Traded Gysberts to North for Pedersen and Draft Pick

Louis mate, you're obviously desperate to believe it and convince yourself and everyone else, so here it is:

Dees won the Pederson-Gysberts trade.

Feel better now?

I know it's caused me some sleepless nights.

So because I take a contrary position to you, I'm desperate?

Just look at their last season, make a call on who played better. It's clearly Pederson.

No, you might find that one of the first posts in this thread was me calling it a win-win.

The desperation is a description of your posts over the last couple of pages.

No big deal, we've obvioulsy both had sleepless nights over this serious matter. :thumbsu:

Its win-win I agree. North get a midfield prospect who has genuine potential. He is a long way off and will need work, but North have a list with enough depth that they can afford to have a project player on it for a year or two. he was miles behind it at Melbourne, and with the addition of Viney, his chances are incredibly low of playing senior footy at Melbourne.

Melbourne get the ruck/forward we need to work with Dawes and Clark. Our tall forward stocks are pretty much set for 4 or 5 years now. Martin couldn't play this role properly, Pederson has shown he can. Pedo is pretty much a known quantity, something the Demons are placing very high value on at the moment.

2 games is clearly more than 1.

Lindsay Thomas was clearly better than Mitch Clark in 2012. 38 goals is more than 29.

Your fact. Nothing more.

There's no such thing as an individuals fact. There is statistical evidence showing that Gysberts has been a very poor kick. There's also measurable ways of saying Pederson is a better player right now (won BnF, showed more at AFL level).

The kids DE% was up around 80-90% in 2011 in games where he predominately used the ball by hand.

He averaged 1.8 clangers over 15 matches in 2011 when the competition average was 2.1 per player that season.

Q: Do you know where 1.8 clangers a game would have placed him in the Melbourne 2012 side?
A: 11th

He's physically immature.

He has fantastic hands, some of the best I've seen. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a dolt.

Its his kicking that sucks.

Pederson IS a better player right now.

So is Orren Stephenson.

So is John Baird.

So are thousands of other players.

North like to flick the ball around a lot. I can see why Scott went after him.

If he can win a lot of the pill, give it to his team mates, and do that for the next decade, then I will be very happy with the trade.

You got yourselves a solid player that is ready to go tomorrow.

Funny how pick 10 and 11 in the 2009 draft turned out the same.

At least the Dees had the guts to cut their losses.

Ess fans expect more of Melksham & are critical when he bludges through a game.
Norf fans see Cunnington (1st half of the yr), Bastinac (2nd half of the yr) & Ziebell (1/2 dozen serviceable games all yr) coast along doing nothing & yet they're considered future A graders.
Jizzspurt will be a very important cog in your AA midfield without a doubt
Melkshams got just as good a chance of being as good as any of them.

The average North fan is a far better judge of footballers than the average essedon fan.

Melksham is tracking the correct curve to be a good half forward.

Cunnington and Ziebell will be elite inside midfielders.

Was last years form and kicking efficiency a fluke? Or was this year just a really bad year?

Looking @ the guns &/or top 10 mids in his draft Gysberts kicking numbers and contributing stats compares rather well. His tacking numbers aren't to bad either.

How good is 'good'?

Seviceable good? Top 10 BnF good? Crazy good?

And why are you so sure?
Top 100 or so players in the league - regular top 10 BnF's.

Have seen him play many times in both the seniors and VFL. I don't think his kicking is as bad as some are making it out to be, his hands in traffic are very good and he is a surprisingly good extractor of the footy. Once he develops his tank he will be right in the North midfield for sure.

LOL norfs desperation to be relevant clouds your whole supporter groups judgement almost as badly as Tigers fans

Wow what a surprise

Gysberts is going to be a good football payer. His issue is his disposal and his defensive game. He's a good front runner, once he builds a tank that should turn around.

Pedo is a middle of the road fringe footballer. He is warming a seat for Hogan.

Agree with Andy macs post but note the following points: when your fitness is crap your disposal drops off due to fatigue. The same can be said for defensive application. In all the posts and footage seen guys berets can win the ball. And spread when we have the footy.

Think you will be surprised with pedersen with his tank you have a tall midfielder if played in the ruck might find him to be a good foil for clark also

I'm actually excited about Pederson, for the strangest reason.

After paying attention to him for like a week, I feel like we're getting a known quantity. A guy who can pinch hit in the ruck, run all day, has good skills, and could be a decent third tall up forward. Basically everything we wanted Stefan Martin to be.

For a MFC fan, the idea of getting a guy who just performs (even if its not at an elite level) is something of a novelty. We are so used to the schizophrenic performance of our team, that the idea of consistency is just hard to contemplate. Even if Pederson is a good VFL player, and an average AFL player, I'm actually really excited about that. We haven't had many players like that in the last half decade.

Having only seen Pederson a few times, I think he can play ok. Would he be able to play as a midfielder (not ruck) using his body to protect the kids as they develop, while extracting the ball himself. What's his pace like? He does seem to have a reasonable engine which Misson will improve.

Gysberts is making the right noises, but has been a lazy trainer. He does know how to extract the ball from a pack and is smart at forward line stoppages - kicks them himself or creates a scoring opportunity (at VFL level)
