It was always going to be a hard job for the VCFL ranking the leagues initially but it has got me buggered how they rated the Murray League in front of the Central Murray seeing as though the CMFL has beaten them in their past 2 interleague clashess which were not that long ago.

Do you know if there was a specific formula used to come up with the ranking bradrowe#32??

Just a question regarding the interleague game this weekend.

Like the majority of people on this forum, I tend to believe the GV is the strongest country comp in the state. The quality of players, teams and standard over the past two / three years has been as impressive as I've seen for years.

However, have the GV put time and effort into this years preparation for the Ballarat game? People have told me the Ballarat squad have been focussed on this for some time, leaving little to chance.

Hope we're in the same boat ...

Seems a bizzare ranking list, no way Ballarat is stronger than Geelong.

This is what the VCFL said;

All teams have been ranked 1 to 20 on a range of criteria from performances over recent years and are paired off according to these rankings. i.e 1 v2, 3 v 4, 5v 6 and so on down to 19 v 20. The results of all games will determine whether each participating league goes up a ranking for 2011 or goes down a ranking.

They don't really explain the 'range of criteria' so it's all a bit vague.

I think last year's rankings were;

1. Ovens & Murray
2. Goulburn Valley
3. Ballarat
4. Geelong
5. Mornington Peninsula Nepean
6. Hampden
7. Bendigo
8. Gippsland
9. Murray
10. Bellarine
11. Central Murray
12. Wimmera
13. Sunraysia
14. Western Border
15. Yarra Valley
16. North Central
17. Geelong Distict
18. Heathcote District

Ballarat ranked higher than Geelong as they beat them last year and under current system they progress to play GV.Whoever loses this week then goes to 3rd next year and would play 4th team

Had a lot to do with the Round Robin format of 2008, Geelong decided not to compete in that so they got demoted and faced up to Ballarat last year and lost as already mentioned. Murray won the Div 3 title in 08 so they were ranked 9th and ahead of CMFL even though CMFL had given Murray League a touch up in there last two stand alone games including '09. The 2009 games seem to have not counted too much as Bendigo beat Ballarat that year also and were given 7th spot to Ballarat's 3rd.

So, if the G.V beat Ballarat and MPN beats Ovens & Murray in the Victorian Southwestern Division East Northern, then Bendigo goes to the Championship playoff, unless Murray can upset Hampden and Central Murray ties Gippsland, then Wimmera would play Sunraysia, and Yarra Valley in a blind choice round robin. And if no clear winner emerges from all of this, a two-man sack race will be held on consecutive Sundays until a champion can be crowned.

Can't make it up to Shepparton this weekend but Ballarat will be nothing if not prepared - good coaching team and brains trust to try and make up for the big difference in playing stocks.

It was 6.6 (42) to 1.6 (12) in a half in 2008 and the recruiting done by GVFL with top-end talent has been insane since. The 2010-11 pick-ups by the league after riding out 2008 (no ex-AFL players joined the league) and 2009 (global financial crisis) has massively increased.

Haha, very nice.

Is that the same Newman fron st kilda city & darley? His a gun. Hows he goin in goalkicking?

No mate its a different one Paul NEWMAN has been at Kyabram since he was a junior and is captain of the GV Team. One of the best players consistently in this league year in year out.

Follow no team in the GVFL but do have an interest in this game. Find it surprising Mooroopna undefeated on top with only one player representing. Have seen a player Lachlan McGhie play a fair bit and he is a gun, so thought he would be in.

Thoughts?

McGhie pulled out through injury, think it was a shoulder op he had in the pre-season that he is still managing week to week, Adem Yze was picked in the squad also but was unavailable.

Good win by the Cats over Rochester yesterday - apparently Rochy had trouble matching up on a lot of Mooroopna's versatile players.

A talking point after the match was that it looks like Shane Woewodin might be pulling on the boots for the cats in the next few weeks.. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Saw the echuca v mansfield game on saturday. I admit i was wrong about echuca . Mansfield could'nt crack them all day. Very interesting to see in the shepp news that a Mooroopna insider reckons that Mansfield are the team to beat and that they don't rate Echuca. If i was campbell I would be spitting my cornflakes out reading that at the breakfast table-just given echuca ammo-DUMB
