Coach Has Ken Hinkley Been Found Out?

A bit of a rev up on game day is fine but geez it's way down the list of priorities.

Yeah Game Plan and Game Strategy are the biggest failures for Ken.

When something isn’t working I’ve never encountered a less adaptable coach.

Just stick to the original game plan and hope it works no matter what the opposition does or figures out.

Its not Hinkley.

Its Port Power themselves.

By the start of the 2004 season they'd played nine finals and only won two and that included finishing on top of the ladder twice. Its a true Port Adelaide tradition to lose AFL finals.

You can blame Hinkley all you like but its the players that are mentally fragile. Drew's first clearancxe last night was the perfect example and par for the course.

And its no wonder the players are so fraguile when there's so much division over a coach that gets such great H&A results out of his side every year but gets **** all support from the people behind the scenes in Adelaide. You can see it with the clowns in all those sack Hinkley threads and in the Adelaide media etc etc.

The players feel this pressure in finals cos they know what a great job their coach does during the season and don't want to let him down.

If the Port Supporters actually supported their side instead of white-anting its leadership at every opportunity they might actually see some success in September.

Development of players... so consistently playing McIntee, Narkle, F. Evans when we know their output is the worse in the league than plating some of the younger players? Or would it be playing a 90yr old Dixon who can't move because he hasn't developed any other talls?

Skills and Strategy... like us being the worst kick at goal in the league?

Game day Strategy... what was our GDS last night? Sit on our hands and let Geelong tear us a new one? What was plan B, or C? Didnt see any of that.

So tell me again how good a coach Hinkley is?

As always, the only way to defend Ken is to argue that senior coaches aren't actually responsible for anything. He bears no responsibility for the state of the list after 12 seasons with him at the helm of it. He bears no responsibility for the mental conditioning of the playing group. He's nothing more than the world's highest paid interchange steward.

Adelaide is basically a small town, its a fish bowl in AFL terms. All this crap you lot spout on the back of the phone guy ... it gets in the player's heads and sows doubts they don 't need, then they increase the pressure on themselves and it shows in situations like last night.

Frankly its hilarious and I know you'll double down on it cos deep down we both know you'd rather see Ken fail and get sacked than see your side actually win a flag under him. You and the others like you are the problem here and...

You seriously don't think the division that all this anti Hinkley shit causes has an effect on the players come finals time?

LOL.

Port Power have struggled in finals since they formed and started playing in the AFL 27 years ago. Youse have won more than one final at a rate less than a quarter of the time you've made them over your short history. You had a reputation for choking in finals 20 years ago so why blame it on Ken as if its a new thing? Its a consistent part of your club's narrative.

Frankly if the toxic garbage you lot spew about him on that board of yours is what things were like when your side was just starting out its no wonder your club can't focus on just playing footy during finals.

The greatest coaches of all time - Barassi, Pagan, Clarkson, Jeans, Matthews etc will all tell you teams struggle to win finals when there is any form of external distraction. IE a distraction like the constant calls to sack your coach after four top three finishes in five seasons.

Ken has a shocking character flaw.
He is known to throw anyone and everyone under the bus when things get tough but enjoys strutting around grandstanding when there’s some credit to be taken.
This shameful performance must be the last straw … it’s time for this shyster to finally walk the plank !!

Their team selection and list management is woeful, too.

For Esava, they gave up three picks; Geelong use pick 63 of those to get Lawson Humphries.

Years after being called out by teammates for being overweight, Rioli still carries puddings around.

And the Cats figured out in 2021 that Narkle, Evans and Esava weren't a viable forward set up. What made Port think anything different?

And nothing seems to be done to force their elite midfield to be less selfish and more defensive.

Just utter incompetence.

Not dismissing any of that out of hand. Just think the whole "get the boys fired up on the day" is BS. That's on the players themselves as pro athletes.
