Can someone explain to me the new interpretation of the term "hustling". I've used it previously in other contexts and it's not particularly positive. I'm sure the new definition is more positive....

update : I found it under urban dictionary. I love how we renew sexy sounding words....

There I think he means ‘upping the ante’.

In modern parlance a ‘side hustle’ is grifting, illicit dealing.

The more I look at the draft selections, the more I think we may have landed the best mid outside of the top 8 - 10. Maybe 14, if you include Rogers. Think Harry was a steal, and if he keeps developing, could be an absolute godsend at pick 25.

Either way, love the attitude, tenacity, pace and leadership traits. Has everything to be a 200+ game player

Hope so, unfortunately our drafting history suggest that won't be the case.

well i dont think he was running a side hustle, although who knows. He was hustling in the preseason workouts, evidently. I suppose that the main thing is that it sounds sexy. Whatever a "gun" player is doing, it has to be sexy...

There's so much hype about this kid, it's a wonder that he didnt go in the top 5 of the draft.

Ah come on Beeg my man, if ever a guy is going to make it, it’s this guy!

He’s an absolute natural talent, is motivated like hell, oozes enthusiasm and leadership, both in crazy abundant quantities.

You can lock it in mate, he’s gonna be a star and a leader of our club!!

Maybe you’re just going the reverse moz? 🙂

Apart from Nick, never been so sure 👍

Big call on him mate although I'm hoping the same as you.

The meaning you're implying was always a secondary meaning of "hustling" - it's primary meaning has always been:

verb (used without object),hus·tled, hus·tling.
  1. to proceed or work rapidly or energetically:The sisters hustled about, putting the house in order.
To grift or to prostitute are secondary, informal meanings.

well done on the research vinnie and i accept that i am thinking of an american use of the word. However, from what I read from oxforrd dictionaries hustling usually means someone pushing another to get moving....to push to jostle. I cant see how harry can hustle himself.

Having said that, it seems that an american dictionary, Collins, gives an american interpretation and provides the example you give.

So it probably means that I havent picked up the new sexy american interpretation. I'm a little bit old school although I have never been slave to a british view of the world. There is no doubt that we have moved to being slaves of the americans in most things including foreign policy so I need to yield.

I would not go as far saying he is a Star for Certain but at least should be Best 22

Everybody is talking up their own draftees. I’m sure bombers fans think Caddy is a top 5 pick, and crows fans think they stole the draft etc etc..
Harry has a lot of solid attributes, but he was also skipped 25+ times by other recruiters, and has never proven his midfield credentials over 4 quarters before. I’m still surprised he slipped through to us though, and am glad he did. First and foremost you wanna like your draftees as people, as well as seeing plenty of upside in them. And Harry ticks both of these boxes for me. Ditto TJ…

Not having a top 10 pick to go alongside them is a shame, but we seem to have two solid citizens and players from the 2023 crop, with the hope that next year’s trading period brings a prized recruit to bolster our KP stocks…

It is very American. Used a heap in basketball. Basically means working your arse off - usually defensively, but if Mihocek was a basketballer it's the word that would be used ad nauseum by commentators to describe his play.

Hustle has being used in baseball terms for 100 years.
I grew up with hustle meaning “move you’re ass and show energy” far beyond the “new age” view of stitching someone up.

So your “new sexy American” comments are just rubbish.

very balanced assessment....and he has some maturity about him so I find him to be more tolerable than the usual male teen....

well i went to a baseball game in the US about 40 years ago and I didnt hear the term. But I do love anything american. I follow it slavishly and will only use american type nouveau words to impress people. I think there's a lot of us using the same tactic

As I said, I'm slavishly following all american trends at this point in time, especially their word usage and their foreign policy. I think that I share their dislike for small children too...

I agree. I think we picked 2 guys that have a relatively high chance of becoming solid dependable role players, rather than go for all-or-nothing picks. I think thats a good approach with picks between 15 - 40.
