Where are the threads/post that are anti Betts or Wingard?
Way to miss the point completely mate.

The point is that racist attitudes are rife in the AFL.
Absolutely rife amongst fans.
Betts is still a victim of it even now.

The issue is not what you think about Harry's personality. This is a massive cop out and deflection.

The issue is what he saying is TRUE .

Crapping on about his personality is a massive cop out and a way to dodge the issue because it makes racist Australia uncomfortable and defensive. And for some people the best form of defense is attack. So they attack Harry for telling the truth.

Not missing the point at all. Did you read what I quoted? You posted it after all.

Where are people arguing that racism doesn't exist in the AFL, or society in general? Massive straw man.

Eddie Betts was on AFL 360 the other night.

Eddie Betts has delivered a powerful message on the impact of racism during an appearance on Tuesday’s AFL 360.

Last week, Betts took to Instagram to call out a racist tweet that referenced him and included a photo of a monkey.

Betts was met with overwhelming support by the AFL community, but spoke about how taxing the frequent attacks have become.

So Betts receives overwhelming support and H doesn't. Why is that?

So your logic is because Betts receives overwhelming support and Heritier didn't, one is a 'good bloke' the other is uppity and should just ignore the racism?

FFS seriously how about we ask Eddie Betts and Heritier what they believe - try and act on their recommendations and pull our heads in.

My logic is that people are going to say things like:

Let me guess.

Betts also an attention seeker with a personality disorder?
Wingard as well?

I mean wake up idiots and stop trying to discredit the messenger.

Then maybe they should think it through.

There are countless examples of racism in the AFL and sport/society in general. Where is there 41 pages about H on the main board and currently nothing about anyone else?

Most of the posters from Collingwood supporters......................why is that?

Well this article here.. he says Collingwood supported him through is problems. So it is interesting that he is now saying they didn't support him. Did he lie back in 2013? or is he lying now? Because it can't be both options.

You were upset Collingwood supporters were responding to a thread about Collingwood. Who is touchy??

Nope not upset that Collingwood supporters were responding to a thread about Collingwood - just making a point to someone who was saying this has 40 pages on Heritier, context.

So does this mean associating any sports person with a monkey is wrong and racist? Or is it ok when their last name is a type of monkey? Really hard to know where the line is!

Can you explain please your definition of rife? Is it every second fan, 1 in 10, 1 in 1000, 1 in 10,000?

For me, AFL is probably the least racist element of Australian society. What other aspect of elite performance/high achievers has such an over representation as AFL has. Aprox 2% of the population make up about 15% of participants in a high performance environment.

Shaun Burgoyne would have to be about the most universally respected player in the game. Every Essendon supporter I know adores Tippa, Richmond fans fawned over Sydney Stack last year, Buddy Franklin is generally regarded as the best player of the last decade, and you know what, none of this adulation has anything to do with the color of their skin.

Don't conflate online/on ground abuse by d.ckheads (btw all players receive constant abuse from opposition supporters, ask Stephen Milne about the abuse he copped during his career) and this is normally based primarily on 2 factors. 1. they play for other team and 2. they are good players. Cowardly people who indulge in this abuse are mostly trying to find an angle that they feel will get to the player, IMO, and the bigger problem is this online abuse from people who feel anonymity, and that this somehow gives them the right to denigrate people online ( see the amount of online bullying of young kids.)

AFL legend Adam Goodes has opened up on the “toxic” environment that forced him into retirement after he took a public stand against racism, and taken a subtle swipe at the Australian government for its work with Indigenous Australians.

Did it force him to retire? I though the booing saga was 2013 and he retired in 2015?

Adam Goodes was cooked as a footballer in 2015, as great a player as he was. Maybe he could have played on but he would have been a 36 year old role player at best.

Hard to tell really. His last few games for the Swans indicated he might, might have been able to go on another year. It was a very fine line though.

Awesome player in his day but he was finished before he retired...he became a giant whiner at the end of his career

This post is spot on. There have been many indigenous players over the years who have been not only accepted but loved by the football community. The players mentioned above are examples of the quality we've seen, and I cannot recall anyone booing or shouting racist obscenities to those players. It only seems to take one idiot in the crowd to hurl a racist remark, and suddenly there's massive problem with racism in football? I don't believe there is, or at least anywhere near the degree some people may have us believe.

Heritier Lumumba gave Scott Pendlebury permission over nickname at centre of racism claims

August 11, 2020

Disgruntled Collingwood premiership player Heritier Lumumba gave permission for Scott Pendlebury to call him ‘Chimp’.

Foxfooty.com.au can reveal Pendlebury was instructed by Lumumba that it was OK to refer to him using a nickname which he has since come out and admonished.

It is unclear whether Lumumba may have allowed Pendlebury - and potentially other teammates – to use the nickname in a bid to fit in and cope with what he now says was a culture festered with discrimination.

The club’s current investigation into the matter is expected to uncover the precise nature of why Lumumba volunteered for teammates to refer to him as ‘Chimp’ and how widely it was used as his nickname across an eight-year stretch.

Lumumba and Pendlebury were not available for comment.
