Coach Has Ken Hinkley Been Found Out?

If you think that a team that finished the season in third place with 17 wins doesn't even have ten players who would get a game for a top eight team (noting that five top eight teams finished below us on the ladder), your argument is so self-evidently ridiculous that I'm not going to waste my time refuting it.
I agree that you are a top 4 team, at worst a final’s worthy team.
But I do believe that you don’t have a top 4 list.

Lol what an absolute ridiculous comment.

- SPP, Aliir, Burton, Finlayson, Drew, Bergman, Rioli, Farrell, DBJ, Jones

You're telling me these guys wouldn't get a gig at another club?

Mid season when we were up and about Bergman was hot property how he was gonna go home to Vic etc.

We won 13 games in a row, that doesn't happen if your players are no good.

No one gets as many excuses made for him as donuts Hinkley. It's his job to deliver results.. we've won 2 finals since 2014.
Yes I am telling you that not all those players would get a game in a top team.
Or are you counting West Coast like your other poster did?

So you want the 7th to 16th ranked players to be best 22 at every single other club?

You realise thats ridiculous right?

No club has a perfect list. Collingwood are flag favourites and their forward line is pretty mediocre.

If the fabric is so bad, how did they win 13 games in a row and finish in the top 4?

And in regards to Kingsley, is what he is doing not comparable to when Ken first came to Port in 2013?
2013 was 10 years ago.

If Kingsley hasn't won a flag in 10 years and still has the job then he'll get the same treatment.

As for the winning streak, it's the same with Brisbane under Fagan, and Geelong under Scott prior to 2022.

Being H&A champions doesn't count for anything, the idea is to win the Grand Final.

I really like Ken, and I'd be happy to have him back at the Cats as an assistant coach...but if you've had 10 years and haven't even made a GF then it's time for someone new.

Sack Hinkley

Sack a coach that gets his team to finals on a regular basis ?
WHAT if Kochie does decide to let Ken go, and Port Adelaide end up as bad as North Melbourne or West Coast in the following seasons ?

Ken must be kept at all costs!

Found out? ……… I’m not sure a coach who has a 60% H&A and 50% Finals record (until last weekend) has been found out. 2020 & 2021 Prelim losses hurt, and they’re still in the hunt in 2023.

I think everyone’s really keen to get into coaches who’ve not delivered premierships, but they’re bloody hard to win and it’s even harder remaining competitive over a sustained period.

Ports current list is very good, they’re coach is also very good and time will tell how good this list can be.

Pretty much.

Brisbane were warm favourites for the QF and when they are clinical around goals at the Gabba you have no chance. They also had some fresh finals confidence from banking a couple of wins this year.

Now Port will be at home and favourites. The thing is, GWS are arguably the best traveling team in the AFL right now and on a hot streak. In fact the loss to Port has been their only blemish for almost 3 months. And they've made it to a GF the hard way before.

Straight sets never looks good but it is a genuine possibility for both top 4 sides this week. Would it make Goodwin and Hinkley poor coaches? Or simply reflect meeting two very good EF winners?

I say this as someone who despises Port and has for years (not just a JHF thing).

I understand what Port fans are going through with Hinkley, because North went through it with a decade of Brad Scott.
You know deep down the bloke just isn't good enough to take you all the way. The similarities are there, no ruthless edge and poor defensively.

North and Port fans have never really liked each other, it goes back to when Byron Pickett left North and went to Port.
North fans should hate the Crows more because of 1998 but they definitely hate Port more.

If there wasn't the Geelong link, I do wonder how the Vic media would view him.

You can't claimed he's been great because he's made finals so often when that just means he's had the chances and blown them come September.

We make the finals about half the time.

We haven't won a knockout final for 9 seasons, with only 2 finals wins total since 2014.

He's a terrible big game coach and blows them badly all the time. We're rarely mentally right for a big game. He sucks.

Hinkley isn't the list manager, sure blame him for the team not being well prepared for games but it's not his fault the list has glaring holes.

Why can't SA sides beat top 4 teams on the road?
It doesn't seem to be a problem for the other non Victorian sides who have all managed to do it within the last two years.

Port haven't beaten a top 4 side on the road since beating Hawthorn at Docklands in 2015.
Crows haven't beaten a top 4 side on the road since beating Sydney at the SCG in 2012.
Vic Bias

I wonder what they’ll do if they lose next week to GWS? Surely they’d be having crisis meetings re his tenure. Unbelievable that they’ve signed him.
What about Goodwin if Melbourne go out in straight sets second year in a row? He's looking twitchy and is coming across as a bit unstable and erratic. The pressure is clearly getting to him.

I mean he's got just about the best list in the comp to play with and he can't work out how to drill them to make a half decent i/50 entry for 2 years now!.

Melbourne are blowing what should be a dynasty with Goodwin.

Goodwin is flawed, but at least he has a flag to show for it. Also don't have a match winning forward line from a Key Position view point right now (Van Rooyen will get there eventually)

Hinkley keeps wasting talent lists and underperforms in finals

Hinkley's never had a list near as stacked as Melbourne's. Personnel wise Melbourne have had decent forward options but they just can't get any decent connection with the mids. Coaching issue for mine.

The proof was in the pudding when Walsh and Richardson lest post-2014 and Port’s young preliminary final side crumbled to back to back finishes outside of the 8. These were the first two of five years in which Port did not win a final with the remains of a young side that came within 3 points in an away prelim to the three peat Hawks. How in God’s name did he survive those 5 years?
