Like it or not he is dead duck. Gehring and Didak (got 2) for doing the same thing. The others got off b/c they were either being wrestled to the ground or "tapped" lightly.
Looking at Mcquire's reaction it was obvious that it hurt him (freed up one man to kick a goal). Mcquire soft? yes. acting? no. Hall lost his brain for the second and he needs to pay the price. Rocca got rolled in 2002, just b/c you are high profile doesnt mean you escape penalty.

How wrong you were. I agree that Macguire wasn't acting, but the fact was that with Gehrig's, the ball had crossed the boundary line, his eyes were on Cloke the whole time and he even gritted his teeth before hitting him. Hall, as the rule states, was preparing to be part of the next passage of play (making the lead and then running back to the square), and at no time did he take his eyes off the area where the ball was.
