Dogs also right in mix for 17yo Crouch, rated closely behind O'Meara. Ward compo pick and maybe something else on table

I guess we'll see who is right in a couple of days.

Would be rapt if we could get Crouch or O'Meara (more likely Crouch it seems) for one of our compo picks plus a sweetener (later pick, Warnock, Bate etc). Wouldn't want to give up two compo picks or our pick 12 and a compo pick let alone all 3. Those 3 picks could still turn into very decent players (Frawley, Gysberts, Grimes). If we can get both Crouch and Viney for 2013 it would seem like a massive win for the club. I don't know anything about Crouch or O'Meara for that katter but just going on what I've read it seems like Crouch might have a bit more mongrel about him. That being the case both he and Viney into the side would add some much needed grunt and allowing them both to train with the side next year would be invaluable from both a fitness as well as structural perspective.

Not sure if that would get it done but if we threw in Maric/Bate/Warnock or a combination of all three packaged with those picks and secure pick 1 & 2 in the mini-draft whilst retaining our normal pick set aside for jack viney it would mean we would get Viney, Crouch and O'Meara in 2013. WOWEE

That's a mouth watering proposition, but pretty unlikely...

I think if we could pick up Crouch (i.e. pick #2) for a single compo pick as is rumoured (above), we will have done very very well.

From my very limited internet 'research' Crouch would seem a good fit for us. Hard bodied mid with grunt who can win his own footy. One report said he had the 'exact build of Brock Mclean' except he has pace and a good outside game too. Perhaps those a little more informed than me could shed some light on this if they haven't already. Also getting the first two picks of the mini draft would seem unlikely given the interest from gold coast.

Seems it is between you guys and us for Crouch. We are the 2 clubs in the best position, anyway.

Rumour is we will be willing to give our Ward compo and pick 17, for Crouch and pick 25.

If you guys offer a compo pick and pick 12 (and Warnock possibly), im not sure what else we would offer.

Both look very quick and skillful, clean off the ground and great vision / decision making skills. If we could land either of these guys for one compo pick that would be the biggest steal in the world.

Cheers for the links, agreed if we land one I'll be stoked.

This article says we are well placed to land Crouch

Would love it to happen but wont believe it until the deal is done.

Us, Gold Coast, Western Bulldogs, Geelong and Adelaide are the main contenders to land a GWS mini draft pick and it looks like they are offering 3 of the 4 this year, what would you do if we could only get the 3rd pick.

A compo pick and pick 12 for Crouch and Ahmed Saad would interest me.

Or just a pick downgrade for 12.

No way in hell should GWS get to keep O'Meara!
I couldnt care if GC get the kid ahead of us, but for the AFL to tick
off a trade that would have GWS land him - would be a joke.

These compo picks, Id be holding onto them and luring some GC
lads back to Vic next year, McKenzie would be ideal.

We shouldnt pay overs for O'Meara or Couch.

I think that Crouch seems the better option. (a) he is not from WA and we can try and avoid the go-home factor, and (b) he will free up Jack Grimes to play in the midfield by playing that rebounding HB role. Jay Clark suggested that in the current draft, he would be in the Top 5. Imagine this team come 2013:

B: Garland, Frawley, Strauss/Nicholson
HB: Tapscott, Rivers/Davis, Crouch
C: Blease/Bail, Trengove, Grimes
FOLL: Gawn, Moloney, McKenzie/Gysberts
HF: Watts, Sylvia, Howe
F: Jurrah, Jamar/Cook, Petterd
I/C (FROM): Viney, Martin, Jones, Bartram, Wona, Jetta, Morton, Tom McDonald, Evans, Kelvin Lawrence, Fitzpatrick

Seems quite alright to me.... Is based on Green, Davey, Newton, Bate, Maric, Joel Mc, McNamara, Spencer, Johnston, Campbell, Warnock all being gone.

Also counts on Viney & Crouch being ready to go and doesn't include any mature-aged rookies or trades, as well as any other good to go draftees over the next two seasons... Looks very, very promising, and justifies tough decisions being made on some of those who I mention being gone...

I think Crouch is more of a midfielder, Grimes would be great in the midfeild eventually.... but I have a feeling that with Viney coming in we will be looking pretty good for inside mids... especially if we nab Crouch.

We should be looking at another good quality outside midfielder, which is why I think we should go 'huge-guns' for O'Meara.

Don't expect any favours from the GWS, they may have all these picks and players to trade but make no mistake they are the Oprah of the football world. Giving, but at a huge cost!!

We shouldnt trade away out future to deal with these scum! I wouldn't be giving them a leg up!!

While I love the idea of Grimes becoming a midfielder, I have this suspicion that he will live out his career as a sweeping half back. Not that its a bad thing, look at Corey Enrights career. Quality needs to be spread across the park. Tapscott and Grimes on the HBF with the ability to move into the mid if needed. Versatility is what is required. The more players who can play multiple positions, the better off we are.

Grimes needs to get on the park, not worrying about playing in the midfield, he's played 31 games in 5 seasons, he's not far behind Gumbleton.

Well if GWS end up keeping O'Meara, I doubt we would get Crouch. Also if they're allowed to do this, there's really nothing stopping them getting Crouch as well. They were not supposed to have access to these guys and that was written into the rules. It's blatantly exploiting the system and i doubt the AFL will make an effort to/want to stop it. Remember when we werent allowed third party deals for Scully? The afl was quick to block off any loopholes on our side of the bargain. I already hate this god forsaken franchise. It stinks. End rant.

The AFL can't allow this 4 club trade to occur. It was written in the rules of the mini-draft that GWS were not to acquire any of these 17 year olds.

Sounds like the MFC is about to get bent over again by a league that is hell-bent on winning these coca cola franchises a premiership.

Yeah but who ever deals with GWS in sending them back that pick in the mini draft might get a little reward in this years draft or a senior player or 2... its all too bloody complicated to me but look as if our sights are set on this Crouch kid, as well as the rumour that we are into Jordan Lisle from the hawks.

Now that it's been raised, the AFL will try to ensure (barely) plausable deniability and then let it go through.

I know this isn't the point, but it's not like any of us are massively into Melbourne Storm, is it? Having a hugely successful franchise named and operated out of a place doesn't mean there's going to be an automatic embracing of the sport. It's such an idiotic strategy to piss off everyone who follows football to try to please people that aren't going to be interested.
