Has the AFL world overrated Taylor Walker?

If he knows he is injured why is he saying play me?

I already told you. Because he's a naturally competitive person and he was desperate to play. Players often carry injuries and go out on the field when they really shouldn't. Just look at Selwood last year. He busted his ankle in a game and still went back onto the field even though he was hobbled and the game was already lost. I don't see you questioning his leadership.

I'm not going to criticise Walker for being passionate. The blame lies with the selection panel. They knew he was underdone and they played him anyway.

Apparently his hamstring 'awareness' levels were at a sufficient enough level that he could take the field.

Phrases like "hamstring awareness" are so hilarious. Who do they think they are fooling?

Until the GF, they had 100% success rate with it

First time I saw it I thought it was a pretty cool pysche out because no one expected it - In Adelaide's credit they never made a deal about it, to the point where Pyke denied knowing what the journalists were referring to - the media were the one;'s who made it a big deal

Once it became a thing that people expected, yeah it was a bit much and now it will forever symbolise Adelaide's failed 2017 GF - They will live with that, but to say that Tex had 'no such wisdom' in knowing when to shelve it when they had won every game up until the GF after doing it is a bit harsh

On Tex in general, I think he suffers from the fact that in all honestly he was an odd choice of captain from Walsh in the first place, who was dealing with the inevitable defection of Dangerfield in the following post-season. He chose someone who he thought was 100% Adelaide, and with Walker he will always get that - I think Walker is a natural leader, but in this day of age I don't think he is a captain - A captain in this day of hyper-media driven analysis and let's face it the guy is from Broken Hill and his old man played 400 games of footy for North Broken Hill - He aint a MENSA candidate - and yeah, no AFL captain is, but Walker can look like a bit of a relic in 2018

His old man played 400 games, but most actually for Central Broken Hill.

Re the OP yes yes he is

Don’t get me wrong he’s a good player but lacks consistency to be considered with the current elite KPFs in the game atm

Lucky he has such a long leg otherwise he would impact even less often in games in general

I don’t think anyone is gonna question whether Walker is a good player or not, clearly he is. It’s the questions over his ability to lead that will probably continue for a while. But most captains experience that at some point.

On an unrelated and relatively pointless note, he looks like a cartoon or comic character - elongated nose, haircut you could set your watch to, wingnut ears.

Nice. Well, he does live in Adelaide. Pilots used to say: "Ladies and gentlemen, we will shortly be landing in Adelaide. Please remember to set your watches back 20 years."

I always found the campy flight attendants said this without a hint of irony given that South Australia was the first Australian state to legalise homosexuality.

Been telling the Crows board this for years. They don't want to listen. Good kick outside 50, good with space, else as useful as kardashian on a quiz show.

Funnily enough I've been fairly defensive of Walker (ie: I don't think he's overrated or underrated) but he has had a shithouse game.

He's a had a few "off" years, I still think he's a decent player. Runs at over 2 goals game average

I'd still take someone like Jack Darling over him any day though, I don't think walker puts enough pressure on the ball carriers at all. Doesn't move up the ground or really affect play past the forward line and I think a good CHF needs to be able to really run both ways.

Mind you Darling plays a "high"(lol) CHF role where as Walker tends to play deep, so their roles are a touch different
