AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Carr is responsible for match day coaching and has been since Hinkley moved to the bench. Now here’s a question I want you to answer.
We saw Aliir dominate Sydney early and was a brick wall, but after quarter time, he wasn’t effective. We saw Longmire make changes to get around Aliir. At the same time, our forward entries didn’t work. What changes did Ken make? Also what changes did he make to get our defence back on top when Longmire figured him out?
Don’t shy away now.
Who told you that? If true, the more I hear about Ken, the more I wonder what he actually does. He’s one of the highest-paid coaches in the league, and he’s useless.Carr is responsible for match day coaching and has been since Hinkley moved to the bench.
It’s so crazy how many people are influenced by the AFL media. Every excuse they make everyone else seems to parrot those same points. The more I look at it the more I feel like Ken has done a pretty good job with a list that really isn't as talented as other lists that have been making the finals of late. They've overachieved IMO.
Hinkley is responsible for being a father figure to the players, making them feel welcome and comfortable at the club.Who told you that? If true, the more I hear about Ken, the more I wonder what he actually does. He’s one of the highest-paid coaches in the league, and he’s useless.
Kenny telling port supporters to gagf and daring the board to sack him. At least one more year for Kenny.

You’re right. This is why he’s a shit coach—because he isn’t a coach. There are plenty of other roles out there better suited for him. And don’t try to lie and act like Ken isn’t in charge of game plans. We’ve had the same garbage plan for years, no matter who the assistant coach is. As I said earlier Ken has final say on game plans. It’s like you don’t understand what a “HEAD COACH” is.Hinkley is responsible for being a father figure to the players, making them feel welcome and comfortable at the club.
It's led to Port having great ability to retain players especially compared to the Crows and Dockers, while being able to attract recruits from other clubs (Lukosious and Richards) in trade week.
Hinkley deserves credit.
Can this dribble please be banned from the Port forum?Hinkley is responsible for being a father figure to the players, making them feel welcome and comfortable at the club.

So how come Port supporters have given Carr the credit whenever Port have been winning and playing well over the last two years? Hinkley deserves credit for the wins if he's going to cop criticism for the losses. You’re right. This is why he’s a shit coach—because he isn’t a coach. Why are you such a Ken fan? You make countless threads on here about him and Port. You frequently come to our board about Hinkley. It’s like you know him in person. You’re such a rider for Hinkley you say stupid things I wouldn’t be shocked if this was Whateleys private big footy account.
Why ask me a broad question when I can’t answer for every Port fan? Who even are these fans who give Carr all the credit for wins? Why not go ask them instead? So how come Port supporters have given Carr the credit whenever Port have been winning and playing well over the last two years? Hinkley deserves credit for the wins if he's going to cop criticism for the losses.
Remember last year when Port won 13 in a row after Hinkley moved from the box to the bench? I remember when that happened and Port supporters said it wasn't a coincidence and Carr was the one responsible for game day tactics.
I remember when Port won 13 games in a row last year and I read comments from Port fans giving Carr the credit, because in their words "it's not a coincidence the team started playing differently after Hinkley moved to the bench" and they did mention Carr being responsible for game day tactics. Why ask me a broad question when I can’t answer for every Port fan? Who even are these fans who give Carr all the credit for wins? Why not go ask them instead?
I think Hinkley is a good coach because he has a 60% win rate over 12 completed seasons, and has done well to get a list riddled with holes to finish top 4 for two years running which is why his finals win rate is only 40%.Why do you always ignore questions I ask you or points I make? You always have to double down and talk about something else. You legitimately never make any solid points you ever successfully defend, yet you never shut up about how great Ken is. Doesn’t matter—you’ll just ignore this and yap about something else like you always do.
Again, go ask them about that.I remember when Port won 13 games in a row last year and I read comments from Port fans giving Carr the credit, because in their words "it's not a coincidence the team started playing differently after Hinkley moved to the bench" and they did mention Carr being responsible for game day tactics.
Not that I remember. I just wanted him gone and was hardly invested in our games last year. Even if people thought that what does it change? Port still choked in finals with in his words “best list I’ve ever had”.Did you personally give Carr the credit for the wins last year when Port won 13 games in a row?
I watched the preliminary final against Sydney and I didn't see any moves made to counter Longmire shutting down Aliir.
Outside of win/loss record, what makes him good? He’s always had good lists, so don’t lie and say the list is bad because of holes. Do you really think inheriting a team with prime Wingard, R. Gray (one of our best-ever players), Boak (our games record holder), Schulz, Wines, etc., and then adding Ryder, Dixon, Rockliff, and more early on is a bad situation?I think Hinkley is a good coach because he has a 60% win rate over 12 completed seasons, and has done well to get a list riddled with holes to finish top 4 for two years running which is why his finals win rate is only 40%.
They’re nothing alike. Scott can actually work with players like Managh and win finals; Ken can’t and blames his failures on these types of players and people like you would call him a “list hole”. Scott can actually make a grand final and not throw everyone under the bus when his team loses. To be honest, the situation at Port reminds me of my own club with Chris Scott given Scott has a win rate of 68% and a finals win rate of 47%.
We were home and away champions for many years under Scott who just couldn't get the job done in finals, and it's because Scott didn't have the cattle to take us all the way.
We saw what happened with Scott when he finally had it all come together in 2022.
To all the Kenny haters, just remember Port keep bringing in players like Esava, Ratkins, Zerk Tatcher, Quentin Narkle etc but Kenny somehow continues to make prelims. It is mystifying and the only reasonable explanation is that Kenny is an A-grade coach.
So poor man’s Geelong?
How about you can keep Soldo, but not Houston, and I'll chuck in Rory Atkins? Oh twist my arm, you can have pick 13 instead of 20.I'd personally be looking at trying to turn our F1, Soldo, 36 and 54 into Lukosius, Richards/Garcia and 20, then using 20 to draft someone like Berry or Hannaford. And telling Houston he's going nowhere.

How much room did Port have in their cap. Houston must have been on a good wicket if he goes out and they replace him with 3 players. One of which is reported to be on a mill a year on average.
Two things can be true we have some bad players and he’s a shit coach. Don’t know why you think they’re mutually exclusive. To all the Kenny haters, just remember Port keep bringing in players like Esava, Ratkins, Zerk Tatcher, Quentin Narkle etc but Kenny somehow continues to make prelims. He’s never ever had a rebuilding list which makes people like you gush over how he gets so many wins. Adam Simpson won a premiership and got sacked with an actually bad team so why even use the bad list excuse?
I would ask them, but it would require going back through posts made by Port supporters during the 13 game win streak last year to remember who the posters were.Again, go ask them about that.
Not that I remember. I just wanted him gone and was hardly invested in our games last year. Even if people thought that what does it change? Port still choked in finals with in his words “best list I’ve ever had”.
Hinkley is widely loved and respected by his players who affectionately refer to him as a father figure, and it's been like this since Hinkley arrived at Port 12 years ago.Outside of win/loss record, what makes him good? He’s always had good lists, so don’t lie and say the list is bad because of holes. Do you really think inheriting a team with prime Wingard, R. Gray (one of our best-ever players), Boak (our games record holder), Schulz, Wines, etc., and then adding Ryder, Dixon, Rockliff, and more early on is a bad situation?
Butters is coming home to Geelong at the end of his current contract at Port.Do you really think having Butters, Wines (Brownlow winner), Rozee, Aliir, Bergman, Georgiades, and JHF as the next core is bad?
Carr has been responsible for tactics since Hinkley was moved to the bench, so shouldn't the blame be directed towards Carr? These “holes” you speak of, are they McEntee, Narkle, Mead, Esava, Dixon, and Mead? The same group of guys that play forward, where our forward entries are terrible? What a shock that would be—it’s almost like it has something to do with Ken’s tactics.
Hinkley has overseen an entire list turnover with Travis Boak being the only player at Port who was there before Hinkley. If you think our list is bad, you’re wrong. It’s been very good over his career here, and he’s never had to rebuild, giving him that good win/loss record. And don’t be lazy and say he turned us around. Look at the players he inherited.
We got pantsed in finals several times between 2012 and 2021, which led to Chris Scott having a 7-15 record in finals during that time despite his amazing home and away win rate. These wins have meant nothing when we’re pansed every single year we make finals, and he learns absolutely nothing from his mistakes as it keeps happening. How is he a “good coach” when he has zero ultimate success?
Hinkley took Port to within a kick of a grand final in 2014 and 2020, many people said 2014 was a fluke but Hinkley proved them wrong in 2020.Since he’s been here, 12 teams have made a grand final, which is 66.6 percent of the teams. Eight have won a premiership, which is 44.4 percent. Nearly 50 percent of teams have won a premiership. Taper, he’s been here a dozen years. This is not “success”.
Dodoro cops the blame at Essendon for the state of their list, so shouldn't Port's list manager cop the blame for the state of Port's list? He’s had a say in our list management and who we’ve brought in, so don’t blame “list holes” when that’s partially up to him as well.
Chris Scott is a far better coach than Ken Hinkley, you'll get absolutely no arguments from me suggesting otherwise. They’re nothing alike. Scott can actually work with players like Managh and win finals; Ken can’t and blames his failures on these types of players and people like you would call him a “list hole”. Scott can actually make a grand final and not throw everyone under the bus when his team loses.
These two are not comparable, and you know it.
Yeah, I’m not reading all that. It really took you two weeks to come up with a response?I would ask them, but it would require going back through posts made by Port supporters during the 13 game win streak last year to remember who the posters were.
I don't have time to do that.
Hinkley is widely loved and respected by his players who affectionately refer to him as a father figure, and it's been like this since Hinkley arrived at Port 12 years ago.
He was always loved and respected by his players in the lower leagues in Geelong where he was quite successful as a coach, he just can't quite get there at Alberton having being so close on several occasions now.
His success as coach in the GFL is what led to him being hired as senior assistant to Mark Thompson.
Also, those players you listed are good but nowhere near the quality of Hawkins, Selwood, Stewart, Dangerfield, Cameron.
Butters is coming home to Geelong at the end of his current contract at Port.
The rest are a good core to build around, but the problem is the rest of the list is ordinary at best.
Look at Carlton, who have an amazing core of star players yet haven't done anything due to the rest of their list being bog average.
Carr has been responsible for tactics since Hinkley was moved to the bench, so shouldn't the blame be directed towards Carr?
Hinkley has overseen an entire list turnover with Travis Boak being the only player at Port who was there before Hinkley.
Despite this, Port have managed to win a minimum of 10 games every season since Hinkley arrived at the club.
Port were a basketcase when Hinkley arrived.
We got pantsed in finals several times between 2012 and 2021, which led to Chris Scott having a 7-15 record in finals during that time despite his amazing home and away win rate.
The majority of us wanted him gone after the 2021 finals debacle.
Hinkley took Port to within a kick of a grand final in 2014 and 2020, many people said 2014 was a fluke but Hinkley proved them wrong in 2020.
Bulldogs benefited from dubious umpiring in the 2016 finals series, and I have no doubt Port would have won the 2014 premiership had they been umpired by the same rulebook in the 2014 finals series.
Dodoro cops the blame at Essendon for the state of their list, so shouldn't Port's list manager cop the blame for the state of Port's list?
Chris Scott is a far better coach than Ken Hinkley, you'll get absolutely no arguments from me suggesting otherwise.
