shuey and martin are miles ahead of the other two. both are clearly top echelon players, and usually with out and out GUN mids, you can see their quality from the get-go.

i'd be surprised if hartlett and ziebell ever close the gap.

I think Martin and Hartlett both have the tools to be elite players. Shuey isn't as gifted as the two but he has made the most of what he's got and on his current trajectory, he is the safest bet to be a top 20 player in the AFL. To me, I can't see Ziebell in the same category as the other 3. I think Sidebottom would have been a better choice, he doesn't have the skill-set to compare.

Martin is a super athlete. At the combine, he got 2.80 seconds in the 20m, which was faster than Jetta, his explosive pace is in the best of the AFL. His power and brute strength is also on another level. His ability to go forward and kick goals and even kick a bag of goals as a midfielder is what makes him such a special player. If he gets it all together, he really could be anything.

Hartlett just possesses the same class and skill as you would find in a player like Pendlebury. Port need to get him out of the back line and into the middle as soon as possible because he is also a really special player.

I could see Shuey being the Matthew Boyd of the competition. An elite midfielder who consistently performs. I think Shuey has a better skill-set though.

Hartlett needs to overcome his family history and not lose his career to injury. Also appears lazy at times.

Martin needs to improve his fitness so he can impact games in the 2nd half. Also needs to stay out of prison.

Ziebell needs to get fitter and stay injury free. He was the most rotated player in the comp in 2012.

Shuey's the safest bet of the 4 and has had the best career to date.

Watch Martin win over the doubters in 2013!

In all fairness, all are great young players - hard to say who will be the best once they are all finished.

Shuey. He is going to be insanely good. I get a fed up with his constant whining and the way he plays for free kicks, but he's an absolute gem for the WCE.

Surprised for the lack of love for Ziebell. ;)
If he gets his fitness up, I have no doubt he could be the best of the four.

Currently though, the frontrunner of these is Martin. Shuey and Harrlett are nowhere near him.

id go shuey martin hartlett and jay z. however jack has the potential to become one of the toughest mids in the game, and if he improves his tank he may start to play like his captain. a big call since i rate spitta as one of the elite. the elimination final showed us how good he was, just hoping he can do it more

I agree that Hartlett can look lazy at times. To me, he needs to flick a switch and become a real gut runner to become a top line player (and be healthy of course). Great skills, great poise.

Would probably choose Martin right now.

I'd go for Shuey or Martin on quality output so far, but a injury free Hartlett has the most talent, flare and potential. So assuming this, I'll go Hartlett.

There wouldn't be much people in the whole league with more talent than Martin. Hartlett does not have more talent than Martin.

Ziebell looks fitter this year than last. His match high 5 clearances and 72% disposal effiecny highlighted his kicking skills when he gets time and space, but also that he can be dominate in the centre square.

Cunnington also looks fitter for what it's worth. Along with swallow and wells you would think centre clearances could be a weapon for north.

I think they're all really good players for different reasons. Of course as a port supporter I watch Hartlett closely. His two biggest assets are he is an incredible kick and he has a phenomenal side step to get him out of traffic. But so far we have only seen small glimpses of this I really hope we begin to see his true potential this year. The other factor is that he has played in a very average side since being recruited, much harder for him to perform.

If i was drafting and I could choose any of them I would probably take Shuey. He's the biggest lock to be a top quality midfielder, doesn't really have any weaknesses and is great at winning the ball, has great pace and uses the ball really well. Hartlett is really high potential but very injury prone, you never really know how these type of players are going to go. I've got a feeling he could be the best of the lot but he's a bit of a risk. Martin is a powerful unit and has very nice length on his kick but his actual kicking isn't that great in terms of accuracy (in some games last year it was attrocious). That's the reason Martin's supercoach rating dropped so much last year despite having essentially the same possession stats. Ziebell is good but he has much less x factor than the other 3 and its hard to see why you would go him over them.

I'd go: Shuey, Hartlett, Martin, Ziebell in that order. Any of Shuey/Hartlett/Martin could be the best though, but yeah Shuey is a sure bet compared to the other 2.
