Green v Jones Jnr

Everyone needs to put the Green vs Mundine talk to rest. They fought and Mundine won, simple as that. Mundine is a stylistic nightmare for Green anyway. Super defensive and not gonna stand in front of Green as he knows Green has more power. Say what you want about Mundine but the bloke is smart.

There should be more talk of a Geale vs Mundine repeat as that was a far more entertaining and closer fight than Green vs Mundine.

so green faked the broken hand that caused him to only use 1 hand for alot of the mundine fight and didnt retire due to his back that is completely stuffed.

Australian world champion Danny Green has called on Anthony Mundine to stop fighting chumps and step up with the big boys of world boxing.
Green won the IBO cruiserweight title when he defeated Julio Cesar Dominguez in Mississippi earlier this month and will fight American superstar Roy Jones Jnr in November.
Mundine, meanwhile, is still busy frying his fish on the local scene and is currently eyeing off a middleweight rematch with Tasmanian Danny Geale.
Green said it was time his arch rival stepped out of his comfort zone.

"I'm not sure what his next fight is, I dare say it would be against someone that is going to be a relatively very safe option for him," Green said during a visit to Perth Glory training on Thursday.
"It's pretty much a pattern now."
Green was lured out of retirement earlier this year after he was promised a lucrative rematch with Mundine, who won the first fight between the pair in 2006.
But when it came to finalising a deal Mundine quickly went cold on the proposal, although Green's recent success on the world stage seems to have re-sparked Mundine's interest.

"If Greeny has still got that cruiserweight after Roy Jones, he knows where I'm at," Mundine told reporters in Sydney on Wednesday.
Green said he had little time nowadays to even think about Mundine.
"I'm fighting one of the best fighters of all time so Choco's definitely on the backburner as far as our fight goes," Green said.
"As far as what he achieved and what he's going to achieve and what he wants to achieve, he's just got to step up basically.
"He's got to stop fighting blokes that are a given and put himself out of his comfort zone.
"Until he does that he's not going to have the respect of the sporting community."
Green said negotiations to secure the Jones Jnr fight were proving tricky.
"It's never easy," he said.
"Boxing's got a lot of grey areas involved.
"Roy's not the easiest bloke to deal with because he sees this as basically a big opportunity financially but it's a risky fight as well so he's weighing up all his options.
"He's trying to make as much money as he can because if he potentially loses the fight, then his worth drops.
"It's always tough but he's done his part of the deal and I've done my part in the ring, now it's just a matter of finalising negotiations and tying up the loose ends and knuckling down."
Green said he was disappointed he couldn't bring the fight to his hometown of Perth, with the bout likely to take place in either Sydney or Melbourne.

Lets see if Mundine has the aggots to come up to Green's weight divison.

Well no, but Mundines killer defense caused that broken hand.

LMAO at stuffed back. looking good over the past year. His back required surgery and a 4 month rest for virtually full recovery. His back was and is fine, if it was stuffed he wouldnt be risking paralysia fighting again now would he

See, dog attitude. You lost Danny. You dont make the demands. Mundine does

You realise Danny wants Mundine to gain the same amount of muscle ill be doimg in a 20 month program in a 4 month period. Its a laughable request especially considering Mundine spent 10 years as a NRL player, a sport that requires a bit more from your body

These isnt much of an age difference between Green and Jones- you can't use that as an excuse.

Jones was in amazing form going into this bout, just look at him in the fight before talking shit to Green in the front row whilst dodging punches! I've never seen anything more awesome... until,

Tonight! Aussie boy DESTROYS one of the greatest boxers ever. Not just in points. Not a late round KO. A TKO in the FIRST ROUND!!!

It was surreal. And to all you idiots that wrote Green off; "you dont know shit!" And you dont really. If all you guys are such boxing experts why didnt you jump on Green at $64 first round win?

Roy Jones Jr made his debut fight in 1989. Danny Green's debut was in 2001. Jones has had double the amount of fights that Green has had. Not taking anything away from Green as it was an impressive win but there is a significant difference in the time spent as a proffesional fighter. Roy Jones has been fighting for 20 years whilst Green has fought for 8 years with a year off in between.

Jones was taken to school by Calzaghe and then had wins against Omar Sheika and Jeff Lacy both of whom were pretty much shot as fighters. Jones Jr convinced everyone that he was back to his best by beating on a human punching bag in Jeff Lacy who offerered little resistance.

I like Danny Green but Roy Jones should have retired after his losses to Johnson and Tarver because he hasn't been the same fighter since he won his heavyweight world title. Roy Jones is an old man that still attempts to fight like a young man. Tonight it showed.

See, dog attitude. You lost Danny. You dont make the demands. Mundine does

Mundine is w***er who wants to be a gangster, seeing him standing there with the roy jones crew with his hat nearly falling off his head, like he's some hard gangster, i seriously don't know how people can like this guy, he is a tosser of the highest order.

Because of the injuries you dill. Mundine begged for a rematch and Green retired. Green returned when Mundine hurt his eye and went up to a level he could avoid Mundine forever

Green is a sore loser and just a coward of a man
Explain why mundine dodged greens attempts for a fight at the peak of his career and instead waited till green started to lose a bit?

Support a fighter sure but just remember that excuses are excuses if they lose. As Angelo Hyder told young Adam Wills when he went bum up a couple of weeks back "it's boxing son not tennis". If a fighter is not fit to take on his opponent he should not take a fight. There have been countless instances of matches being called off because of injury. If Danny was not fit when he fought Mundine bad luck. He could of called it off.

As to them matching up again it seems very unlikely to me that it will happen for the very reason that weight is the issue. I for the life of me am unable to see Mundine being particularly effective next month against Medley at Junior Middleweight (though I expect him to win). But bear in mind that that is a fight at 69.9 kilos as opposed to Danny's weight tonight that is 20kgs heavier. Danny will not be able to drop back 10 kilos and be effective IMO. Mundine would not be able to add 20kg's and be effective against a Cruiserweight Danny. These blokes might talk trash but in truth they are not idiots.

On to Dannys fight.

Will be closer than most are expecting, but I think Jones should edge it. Prime for prime? Jones stoppage within 4 rounds. His workrate is terrible these days, but he still has a massive "class" advantage.

This was my take as well hellfire. I expected a Jones Points win. I have to admit that this was the most gobsmacked I have been watching a fight since Tyson got beaten by Douglas. No way did I expect Jones to go in a manner like that and I am still shocked. His speed in his last fight was effective and he did look to still have it in this fight initially with his snappy jab. Sure he has always been able to bring back a low left hand but I guess in the end a puncher could always have a chance and kudos to Danny for showing some strenght to get him into the corner. Temple punches are always a winner. Mundine will attest to that:)

Career over for Jones and who knows where to for Danny. A couple more money fights. Good for him.

Yeah Mundine beat Green, and he can have it. I'd love to see a rematch though.

Green was on a different level tonight, he put ROY JONES JR away in the FIRST ROUND!

If Mundine was fighting Jones, would you expect this to happen? I doubt it. Most people would still have their money on Jones.

It's great to see a fellow Sandgrouper taste success. And he gave everyone in Australia a shout out. If a guy from the East Coast won it, he would have thanked Melbourne and Sydney. Probably from the same strain as the un-Australian losers that support Mundine.

Think about this... Jones a clear favourite, goes down by TKO in the FIRST round??

embers that was pure bullshit calling green weak or what ever you called him the man goes out of his way to help different charitys he shows so much respect for everyone and if you got a problem with him your a total w***er aswell.

mundine can talk as much as he wants it wont get him respect from anyone if he is as good as he claims to be he'll fight out of australia, heck last fight agaisnt geale he shouldnt have won he copped a punch and claims he slipped.

onto the fight and the preview, mundine ran his mouth before the fight thinking green wouldnt win, anyone catch the look on his face? i think he is shitting himself.
hopkins and roy jones have already signed on apparntly also hopkins running your mouth saying green wont win eat your words you ********, he also said some bad stuff about australia danny green stood striaght up for the whole of australia.

the fight was one hell of 2 minutes and 2 seconds any aussie loves a good underdog winning, and the respect green showed RJJ after the fight shows you the type of man he is a true aussie.

If you look at the knockdown again Jones is swatting away Green's little jabs and you can see him almost relax a little and that's when Green pounces on him. It either shows Jones was not mentally prepared for the fight or he didn't respect Green as a fighter. Either way, he got what he deserved. He let his guard down and paid the price.

Jones Jr of ten years ago would not have taken the fight so lightly.

Very pleased with my decision to watch this at Burswood casino instead of shelling out on foxtel main event.

Very dissapointing result after the hype but congratulations to Green for winning in such a fashion.

I watched this at Burswood Casino too. It went right f...... off! There was a deafening roar!

I sat right next to the fight in the crowd. I was so close, my wife took a guys bourbon all over her jeans when it flew.

Jones of 10 years ago would of destroyed anyone.

awesome atmosphere btw Major props for Roy jones jnr's girls escorting him to the ring woweeeeeeeeeee.

How many has Danny fought. Look at his first 15 fights. I mean wow, how many bums do Sydney have that need a punch

Who retired when a rematch was at its closest point financial wise, Was it Danny or Mundine? Remind me

Danny Green retired before a scheduled mandatory defense of his WBA light-heavy weight title against Hugo Garay. A fight with Mundine at that time was not on the cards.

Green would've destroyed Garay. He wasn't running. Nor was he running from Mundine.
Danny originally came out of retirement to fight Choc. Then Choc was like, um um um.... Choc will wait till Danny is 40 odd, then push for a fight.
