has AA become a joke

All in all it was a pretty good team. I even understand Swan's selection on the half forward line -he was the best goalkicker among the midfield "automatic selections". The only way to get the very best six or so players in the game in the starting 18 was to pick one of them on the hff.

LeCras clearly was the most unlucky while Goodwin was the luckiest.

My ins and outs would be

Defence In Goddard Out Goodwin
Forward In Le Cras Out Davis
Bench In Davis Out Goddard

One ruck was understandable this year in a season when the one ruck policy has started to become fashionable. There were no real standouts although Mitch Clark would have clearly been on the shortlist.

I also would have preferred to see Bolton out with Lake at CHB, Presti at FB and Scarlett in the back pocket. But that was clearly line-ball and I understand why Presti was overlooked.

Maxwell was a pleasant surprise for Pies fans, many of us who were not sure even at the start of the year whether he was even in our best 22. Just goes to show sometimes the club knows more than the fans!!!

Fully fit Dean Cox > Aaron Sandilands.

Thing is, Cox nor Chapman were fit and neither deserved AA honours this year.

Of couse Chapman deserved his spot. Davis didn't as a forward pocket, but Chapman did across half forward, because unlike another half forward, he kicked more than a goal a game.

Le Cras deserves a gig, but Porplyzia doesn't over Chapman.

No.. Just.. no.

Chapman: 19 games, 29 goals 15 behinds
Porplyzia: 24 games, 57 goals 20 behinds
LeCras: 21 games, 58 goals 26 behinds.

Oh, and just for reference purposes:
Davis: 22 games, 35 goals, 24 behinds.

So, you were saying?

Such a dumbasses post. Do you believe they made their decision based on goals? If you don't believe this, why did you use it as evidence and then try to pretend you are so much smarter than everyone else by having that little "poor you" icon?

I really thought LeCras was a certainty though

A joke is far to strong.

It is a great institution but membership should not be overstated. It is a pat on the back by the good old boys. It is a conservative opinion formed by a committee many of which make fools of themselves each weekend.

If we played AFL against an equally strong set of international competitors it is reasonably certain that over time 30-40% of the selected team would be found out and replaced. Just look at the shake up in national teams selected in other codes, particularly the conservative Rugby selections. The unanswerable question is what 30-40%?

I think the biggest joke was Bolton at CHB
Goddard shouldve been at CHB i thought

St Kilda were stiff not to have a player in the back 6

O well, when you have a selection board full of morons, thats what you get.

Ablett kicked 23 or 24, Swan kicked 17.

Fair enough but there would have been even more uproar if Ablett had been selected in a fwd pocket, seeing as he is the number one midfielder in the competition. Swan is a good forward and probably the best forward amongst the AA midfielders, with the possible exception of Ablett who is the best player in many positions on the ground.

It's a joke alright..

Davis couldn't get in before LeCras & Porp, anyone watching the game would know that.

Maxwell - Gee it's not hard to look good when you don't have an opponent is it?

Yep just look at Luke Hodge!!

Maxwell had a fantastic year this year and deserved his spot. I would have had Goddard in the Backline for Bolton & Gilbert in for Goodwin.

Swan on the wing for Montagna on the bench

Davis very lucky to make the team after fading out in the last quarter of the season. Would have Porps on the Flank and Lecras in the pocket. Lecars the stiffest to miss out I reckon.

ITT: People cry because players from a team they hate made it, and players from their team didn't.

Having said that, the most surprising INCLUSIONS were Bolton and Goodwin.

They honestly put Bolton at CHB instead of say Lake? Which means MACKIE would have played pocket? Even Goodwin, I mean, wow, talking about throwing someone in on reputation over the year they've had. He's had a decent year, but not AA.

Bolton didn't even make the Top 10 of his own B&F.

As per usual some strange selections. It is becoming much like the brownlow - a bit of a lottery.

I think the midfield was OK - picks itself really. I thought Le Cras in the pocket was deserved, then move Leon to half forward and Swan to the bench instead of Boyd.

The backline was where I had my gripes. Goddard needed to start on ground. Bolton, Goodwin & Mackie are all very questionable. Gilbert & Hargrave very unlucky.

Mitch Clark also very unlucky.

The AA is a laughing stock. No Mitch Clark and Brown in a Forward Pocket.

Mitch Clark was unlucky not to make the bench but where should Brown have been exactly? Riewoldt was the best CHF and Fevola the best FF.

Fact is, AFL has changed/is changing a fair bit so traditional positions don't mean as much as they used to. I don't see a problem with putting the 3rd best forward for the year in a pocket.
