Great game

Good to see the puff piece by Rohan Connolly didn't go to his head this week.

Doesn't get a whole heap of the footy ATM, but what he does he does very well for a young player.

Joel Corey's back to 100% also. Remember how highly he was rated after the 2007 season, looks like he's starting to get towards that top gut running form again.

Corey really stood up all night. His last qtr was fantastic. Senior Cats stood up in the last.

Menzel looks a star in the making.

any team with wood as main ruckman will always lose. cats were good though they seemed to want it more. a loss is actually good for collingwood here as far a going back to back goes

meh, the result of this game had little to no actual relevence to the year. Cats had something to prove tonight, Pies did not. I think this showed through pretty clearly in the level of determination both sides showed. Cats should have won by more if they could kick straight...more clearly though Pies should have won if the umpire didn't decide to change the rule that players now decide when it's advantage. Essentially we got punished for Ottens hitting Wood high.

Full credits to the Cats by the way, exploited the umpires and won the game, at the end of the day winning is all that matters.

it's only round 8. We beat Colonwood last year in round 9 and then they smashed us later in the year. So while it was a good win for us the Pies will bounce back to their arse kicking best in no time.

Come on mate, this is the main board...

why, because the pies fans booed the loudest?

Because Geelong were heavily favoured in the umpring department in the first quarter. Started to work against them later but not enough. Then in the last quarter Collingwood were hard done and it wasn't just the Pendels disallowed goal.

Collingwood fans face it you loss, don't conplain about umpires & don't say you had players out because every team has players out all the time.

I would say that not having Maxwell and Jolly out hurt more than Geelong's outs.

Just loved the chant 'CCoooolllllliiiinnnnggggwwwwoooooddd" with 10 minutes to go in the last quarter and then Geelong came back and smashed them. Sometimes the Collingwood crowd actually works against them. great to see it though.

Well done "GGGGeeeeelllllloooooonnnnnnngggg"

Whistle blows as the tap is about to happen, 90% of players look to see who its for while pendlebury walks through 4 players and slots a goal.

Shouldn't be too hard to work out even for a collingwood fan.

So clever...I bet you're handsome too

Anyway, maybe an explanation from someone else as to why a whistle going at a ruck contest differs from anywhere else on the ground

Geelong! The best team in the comp!

They can be the best team in May

We had at least 4 of our best 22 out + several playing very underdone. The weather conditions also slowed the game down which worked significantly to Geelongs advantage; cant see them coping with our talls and runners on a dry day tbh.

All in all Geelong were clearly the best side on the night however I'd expect at least the same result as last years prelim final when we come up against them next time.

Finally, can any Geelong supporter explain how Hawkins is still getting a game. He surely wouldnt be playing senior footy for any other side in the afl.

Interesting observation.

To me the result almost incidental (although happy with the win obviously). Cats get a lot out of this game because shows the tweaked game plan stand up when last year it didn't. Proves we can now match Collingwood.

Upside is great for Cats.

Already i've heard a handful of collingwood supporters use this excuse. The play had clearly stopped, it wasn't a proper play on situation... If that goal had of stood it would have been a joke.

Geelong were given some cheap free kicks in the first quarter and some blatant ones weren't not given to Collingwood as well. Started to even up towards the end of the game but in the last quarter Geelong clearly were favoured.

If the umpiring was a bit more even Collingwood would've had an easier day.
If we had of kicked straight in the 1st quater, the game would have been ugly for the pies.

Cats are clearly the best team at the moment.
Look at the ladder.
They just beat the side which 14 days ago were "the benchmark" of the competition.
And they deserved it.
Great game to watch though even though it was low scoring.
Many interesting rounds to go.:thumbsu:
Go Pies.

Someone uses logic and you decide to talk gibberish?

The answer is simple, all Ruck frees are paid during the flight of the ball making them stop which in effect means there is no ruck contest aka a stop in play.

The difference is play is still yet to begin when the free is payed.

Fair point but we'll take it

Would have thought the conversion percentage would indicate that it affected Geelong as much as the Pies

Hawkins still demands a reasonable defender up forward and in the brave new world of substitutes he is a better ruck option than Blake.

Guys who weren't in the side that could keep him out are Mooney (playing like he's gone one year too long), West and Simpson. Clearly the latter two are behind him at present. He's a decent contest around the ground a developing into a decent ruck.

Could be wrong but did the umpire blow time on pretty much immediately?

Geelong harder at it all night, 21 more tackles.

Johnson, lulz. :thumbsu:
That comment just shows your ignorance of his importance, but it is no excuse.
We should be able to win regardless of who's in or out.

Really you could put at least half your list in the lulz category, that's if you never bother watching a Melbourne game.
