Disgruntled Collingwood premiership player Heritier Lumumba gave permission for Scott Pendlebury to call him ‘Chimp’.

Foxfooty.com.au can reveal Pendlebury was instructed by Lumumba that it was OK to refer to him using a nickname which he has since come out and admonished.

It is unclear whether Lumumba may have allowed Pendlebury - and potentially other teammates – to use the nickname in a bid to fit in and cope with what he now says was a culture festered with discrimination.

The club’s current investigation into the matter is expected to uncover the precise nature of why Lumumba volunteered for teammates to refer to him as ‘Chimp’ and how widely it was used as his nickname across an eight-year stretch.

Lumumba and Pendlebury were not available for comment.

This post is spot on. There have been many indigenous players over the years who have been not only accepted but loved by the football community. The players mentioned above are examples of the quality we've seen, and I cannot recall anyone booing or shouting racist obscenities to those players. It only seems to take one idiot in the crowd to hurl a racist remark, and suddenly there's massive problem with racism in football? I don't believe there is, or at least anywhere near the degree some people may have us believe.

It's easy to point at one idiot in the crowd and paint everyone with the same brush.

Well this article here.. he says Collingwood supported him through is problems. So it is interesting that he is now saying they didn't support him. Did he lie back in 2013? or is he lying now? Because it can't be both options.

I get why you might not like him and him speaking out is a massive distraction at your club, but aren't you a little worried that any of it might be true?

No. Distraction Not just for our club, the AFL. The AFL is racist according to the artist. I hope he finds a job in la and can move on with his life and forget about his trauma of Mohammed Ali, Barack Obama , and some random dead guy he saw in Brazil

Not sure it was proven he allowed Chimp but very strange he comes up with worse things never mentioned before when he seems to want more attention. Bit of a pattern with Harry.

I don't think there is any doubt that any of it "might be true".

There is a world of doubt that Lumumba's time at Collingwood was anything like he has characterised it.

Several players have mentioned the nickname chimp was used and stopped as soon as he raised it (which took 8 years most of which was under Malthouse)
