has AA become a joke

Even with his goal assist he is behind LeCras and Porpolyzia in total scoreboard input (i.e scores plus assists). The additional possessions is indicative of the time in the midfield which is probably why he is on a flank rather than the pocket. I've no problem with Chappy being in there on a flank but think LeCras should have got the pocket.

Reminds me of Farmer being robbed of the forward pocket spot by Didak (54 goals to 20-something) in 2006, I think, but hey, give us something to argue about.
soooooo, when are you guys gonna draft a second forward?

Not alot of thought in that team.

Mitch Clarke robbed.

Mark LeCras/Jason Porplyzia robbed.

Sam Gilbert robbed.

I would have Sam Gilbert any day of the week over Nick Dal Santo, Gilbert is alot more important to the Saints structure and has had a better year.

No second ruckman is a joke.

The best two small fowards dont get a gig.

So why get rid of Chapman, who plays a majority of the game in the forward line, unlike Dane Swan who hardly plays in the forward line.
Because robert walls was worried about his love child struggling to find a spot in the AA team so he thought "oh, put swan in the forward line then juddy will keep his spot for another year...."

u actually are an idiot didak kicked 45 goals that year not 20 something AND he led the afl in goal assists.

We've got a couple now. Ballantyne in the pocket and Mayne on the flank - not AA yet, but let's wait and see. So long as Davis isn't still playing Balla could be a chance in a few years ;)

Hopefully one of the best CHFs in the comp can get back there next year instead of supporting a seriously underwhelming midfield :(

Its based on a year, this year infact. 2009. hence, 2009 All Australian.

If you are rating a midfielder/half forward player in Chapman as better than Lecras as a forward vying for a FORWARD position for THIS YEARS TEAM.... then you really are biased.

Chapman deserves his spot on the flank in this years team. Theres no doubt about that.

Lecras deserves to be in the pocket where Davis is. Davis has had a good year, but he hasnt been a forward pocket for a long time.

Still, its been this way for a while. Robertson kicked 73 goals in 05 and couldnt get in the side. It seems genuine small forwards are the area they either overlook or dont care much for.

Pity.

Firstly Chapmans played 18 games (1 of them a final)
Secondly, your working in totals arnt you?
How about averages...

Chapman: 18 games, 26.9 avg disposals, 6.6 marks, 1.6 goals, 0.9 goal assists.

Lecras: 21 games, 13.9 avg disposals, 4.1 marks, 2.8 goals, 0.7 goal assists.

Porplyzia: 24 games, 14.3 avg disposals, 3.7 marks, 2.4 goals, 0.6 goal assists.

Davis: 22 games, 20.8 avg disposals, 4.9 marks, 1.6 goals, 0.6 goal assists.

So we can see from this that Chapman averages same goals as Davis and more goal assists from the two permanent small forwards. Also he gathers more touches and marks but you guys wouldn't look at that now would you?
I actually had an original post with the full disposals, sadly I pressed freshed and lost them, so I cut to the chase.

It's all well and good, but you have to remember the position that they've been named in. Davis in the forward pocket, Chapman on the flank.
So, it's all well and good to have all those extra disposals, but as a forward pocket they don't mean a whole lot. Goals and goal assists are the big ones.

You do realise that they play different positions? And that as a HFF that moves into the midfield Chapman is pretty much the best. That's what his position in the team was. Swan... not sure why he's there... he is a genuine midfielder so yeah...
Maybe when he's on song, but both LeCras and Porplyzia had better seasons than the Chap-man IMO, though, as EM87 said, he's long overdue for AA so maybe it balances out somewhat.

Davis though.. aside from a few speccy goals, how did he even make the 40 man squad?
Swan in the forward line is a joke also. Did he deserve a spot? Quite probably. In the forward line? Not a chance.
Once again, the selectors have butchered it.

ah yeah heard their alright, to young atm, will take atleast a couple years to develop.

And another point.....I really dont see the point in splitting the squad into groups when you have players like Dane Swan named as a forward? I mean honestly. Hes had an extraordinary year, one of the Brownlow favourites and 100% deserves to be in the AA team....but how much time would he have spent up forward this year? He spends more time behind the ball than resting in the forward line.

Completely defeats the purpose of splitting the squad up.

Where the hell was mitch clark? he was clearly the best ruckman this year.

Not a chance that was going anywhere but Sandi. Clark might have been stiff not to get in but he wasn't the best ruckman. Some stats that somebody on the Freo board dug up give a bit of additional context. This is for the whole League not just Fremantle;

Ranked 9th in Total Clearances (Ahead of players like Hayes, J.Selwood, Watson, Priddis, G.Ablett)
Ranked 3rd in 1st Possesions per game. (Only Judd and M.Boyd ahead of him)
Ranked 5th in Total 1st Possesions (Only Judd, Boyd, Black, Kirk ahead)
Ranked 5th in Total Cont. Possesions (Kirk, J.Selwood, Cassisi, Swallow ahead)
Ranked 4th in Clearances per game. (Judd, Dal Santo and Boyd ahead)

I'm sure all the flogs on here who are critisicing the selections of certain players and the Brownlow credibility would love to be in the players positions. They are all stars and well deserving, some are stiff every year to miss out, but that's what happens when we have so many magnificent players. Bloody hell!
