Tops but does a team of just role players win B2B flags or are they just a smash and grab flag type of team. .

I would rather a shot at a few flags like Richmond did and they had a couple of stars and role players the games best midfielder/Forward which we don’t have a game changer player but in Day and Newcombe we have players that could become very good players but not great I feel.
I agree we need to get more xfactor.

We need both !

Agreed.

We need an extra 2-3 seasons into our current group, a decent big body at either end plus a couple of X factor mids.

Then we might be talking about winning 13/14 games and being a contender again.

Will take time for sure.

Mihocek works extremely hard and Cox is a legitimate target. He gets his hands to the ball in so many pack marking situations.

Frampton is an absolute potato. But to be fair to him he's not a forward and was asked to play a role he's not used to.

How many of our side would have a) clearly got a game in the GF sides and B) stood out?
Maybe Lewis, Sicily, Breust, Jai, Hardwick, Day and Amon.

Reckon number of rest would have been would out by pace and pressure of game.

We have a fair bit of work to do.
23. All better than Billy frampton.

Yes a role in AFL football…

Mihocek is exactly what we need. Tough, honest, 40+ goals, fwd pressure.

Frampton is a spud fwd but Mcstay similar to Brodie in a bigger body. Tough and honest.

That’s exactly what we need to partner Lewis. Plus a Bobby hill or Elliot.

We have Lewis & an aging of bruest but we are kidding ourselves if we denigrate what the pies have. Lewis is better than all of them but 2 of mcstay, mihocek, Elliot or hill would take us a lot further.

Hard to say when we beat both sides, and not with a bit of luck thrown in either

Collingwood don’t bury sides because their KPF are poor, hence them winning all 3 Finals by less than a goal

Imagine if they had decent forward targets, they’d have won the flag by 6 goals

To compete, we desperately need 2 more avenues to goal to help Lewis

Those teams should be burying the 16th team, regardless of ‘little to play for’

It's a completely pointless exercise. They finished top two over the course of a season and both played off in a Grand Final for a reason. Meanwhile we finished third last for a reason.

Our forward line is a massive concern going into 2024.

We were probably bottom three in the league up forward this year and we will be even weaker (on paper at least) next year with Kossy and Brockman leaving.

Putting a hell of a lot of pressure on a couple of MSD pick ups in Ryan and Rama to turn the forward around.

And I am still not seeing a true dynamic small forward on the current list (maybe Watson in the draft?)

Agreed, but then we’d be better than both these teams in finals too…with a year or two more development and experience

Don't agree with this statement. Demons have been burying teams for the last few years without decent KPF and before that the Dogs were doing the same.

The reason these teams enjoyed success is because they all had good goal kicking mids.

A year or two more? Doubt it mate. We still have plenty of holes to fill. And don't underestimate the discrepancy between Pies match winners and our lack thereof.

Deogey, daicos, pendles, Mitchell, crisp + daicos and Sidebottom on outside (plus adams who was injured). Lots of size, speed, power, class.

Can our current group get to that level?
Jai and Day yes. Maybe Ward gets to a j Daicos/side level on wing (plus we have Amon already). Maybe Mackenzie gets that pendles class and HH that Mitchell ball winning. Also possibly CMac to add in as well (+ worpel and Nash). Probably lacking some footskills and electric speed. Reeves is the wildcard - when he’s in and dominates the taps gives us a big advantage.

Worps is playing at the level already

Every off season we speculate on positional changes (typically moving hbf up the field) - is this preseason the year it may happen?

We are short forwards with brock going and chad injured (+ possibly Kosi going and maybe Breusts last year)

In Hardwick and seamus we have two guys who were talented forwards as juniors. Hardwick more a marking type and seamus elite speed. Add them to butler (who appears trending towards more a hard working defensive forward) + obviously Breust and Moore (more a high hff) and forward mix starts to get interesting with say Ramsden/DGB supporting Lewis as tall targets.

Would leave a hole in backline but is that easier to cover with our current list?

Seamus Lewis Butler
Hardwick Ramsden DGB
+ Breust and Moore + CMac
