Just because someone says something that justifies a personal belief does not make it true.

We have a 6 to 12 list, any objective analysis inclusive of experience accross the lines would come to that conclusion.

We are not far from a top 4 list, this is true, but to get there we need further development both individually and structurally from players and the coaching group too

The best list? this year? if its not, its bloody close.

We were out played/out coached. while Bevo is playing reactive catchup gameplan, Mitchell is forging his own brand and its working a treat. Maybe the new meta?

Thats not to say our restyling is not starting to work, but clearly we are still in the patchy phase. And we need to continue to work on it - maybe even get ahead of meta rather than coming from 6 years behind it

As for the game, the number of inside 50s tells a story - the hawthorn small forward line not so much an offensive threat as their ability to stifle our ball movement.

Also the 'strip club' was pantsed by the opposition as the game wore on. Hawks players expected to be molested when they won first possession, so they were just making sure that didnt happen - didnt matter if it resulted in another looseball contest just so long as they didnt cough it up directly to the opposition.

Midfielders off half back has happened for close to every centre bounce since at least the Geelong game.
Ed, Bont, Libba, Daniel, Weightman, West have all done it at times in the second half of the year

Agree 100% on Gallagher
Fair enough. To be fair I'd only been to the Melbourne game live - didn't see it there but may have missed it.

Anyway it was completely ineffectual on Friday.

Really need to do something about English,
just cant go into any more big games reliant on him in the ruck. must make him a second ruck only, whether thats Darcy or a makeshift ruck for a year or two

Darcy / English 50/50 split a-la Martin / English for the early period of 21 maybe?

Darcy is a beast up forward but I think English could be pretty comparable there as well. Darcy can work around the ground and clunk marks like Wmglish too and he’s good when the ball hits the ground.

He can still go and stand near him and compete.

Put your most dangerous forward tagging an opposition defender? Thats backwards.

Id hope the plan was for marra to lead to space and we kick the ball to his advantage, rather than bombing it long for the loose defender.

The problem was we failed at transitioning the ball through the midfield into our forward half and resorted to long bombs.

Meanwhile our best defender is standing in the goalsquare with his decoy opponent for the entire game, like it was 1985.

Bev got thoroughly rolled by Mitchell, have no doubt.

It was worth a try when it was obvious Marra was getting pumped and Sicily was running riot.

Our issues started and finished in the midfield, both offensively and defensively as it has in all of our bad losses this year as well as the last 3 times against the hawks.

However, if our forwards do not separate and move creating space for the ball coming from transition to kick the ball to, we will bomb it long. Our forward line looks good when there is plenty of movement and space being created allowing those up field to lower their eyes. Our forwards did not move and create this space so at least one coach should be under serious scrutiny on top of Beverage who each of the line coaches report to

agreed.

Delivery out of defence was equally bad, with way too many dump kicks. hawks were able to do to us what we have been doing to other teams - repeat entries from turnovers inside their forward half.

at the end of the day, it comes down to applying pressure and ability to execute under pressure.

One of the game's few highlights for me was a big don't argue that Freijah gave to one of their forwards.

He just has it Freijah. :think:I'm not averse to the idea that he may find a spot in the midfield.

For an 18 year old his composure looks impressive. He did fumble the ball a few times early on ( which surprised me given his previous assured games) but his resilience in putting it behind him and getting better as the game wore on is another sign that he can become an excellent player for us
