There's nothing wrong with getting to know footballers on a more personal level beyond football. But if they turn out to be self indulgent w***ers then people will react and call them on it.

Remember the 'smug' episode of south park? I'm not saying Harry is smug yet but he is heading down the path some hollywood stars travel and it ends in smugism. Atm he's idealistic, naive and thinking big. I dare say the accolades he pines for are driven by a hefty ego. Harry should heed his own advice and embark on his charitable adventures with love, rather than ego. He might be able to do some good in the world.

Lol... Jesus Christ! I do understand what you're saying... and yes at times he has gone a little far with the "Jesus Christ" image... but at least he's trying to do good with it - and for that I give him kudo's.

I's a little more refreshing in the press than the blatant self promotions the Jacksons did when self promoting their record lables the day of Michaels funeral! There's blatant self promotion... and then theres self promotion, that helps take the person to where they want to be to actually make a difference.

I CBF reading through 18 pages of people bagging Harry about talking about himself when in the actual paper it says.....

"O'Brien, 23, was unavailable to the Herald Sun this week."

How is it Harry's fault the HS reported this and put him on the front page, the guy declined to comment.

He wanted this kept in house and it was the fat man that let it out.

Somebody has probably already brought it up, but he posted it on his website; I don't think the interwebs are 'inhouse.'

His problem is he appears to do good things primarily for self-promotion and publicity - while a lot of other people (including a lot of AFL footballers) do more than he does, yet do it without seeking fanfare or accolades.

What does he actually do to make a difference? What charity work does he do? Plenty of footballers do good things but don't feel the need to carry on like they are so much better because of it.
I know he went to Brazil & Congo so he talks about how much of a hole both places are but all he did there was go to where his parents are from. It was all about him as far as I could see, getting back to his roots & what he saw affected him. I might be being harsh but going to places & saying how bad they are isn't really doing much about the problems of the world.
What annoyed me in his letter wishing to meet the Prez was the line about the 'millions of women being abused' in Australia. I don't want to make light of a serious issue but that is an exageration if ever I've heard one, a bit of an insult to the country I live in also. The 'cries of children' was a bit much also.
Probably most important to him at the moment would be getting a kick or at least stopping his man getting them because someone will make way when Presti's ready to come back into the team. No more Harrys World if he's running around in the magoos.

I don't see the big deal about Harry sharing his opinions, ideas etc. Quite frankly with all this crap about footballers being role models, using their positions in public for good, here is one guy doing no harm, yet he is bagged for it.
