just waiting for JD, Firemen and the other saints Nuff Nuff's to turn on cornflakes now.

is that the drum of the lemming marching band I hear in the distance?
Why would I turn on him?

I don't understand the decision but I will wait to see what they have planned before I comment on the club.

Don't agree with the decision but I agree with how it's been handled - so far.

I'm feel totally gutted for big Grant. He has taken his side to the finals for the last 3 years, including two preliminary final losses to the eventual premiers. It is very very sad news for a coach to be getting a side together despite the big losses to its major players ie. Riewoldt in 05, Clarke in the last couple, Hamill and Kosy in the last two, Hayes this season etc.

There is that feeling that he didn't do enough with a great side, but he didn't do enough IMHO, to get the sack, or close to it.

So am I. I know football is a tough gig and they are running a business and all. But it's hard not to feel sorry for someone who apparently walked in expecting an exchange of ideas as to how what direction the club was going to take next year (and the years to come) and ended up walking out without a job.
He was just plain not expecting it. He looked shattered and completely gobsmacked on the news, but all things aside, I think he handled it with class.

It'd be hard enough for anyone, but with all the media attention, it would be awful.

Best of luck to GT in whatever he decides to pursue & it'll be interesting to see who takes the Saints into '07.

In praise of Thomas - Rob Walls.
A major triumph of Thomas' coaching had been his handling of the veterans. You sense they have been kept on edge, being told that each game and season could be their last.
The coach is a loyal St Kilda man. He was at Moorabbin when a blonde and a beer beat winning a hard ball. He wants St Kilda to be successful and respected.

Thomas would not coach elsewhere.
Match-day moves is an area Thomas is improving at. Will Nick Riewoldt be on a wing or at full-forward? No longer is Stephen Milne stuck in the forward pocket. Who would have expected Michael Rix to line up at centre half-back last week? Montagna is now a top-line midfielder — ignore him at your risk. Dal Santo, if tagged, could become the new full-forward.

This is a team that increasingly keeps you guessing.
Are the Saints good enough to win a flag? Next year, with a full list, could well be their — and Thomas' — time.
:D

Apparently Starcevich has been given his marching orders just like his predecessor who was headhunted by Cornflakes.

A stunning coincidence.

Another reason why he was knifed after his fall out with Butters.

61 wins with that list isn't good enough.

I like Grant. But he isn't 'dumb' and certainly would have had some inkling of what was going on in the weekend! Very talented, he will not suffer the indignity of unemployment for long. His people skills are excellent and have gone a long way towards making this team as good as it is. But tactics are what win games and eventually premierships. I look at Sydney and wonder why the better endowed team is still to make a GF.

Great reply jeff, dont always agree with you, but you handled that question well. Do agree it was handled very well, wish my club would take a lead on this.

To say I am shocked at the decision is an understatement as I would have expected GT to have at leaast another year at the helm. However I am suitably impressed by the way the Club and GT have handled the situation, pure class (unlike previous years).

This demonstrates that the Club has taken the next step to becoming a more professionally run outfit, with results based outcomes.

This heralds a new era for the Saints and I thank GT for his time as coach (underrated to say the least) and back the club 100%.

You know, I would have thought so too. Surely you'd have some sort of 'feeling' about something as big as this. I think Grant said something on the news about how he doesn't consider himself a stupid person, but he really had no idea this was coming. Who knows...maybe it's like how they didn't hear the siren down in Tassie. ;)

You're right though - he is talented, and will surely get another job. :)
