Agreed - that is the key detail I reckon. Given how many picks you got for him, I am assuming at this stage that the Packers are paying at least 30-40% of the salary - not much reason for the Jets to give away so many picks and then the Jets also take on the full salary and earlier contract terms.

Then again, the Jets be the Jets be the Jets, so we won't know for a little while yet.
Been reading reports that no matter what we're paying $40mil, there's no way out of that. However Rodgers is apparently going to sign a new deal on his way out to spread out that $40mil and then the trade will go through. ****ed if I know though. Will find out before the draft.

Pretty happy with Day 1 and 2 of the draft. Get another absolute freak of a pass rusher in to help Gary. Then finish it off with two TEs and a high upside WR to help Love.

The oldest skill player at the moment is Jones at 28 or something, hopefully it really allows us to get a solid core together to grow into the future.

No doubt we'll take some OL and DL to finish off the draft and a safety.

Packers WR Romeo Doubs said Jordan Love "can do the same exact thing" as Aaron Rodgers.

Love has been drawing high praise from his teammates this offseason. Doubs continued his acclaim for Love, saying he didn't see the difference between him and Rodgers. Packers corner Jaire Alexander called him the "best QB in the league." Love has fewer than 100 pass attempts after three years in the NFL, so his players don't have much more to work with other than his practice reps. Love was a toolsy prospect coming out of Utah State and has learned under one of the best quarterbacks to play the game. He could surprise fantasy drafters with his efficiency, but it's hard to see a ceiling outcome for the first-year starter. Mike LaFleur ran a balanced offense with one of the slowest paces in the league last year. That was with a four-time MVP at the helm. Expect an even more uninspired philosophy with Love under center.

This is hot

He's definitely learned a few things froom his predecessor, thats for sure.

Trying not to get too excited, it's only the Bears, and they're genuinely shit. But I love beating the bears. **** them.

No doubt the offense will be up and down this season given their experience level, but it was a good sign first up. Its going to be a capable ooffense at worst with JL in there. But I like the early signs of Reed and Musgrave.

Good season to get them into the program, cos it really isn't a hard schedule. If it was 12 in his prime, I'd be calling for an undefeated season.

Yeah, I don't want to say too much after beating the Bears but it's always good to get the year off to a good start.

The team from the broadcast, and social media videos look to have a real brotherhood that hasn't been present the past few years.

I hope Watson is back by week 3 and we can get a solid look at the offense all together, but the rookies did their job.

Our defense has been quite good the past 6 or so games we've played. Interesting to see if this continues.

At the moment there's only three main players I'm concerned with; Myers, Dillon and Watson. Myers and Dillon for their level of play being a worry and Watson just for his injury concerns.

Very happy with how the rookies played and of the players in the hot seat Savage played a good game.

Overall though it's a good position to be in currently. Hopefully Jones is ok to play this week as that's going to put even more pressure on Love and Dillon.

I could talk about Dillon specifically for hours. I think he absolutely sucks and is lucky to get any carries at all. He has the odd good game but any dime a dozen RB would do the same. Hope I get proved wrong.

They should move on from Myers.

Watson is a concern yeah. I'm more concerned about the conditioning team though. That's 3 hamstring injuries to skill position players at least so far this year. What are they doing? Not good enough in my opinion.

Dillon is a FA next year, the only saving grace for him may be Jones' contract and the heap of money we will owe him.

They should, not sure who will replace him though.

Wilson hopefully gets some work this week if Jones is out.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Jones' dead cap hit is like 12 mill or something if we cut him so we'd have to trade. I'd think we'll restructure him again.

Dillon is absolutely gone.

I imagine our RBs will be Dillon, Patrick and Wilson with Dillon and Patrick getting the majority of the work.

Just looking at our upcoming FAs and we're in a good position.

Gary is really the only one guaranteed a contract and at this stage you'd imagine Nixon, Savage, Whelan, Jones (OT) will be definitely offered contracts. With everyone else a wait and see.

Agree Dillon is gone, hit the draft and get a good replacement anywhere from rounds 2-4 depending on how the board falls.

Yeah the roster looks good, I feel it'll creep up on us quite quickly though.

Obviously the Gary extension is the #1 priority. Nixon for sure, Savage if he continues his week 1 form.

Fun times, will be interesting to see where they try to add to the team over the next few years.

Disappointing game, very winnable. Diabolical 4th quarter.

Again, expect the ups and downs with the offense, was just an inopportune time for 3 and OUTs when the Defense was clearly worn down. Defense has been good the first 7 quarters of '23, so I won't be too harsh. Those two dropped INTs were costly though, Alexander dropped a 6 pointer too.

Defense seemed to lose its potenecy a bit when Van Ness left the game, though before-hand we seemed to be getting plenty of pressure, but no sacks or negative yard plays.

I never felt we were safe in this one, and we won't be 'safe' until Love gets the experience. Is what it is, I don't think we can ask much more of him right now. Ridder is going to end up a decent QB too, so don't listen to his naysayers out there. They've got a very impressive and talented core of skill position players, no shame in losing this one.

Yeah it's a tricky one because you can't be squandering a 12 point lead going into the fourth, and we did that. However obviously missing 4 of our 5 best offensive players is pretty tough to deal with for any team. Still, the game was there to be won. AJ Dillon needs to be moved back in the depth chart immediately, terrible football player.

Yeah, just have to be very pragmatic about this season. We're going to lose games we shouldn't (and wouldn't have with #12), but we'll probably win some too. It's gonna be a ride whether we like it or not!

I feel like I've been one of Dillons bigger supporters, but I agree, there hasn't been the expected progression, especially over the past 12 months. He's got his trick, but when that isn't working for him, he's got nothing else. Needs to add a string to his bow, otherwise why is he on the roster.

Unfortunately I think Bakh is done, his knee is completely ruined. The best LT in the game but it doesn't mean much if he can't get on the park.

At least he flipped off the Bears at Soldier Field in what is probably his last game.

This thread has gone pretty quiet. Aptly named: frozen tundra

Do they have tumbleweed in Wisconsin?

vast-snow-covered-north-dakota-prairie-landscape-donald-erickson.jpg
They actually do have tumbleweeds in Wisconsin, in fact tumbleweeds are considered an invasive species in the US and are found in all states apart from Alaska and Florida.

TNF was disappointing but it's what we have come to expect I think. It's getting exhausting hearing the same shit over and over regarding not running the ball or our run defense being poor.

Mind you we were missing a lot of players, getting Jaire and Stokes back over the next few is huge. Plus Jones and Watson back to hopefully full health. Jenkins too.

Just boggles me that they choose some of the line combinations that they do, how can they have Newman on the field? It's crazy.

Also Love's statistical differences between 1st and 3rd qtrs are quite weird. Will be keen to see if that evens out a bit over the next month.

I wouldn't expect much from Stokes, coming off a significant injury and missed a lot of time plus he wasn't playing well before he got injured. Jaire, Jones, Watson and Jenkins getting back to full health will help and Musgrave has returned to practice as well.

Newman is not only a detriment to the line, he's not going to help Love long term. He needs to be benched for the remainder of the season.

I'm hoping that's just Love being overly pumped to start the game. He's only had 5 starts so far, if he's still doing this towards the end of the year then that's concerning. It's also up to Love and the coaching staff to get ahead of it.
