Grant Thomas no longer saints coach

My problem will be with all the Saints fans who were absolutely unrelenting in their support of this bloke, who was clearly not very good at the important parts of his job, now turning on him.

Joffaboy, JD etc etc, you loved this bloke. Don't throw it away now.

Tell us how good he is.

This is a gutsy move by the Saints, have a bit more respect for them for doing this.

all i have to say is GOOD. grant thomas was probably the least media-friendly coach in the league and was portrayed as an arrogant a$$hole. he was neva gonna win the saints a flag eg. dropping all the tall players against the dees

It has come two years too late.
Yeah, they should have sacked him after they lost the Prelim final in Adelaide by a kick to the eventual premiers

To all those people who think the Saints will suddenly improve next year under a new coach, consider this : what if whoever they employ is worse than Thomas ? e.g people are saying that Pagan is no good and that he's past it. If that's the case then why would he suddenly be appropriate for the Saints ?

It looks as though they had decided that a loss would mean curtains for GT. Nice and quick. Right or wrong at least it was quick and decisive and didn’t require weeks of review and multiple board meetings.

Hey Mark
Are you concerned with the attitude of Eddie and the Collingwood board regarding Malthouse's tenure at the club.
I mean I've just read Len Thompson's autobiography (published back in 1999) and from what I understand, in years gone by, Malthouse's performance as coach in the last 3 years would have been deemed unacceptable by Collingwood.
You could argue that Collingwood have improved this year then the last two years, but for an club that looked okay for an top 4 position by rnd 16/17, to fall away badly in the finals against the 8th ranked team would be unacceptable. Surely Eddie has to consider that the Pies won't improve much if they keep Malthouse for an couple more seasons.

I actually think list management is as much to blame as anything. They should've got more speedsters through the middle and got rid of Powell et al and injury prone guys like Hammil last year at least.

A huge player clean out is to follow.

It is very thoughtful of you to be concerned about our club but i think you have enough crap in your own backyard to keep you busy for the next few years.

Pagan is a competent coach... poven also.

He's getting roasted at Carlton simply due to their rubbish list... through no fault of his own.

Malthouse proves this year by taking his team to 5th spot that theres no such thing as an old fashined coach.

This is the best thing St Kilda could'v done... i never saw them as a threat with GT.... depending on who they get, theyre every chance in 07

Best news l've heard all season... without a doubt. It was a blight on every other coach in the league (bar Clarkson) that he was in the same position as them.

If they now go and get McGuane, then they are only heading in the same direction as their last 50 years. Down the pub to drink and get smashed. 15 clubs hope that this is the new 'direction' they go.

Pagan would be crazy not to jump ship... he's clock is ticking at Optus Oval.

Me thinks Longmire is a certainty.

Malthouse,Worsfold,Laidley had him covered.I thought he gave the media plenty of quotes and ammunition to fire at him as well.

Not to go too far off topic, but wasn't the reason Blight got the kick was because he didn't have the support of the playing group? Sounds like a whole bunch of lieutenants and no soldiers. (or a team of once-a-year captains!) Blighty woulda done a whole better job than GT. Very few would argue otherwise.

All true except I think they should go for Mark Harvey

Buttress is nothing if not decisive and ballsy. Rightly or wrongly, he does make the tough decisions. At least the Saints board can keep their private information to themselves, which is a sign of solidarity and strength of leadership.

I can only agree, my mate lived over the back fence from McGuane while he coached Burnie. Lot of that type of stuff went on.

Thomas said he was "gutted"

And they are some big guts too.

Butters plunged the knife in, gutted Thomas and 2 large Big Mac meals, 12 chicken nuggets and the semi-digested remains of James Gwilt spilled over the Linton St change room floor.
