When you bag mercilessly your most courageous reliable and team-oriented players, one who has stood tall in the dark days and is now struggling as he gets towards the end of his career, its a sign that you are losing the players.

A coach should never EVER rip shreds off a player like Scott Burns. Burns never gives less than 100%. Lose Burns, and you've lost the whole group.

Malthouse has about a month to get his act together. If he fails to bring the players along with him, he may not last the rest of the season.

I must admit that thought has crossed me many times. Maybe his thoeries are getting old and maybe he has lost a few of the players but how are we meant to know? A coach that has coached over 500 games must have a fair clue about how footy works. I think we've got to give him every chance. See what the situation is like at the end of the year. He's coached our club to two grand finals with probably the 5th or 6th best list in the league. Although it seems pointless to mention now after yesterday's performance. He coached avery undermanned side to a 33 point win over Freo in Perth last year.

How do you know that stuff.

Do you seriously believe Scott Burns deserves that degree of public huimiliation, two weeks after copping the brunt of the spray at 3/4 time?

Does it achieve anything?
Does it improve morale?
Will it make Burns play any better?
Does Shane O'Bree cop the same level of abuse? Has Chad Morrison doen much wrong since he arrived at the club?

IMO having a club legend like that humiliated (twice, not just once), serves only to alienate MM further from the playing group.

I saw the press conference.
I read both the Sun and the Age today.
I have not seen or read anything about a public humiliation.

I have heard is a coach saying that a senior player (Burns and others)was benched for poor performance

Can you show me where I can find the things you say Malthouse said that humilated Burns

Fair enough, he didnt say too much in so many words.

But I thought the tone of what he said about Burns was poor, almost spiteful, on top of singling him out at 3/4 time two weeks ago. 22 players were ordinary, only two were mentioned. One has been in our top five this year, and the other has been in our top three in the past decade.

He's losing the players IMO and needs to hurry up and get them back on board.

what a joke there about burns!!! malthouse said that there was alot of player that didnt do anything from the leadershi side.

he was asked about burns why he was on the bench for so long and he told it how it was he was carved up when he was on the ground, in any team sport if that happens and u play crap or dont follow the team plan u get dragged simple as that no matter on what u have done over the years.

burns has not been anywhere near his best this year, I think the only thing that is keeping him in that collingwood side atm is coz his past years i believe he should be playing for willy wake some of these players up abit that think that there automatic selection.

Its not Burns fault that he is 30 years old. At any other club he'd be played off the bench as an impact player like Riccardi and Harvey. But at Collingwood we are expecting him to play like he was 25 years old still.

Its a disgrace.

but we dont exactly have a choice now do we? he was fine last year when we chucked him in the tough stuff i just think that if they have a bad game then he should be up to cop the backlash like any other player.

if shaw was in that same position yesterday straight away it would be his crap should delist him use him as trade bate everything like that.

im not giving crap just to burns either i can go though a number of players that i would send back to williamstown.

i would rather play the kids get beat by 15 goals and know that we r trying soemthing different and looking to the future rather then go through the motions till the end of the year

got to agree with you hotpie...expecting way too much from scottie burns down at the club, the guy is in wind-down mode, and if we could afford to play him like Riccardi, harvey etc. he would still be a great player with an impact, but at the moment he is been hung out to dry and it is a shame

carrying the brunt of the attack for the poor performances of others

Once again you make the assumption that he has lost them

I just heard a long interview with Jimmy Clement.

He said emphatically it was not the Coach but the players fault and they took full responsibility

Where can I find anything that says the coach has lost the players

Thats the topic of the thread!!!!!!

In my opinion, he's on the path to losing them. It doesn't matter what Clement says to the press. what else do you expect him to say.

Then all you have to do to get me on the same side is to point out me to anything that anyone has said that shows he has lost them

You never get public statements when the knives are out. You can only go by body language and results.

Malthouse didn't say anything like that.

What did Malthouse say that showed Burns was being hung out to dry.
Please show me.

Thanks I understand what the topic is.

If you are now saying it is just your opinion and NOT based on anything factual then I accept that.

You know what they say about opinions though.
