Paul Kirby and Ben Cosgriff both to miss the big top of the table clash with Rochester this weekend due to hamstring strains.
Big loss. Should see Rochy go in as heavy favourites.

They only play each other once in the H&A season, so that's a real shame. I don't know the ins/outs for Rochy, but I think they'd be pretty close to full strength. Should be a good game though and I'm sure both teams will get a lot out of it.

Morrison Medal thoughts anyone? Good mail suggests a trifecta possibly of Kirby, Clarke and Newman...

Clarke would have to be among the favourites, Atkins from Ky would also be up there at this stage. Highly doubtful with Newman, you don't see too many key forward win league medals no matter how good they are. I don't agreee with it as its much harder to get a kick as a key forward than it is as an onballer but thats just the way it is judged by the umps.

Have heard that Mansfields ground is not up to scratch at the moment. This weeks game against Euroa was almost transferred to Bonnie Doon. Has anyone here played over there recently? Whats the go?

One team that will not be participating in the 2009 finals action is already in talks with a new coach for 2010, hope there early planing pays off......................

yep they sure did, Peter White got sacked on Friday night as coach of the Swans, got told over the phone on Friday night. Very unproffesional way to go about it.

Word is a few players are leaving in the fallout - Troy Snelson, Dan Collyer etc etc.

The GVFL Footy Show on FM 98.5 broke the story this morning :thumbsu:

Perhaps you should get all the facts before you comment. Yes it occurred over the phone but .......................

He was until they told him he would be required as a player
he fits into the average age of there 10 seconds players
How come Benalla have lost so many players, especially local lads? Since they joined the GV a decade or so ago, their 2nds and 3rds have always been pretty strong and regularly played finals. The seniors have been a bit up and down but they have always been a competitive outfit. This year all grades are struggling a bit like Tatura of the past few years. So whats been happening in Benalla? No one likes to see clubs struggle like this - It is good to see Tatura turn it around, but unfortunate to see 2 more teams in Benalla and Euroa take Tat's place. It is an unfortuante cycle in country footy but hopefully both teams can turn it around.

with more money being thrown around by minor leagues, clubs have had their 2nd teir senior and their better 2nds players targeted by rival leagues.

it is hard to compete with in these times, with the economic crises and so on, players are looking for money wherever they can find it.

benella have lost alot of players to the murray league and the ovens & murray league, whilst euroa seem to have lost alot of players to the KDL and also to suburban football, where there is plenty of coin if you know how to get a kick.

I have heard that are looking at a return to the O&M to replace a struggling team in that comp-only a rumour but apparantly gaining some momentum
that struggling team would be myrtleford...i would hope the GV could keep hold of benalla.

Isn't the O&M regarded slightly higher than the GVFL? Struggle in GV = Struggle in O&M...

Not sure if there is much difference but Mrytleford are really struggling and they wear the same colors. Benalla would need to recruit heavily to be strong in either league and it would leave Mansfield isolated. The options for a replacement would be limited as well

on benalla losing a lot of their younger locals... keep in mind some of them have been so exceptionally talented they have gone on to play at a higher level

tom rockliff - drafted to brisbane
will martiniello - starring with werribee's seniors in the vfl
ben birthisel - benidgo bombers in the vfl
james saker - werribee in the vfl
farran priest - murray bushrangers (although his club is now wangaratta)
al jacka - murray bushrangers
josh mellington - murray bushrangers

With three more games before the first round is complete, interesting to look at what teams will end up where after the full round has been played?

Very important round this week with Rochie at home against Mooroopna, Shep home to Seymour, Tat home to Mansfield and Ky playing Swans at home.

The next week's big games are Rochie against Shep at home, Mansfield play Mooroopna home with Tat and Ky playing the bottom taems.

The following week has Rochie vs Seymour away and Mansfield against Shep at home with the other top 6 teams playing the bottow teams.

These three games will probably decide whether Seymour can make the top six and they will find it hard.

Rochie have three hard games but will be favourites in them all.

Tat should win at least two withe the Mansfield game the big test

Shep have three hard ones so if they end up 2 wins and 1 loss will be a good result.

Mansfield also have three big games with them being favourites against Mooroopna at home so may be 1 win and 2 losses.

Ky play their three games against teams outside the 6 so should win them all, with Shep Swans the hardest this week

Mooroopna have two hard one against Rochie and Mansfield so will probably end up with 1 win and 2 losses.

The top 6, all things being equal, will pobably have Rochie on top, a game claer of Tat and Ky, then Shep a game further back and Mansfield and Mooroopna another game away. Swans will be ahead of Symour outside the top 6

Could someone please post Mondays shepparton news article on Peter whites sacking.
what a terrible decision! dont know the ins and outs of the situation but from my understanding Cheryl Hunter sacked Whitey, what a peanut!
all the players had a vote whether or not to play, 3 guys that whitey brought in this season were a no show at training. but petes told some players to play.
Women in sport ay....
shes great on a business side of things, money into the club, work ethic around the club etc. but stay out of the football side of things.

Super bloke Whitey and would be surprised if he isn't involved in football again somewhere pretty soon, highly respected , one of the more passionate people still left in footy !!
If the club has decided mid season that they can't or don't wish to honour agreements, I reckon you'll find they may well struggle to attract players for some time in the future ?
