I respectfully disagree. I've seen many Freo games over the past few years, and Greg has been one of your best players week after week. He had a downer year in 2012 - I didn't think he should've been traded on that basis.People on Bigfooty need to stop evaluating trades based on DT performances. Broughton played himself out of the defence and midfield this year and was lucky not to be dropped before injuring his finger. He is good at reading the play, but his kicking is average at best. He is not best 22 for Freo, but will be for the Suns (although with their inexperience, it is hard not to be). I like the deal for pick 37. He isn't worth more than that. Some Freo fans are deluded if they thought he was worth a first rounder or an upgrade on that. He just isn't anywhere near that level.
He was comfortably passed by a first year rookie in Spurr in the backline and then Pearce pushed him out of the midfield. I think you're being generous saying he was one of our best players week after week. People just seem to read the stats and not care about what he actually did.I respectfully disagree. i know that all to well must be the same joderwits who thought they would get clark for freeNo doubt this is unders for Broughton and a win for GC, but the circumstances do make sense. There was no way GC were going to give up pick 13, talk on the Freo board that Dockers might score that was just dream land stuff, their next pick was 37. Freo using pick 60 is highly unlikely (with the extra 2nd rounder just got), so from a Freo perspective that means little, though throwing it in is a bit strange.
Except for some deal involving the future banked picks that GC have, I can't see how it could have been much different. The only other factor, as people have said, is that there's a quasi three-way trade being setup, with pick 37 to be used with Roberton for example.
