For all the "GWS are flying" rhetoric.

I watched them vs the Bravedogs.
They were gone for all money.
That match could have gone either way.

You need to remove Sam Taylor's influence. Even the ruck and tie toby to a goal post.

Yeah, but even the Crows lost to the Giants at home, and they even practice tying people up during the pre season.

Hickey and Francis in. Stephens sub. If Hickey is cooked or getting smashed in the ruck then it's an easy sub for Stephens.

I'd roll the dice with Hickey this week after his positive vfl performance. His potentially good performance will make a bigger impact in us winning compared to a Buller imo.

Francis is needed to match gws talls.
I've seen enough of Hickey when it mattered.
He has lost any competitiveness.
It happens so it's the end. Shouldn't be anywhere near senior football again.
Stick with the ruck combo we have & just replace the positions that are out.
Buller in for mine.
Roberts can cover for McInerney.
Francis in for Rampe.

Hickey looked 10 years younger in the reserves.
He plays this week …

Shame for McInerney, he's been in good touch.

I would do:

IN: Hickey, Francis, Stephens
OUT: Franklin, Rampe, McInerney

Nothing fancy, but known quantities in for our biggest game of the year.

Lining up, with match ups
Defenders: McCartin (Brown), Francis (Riccardi), Blakey (Cadman), Fox (Greene), Florent (Bedford), Lloyd (Lloyd), Cunningham (Daniels)

Midfielders: Mills, Warner, Gulden, Rowbottom, Parker, Campbell, Stephens v Coniglio, Kelly, Callaghan, Perryman, Ward, Ash, Angwin

Ruck: Hickey v Briggs

Forwards: McLean (Buckley), Amartey (Keefe), McDonald (Taylor), Heeney (Idun), Hayward (Himmelberg), Papley (Cumming), Wicks (Whitfield)

Likely, but gee we get slower too.

Arnold and Warner/Stephens in would be a very different dynamic. Parker could play more forward minutes.

Is there evidence that it's Stephens putting off contract talks?

In any case, if the club thinks he would otherwise come in, you bring him in. Show him there's reward for effort.

If they think Roberts or Warner, and then a reshuffle is better, you just do that.

Stephens spent more time around half back last year than Warner has, so role-related he's the go to.
I saw an article the other day that stated swans had put a contract to Stephens early in the season and that he put contract talks on hold until the end of the season. But I couldn't find the article so it's possible that it may have been an article from 2021. Not really sure now.

With that said, jmacs injury opens the door for him. Whether the club goes Warner or Stephens who knows. Hopefully Stephens does get a chance and takes the opportunity. Whoever gets the role has an opportunity to clinch a best 22 spot for the rest of the year. Anything could happen with injury from here.

Keeffe will be up forward, not down back. I'd be sticking Francis on him. Then you'll have to have TMac on Riccardi, Fox on Cadman. Not sure why we'd force Blakey to lock down, especially with JMac out.

3 players all twang a calf after playing on the green concrete at Optus.

Coincidence?

Here’s hoping our WA game(s) get shifted to gather round next year - even though it’d deny me a chance to watch a game live.

Who you playing on Greene? If Keeffe, Callum Brown, Cadman and Riccardi are all forward, Blakey would have to lock down.

Based purely on Fox being needed elsewhere, you'd have to have Cunners or Mills on Greene. Brown is 188cm, no giant (in the size sense), so if they played all 4 up forward at once for some reason, you'd have to turn to Florent or Mills to lock down.

Saddling Blakey with KPD duties (what I was responding to) is a bad idea, especially with JMac out. We need some run and creativity out of the back half.

E.g.

Francis - Keeffe
TMac - Riccardi
Fox - Cadman
Greene - Cunners/Mills
Brown - Florent/Mills (or just Blakey loosely)
Leave 1 or 2 of Blakey, Lloyd, Florent, Campbell to rebound or we get stifled.

Mills has been at 3 and 12% of centre bounces in the last 2 weeks. Gulden and Warner (about 50%) could make way for an extra mid. But then Gulden (and Rowy) were the 2 main clearance winners.
Mills is playing sore and will probs be headed for an operation on that hand once its confirmed we won't make finals I reckon.

Yeah any chance we had making the 8 went out the window with 3 calf injuries to key players.

GWS by 27 points

Swans to win 1 of their last 4
I think we are in strife without the leadership of Rampe down back. He has been calming for the rest of the defence back there. Especially for TMac.
We’ll drop most of these games now.
10 wins for the season after the bad patch is probably about where we deserve to be.
Should we somehow win 3 games, we should sneak in but we won’t go far.

Ins: Stephens Hickey Francis
Outs: Jmc Buddy ☹️ Rampe
Sub: Roberts

Stephens has been going OK in VFL although his disposal and decision making is still not quite there. However, he's been finding the ball and working hard on the defensive side of the contest. Perhaps he could attend a few CBs and stoppages.

Hickey was moving the best he has since last year and looked up and about.

Francis is strong in the air and is a bigger body in defence. But so slow. He makes Mclean look lime Usain Bolt. I wouldn't be adverse to Arnold but I think it's unlikely we debut him at this time of year.

Without our best ‘checker’ playing , every likelihood Greene will demolish us.

Can only hope Fox has a good game.
