mumford wants to be a Swan

Pick 28 would be a fair result for him, a first round pick for a rookie is taking the piss.

Probably about right in terms of asking price.

FWIW, Sydney pride themselves on fair dealing, hell most fans think Jolly just went under true market value to accomodate his wishes and just looking at our trading history with a club like Collingwood shows you how many win\win trades can be made.

The Sydney crew trade in this year mindful of wanting to trade again in the future so I'm sure something will work its way through for both.

Thompson and Balme also met with Mumford yesterday to try and convince him to stay with the Cats.

From todays Age
The Swans have made a significant bid for young Geelong ruckman Shane Mumford, offering almost double the contract terms of the Cats. Geelong wants to keep him and coach Mark Thompson and football manager Neil Balme met him yesterday to try to convince him to remain at Kardinia Park.

Re: Mumford wants to be a Swan

one question is burning in my mind...

why the hell didn't Balme, Bomber and Cooke sit him down say two months ago and give him a contract then!

Did you just ask that? have a look on the previous page.

The Swans picked up Jolly at pick 14 as a raw boned recruit that couldn't crack a game with Melbourne.

Mummy posseses the reflexes, agility and attack of a medium-tall and is a future star.

Not many big blokes are blessed with these attributes and the Cats need to get due compensation.

Anything less than pick 14 is a poor result.

I just become very interested in Dawson Simpson. Not because i dislike Blake but because i am sure Otto will injure himself again next year and i don't think Blake can carry the team solo when he does. I know next to nothing about Dawson Simpson so am curious as to whether he would be capable of keeping up at Afl level next year if needed.

Not sure what to make of West's ability at Afl level after his game this year. Not ruling him out but i would like to see what Dawson can offer.

Re: Mumford wants to be a Swan

Calculations indicate that in order to eat his salary over 4 years, Mummy will have to go through 1370 sausages per day, every day.

Surely he woud sign with us for 1000 sausages per day!

Re: Mumford wants to be a Swan

How good do you think Mumford can become? I have no idea how to judge how a young ruckman will develop. He has pretty good ball skills but can he become one of the better rucks of the comp?

Re: Mumford wants to be a Swan

hope balm wants pick 16

or no deal

otherwise the dees can have him

year in year out we get walked all over

we traded king for jack, yet the swans play hard ball for a sacked player

mccon is a dog

Sorry mate but it looks like we are getting pick 28 from Sydney for Mumford, can't believe it, we are so soft, it's a joke. Why do we still have Blake ?. He has had 3 years to show us something, yet nothing, he still can't kick a ******* footy. I'm over Geelong and their money issues, it's getting so annoying, i hear Wojo is leaving to, well if that's true that's another disgracful decision. I love the cats and all but why are they so dumb????? getting rid of mumford has got to be one of the worst things ever, he is 23 and would easily have been the replacement for Ottens, but now we are stuck with Blake and West for the next decade, absolutly pathetic, what are they gonna do next, trade Ablett to the GC for picks 1,2 and 3.

Are you extracting the urine??

Every successful club has money issues, not just the GFC. That is what the salary cap is!!

Is this the same club that has won 2/3 premierships?

Getting rid of a ruckman who has played 21 games and is 23 years old is the worst decision? What would be worse is for us to chase his ass and pay him 300k year, something that he is CLEARLY not worth.

What are you basing your assessment of West on? He has played a handful of games and is developing. Blake is a premiership ruckman, who in the GF played a great game.

He will become 1 of the more versatile ruckmen. He will never be a top notch tap ruckman in my opinion but i may be wrong on that. In the end he will turn out a bit like Otto with the ability to play forward take marks and kick goals although will have more bulk to throw around in contests.
