It wasn't the prettiest win but could this hard fought come from behind win be the kryptonite Hawks need?

Alot of good signs to take onboard; Gilham holding up again and the backline appearing more settled, Hodge & Sewell's last quarter , Buddy's best game for the season and the prospect of Croad returning soon as well.

Next week's game is HUGE! Collingwood is one of the inform teams of the comp.. Win and we'll be back on track for finals and a flicker of hope for top 4 will re-ignite with games against finals contenders Cats, Saints, Power, Crows & Bombers still to come! :thumbsu:

If the win against North provides the hawks with Kryptonite as you say, we can expect no super preformances from now until round 22. God knows they will need superman like qualities to beat the likes of the cats, pies and saints.

Guys the OP has made a very good point, this was our 1st time all year that we have won the 4th quarter and kicking 5 goals to 1 goal is a very very good sign.

It says that we have slowly got back some fitness and can finaly play out a game, we may not have played the entire game the way we hoped and we did come from behind but in all our games this year we either fell away in the 4th quarter and lost or won by a few points, so for us to actually come from behind and actualy play out the game kicking goals and winning was fantastic to see and i am so proud to see the fight and hunger back in the Hawks....

I have been as cynical as any prick re the prospects of our team this year, and I certainly dont feel we are a realistic chance for defending the flag, but that win today was very important for a number of reasons, and may well represent the path forward for success in the next couple of seasons.

Firstly, we won a final quarter. The hallmark of our success last year, completely gone this year, until today. We thundered home in crap conditions and had a fantastic win

Secondly, the budmeister has regained the taste for success. Written all over his face. His first 3 quarters were simply 'more of the same' for 2009, but he lifted a gear in Q4 for the first time this year, and looked like the killer that he has been for the last 2 years.

Thirdly, Clarkson seemed to come out of his shell today. Shifting the forward line around, putting a couple of smaller players up forward (Brown and, of all people, Lewis) to fight out at ground level and move the big units up into the play. Fantastic. Even though Bud flourished in the square at the end, he 'lit up' playing up the ground today.

Finally, winning against the roos in the rain. It was exactly the scenario that I would expect to lead to a crushing loss this year, but just didnt pan out that way.

I hate threads that say 'we will thrash those losers..' etc before the game, but dont paste the OP for this thread. IMO a far more positive and realistic thread than those stinking 'I believe....' threads.

One can only hope, just hope, that we have laid the foundation for playing havoc with some fancied teams in September, then returning to glory next year. We will know on two weeks just how realistic those dreams may be..

I'd like to hope that we have turned the corner, but I was thinking after the game.. We've already beaten this mob by 54 points.. I know that we showed some heart and came from behind, but we did only just get over the line. Not taking much from it until after next weekend.

How? We need to win 14 matches and even if we beat the Pies we have Geelong, Saints and the Crows to come. Aint gonna happen buddy.

I hope we have with this gutsy win. The key players like Buddy, Mitchell, Hodge and Sewell were great today. We usualy play well against the Pies. I think we are a chance, but Collingwood are playing great football.

Don't get ahead, take it one week at a time.
Pies could easily come out and smash us like dogs.

Yes but they were in the Boris the chicken stage back then and were ripe for a belting, this time round they were actualy playing better than us and pushed the dogs all the way when we got plastered by them.

This was a turning point in our season for it was the 1st time all year we have found fitness and heart and hunger to come back from behind in the 4th Q and win...

Depends really. We need to play 3 quarters next week at the same intensity and application we put in for the 4th quarter today. Do that and we'll win.

Glimpses in the 4th today of what the team CAN do when they have some confidence and belief in each other.

No, sadly it's two weeks too late for a realistic crack at finals. Frankly, North have been battered by injury all season, and had won a grand total of 4 games for the year. I'd hardly rate this as a season turning effort. However, it probably is a season-defining game in that we were able to scrounge out an ugly win against weak opposition.

With our percentage in the toilet, we're effectively 2 games behind Carlton and Essendon, and will most likely need to win 5 of our remaining 7 games to sneak in with 48 points.

Are you seriously suggesting (in addition to beating Port at AAMI, Richmond and Essendon), that we can win 2 of the games against 4 of the top 5 teams in Geelong, St Kilda, Adelaide and Collingwood?

Those teams are all performing at a far greater level than we have all season, including today.

NO chance i'm afraid. Although we will beat Collingwood next week. This i am sure of. We match up extremely well against them & will have our best win of the season.

For one quarter yesterday we looked like the reigning premiers. For the other three we looked like a team that was 6-8 for the season. The thing about the last quarter though that impressed me and gives me some hope for the last 7 games of the season is that there was a genuine desire to win the game. Buddy found his X-factor, Hodge hurt people, and Mitch and Sewell won the contested footy. For 30 minutes, it was the Hawthorn of 2008.

I agree we match up well on Collingwood, BUT...

The Pies are playing pretty impressive footy at the moment. Lets not forget that they just rolled a side that demolished us just 9 days ago.

Yesterdays game would have taken alot out of the boys. Anyone who's played in conditions like down in Tassie knows that you pull up feeling pretty sore and sorry for yourself. This coupled with the fact that we have a 6 day break as opposed to Collingwoods 8 day break means they will have the fresher legs.

Mitch injured is a concern. For some reason Malthouse likes seeing Mitch get 40 possessions and lets him run free all day whenever we play the Pies. If Mitch plays and is fit it gives us a glimmer of hope.

For me though, I ain't getting my hopes up. I've done it too many times this year which has caused too many heartaches and sore throats (from screaming at the TV etc.).

Good on the boys, sometimes you have to grind out a win to change a season around, hopefully this was one of those games...even if it wasn't, North have always been a thorn in our side mentally, yesterday those demons IMO were put to bed :thumbsu:

Firstly, No I think that we won the game because we know of North Melbourne's horrible final quarters.
Secondly, We haven't been able beat 7 of the 8 teams that are in the 8.
Thirdly, there's no harm in taking it one week at a time. We know that the game against Collingwood is going to be tough for us to win.
