We’ve got a pretty solid backline, and a rookie in James Van Es who’s built like a brick shithouse and an absolute mongrel.

I think we’re in a spot to have a gander at him.

Can he ruck at all, if he’s asked to play fwd/ruck?
Backline would be his best option. Has height, good intercept mark and kick.

Depends on who you ask. Some considered Jeka to be the most amazing talent not in the AFL with a disposal by foot that was delivered with tactical precision 100% of the time. Some were more balanced and felt that his attitude and workrate weren't quite up to AFL standards desptie his obvious talent.
it's easy to forget workrate and 100% application are skills you have to learn and improve on just like any other

Here's Version 1 of the state of our list for 2024! :) I have done this for the last couple of seasons so thought I'd crank it out again.

Some notes:
  • I have based all contract lengths off the info currently in our own Contract Status thread.
  • Brockman and Kosi I just chucked straight in the 'delisted/retired/traded/FA' box because they are 99.9% gone, if not more.
  • Newcombe I have auto-promoted to the senior list because I am 99.9% sure we need to do that this year. The other rookie listed players I have left on the rookie list and will wait for confirmation of any other upgrades.
  • At this stage we will require a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 10 players to be acquired via some combination of re-signing (Greene, Bramble, Long, Serong, Bennetts), trade, free agency, national draft, PSD, rookie draft and SSP - looks like Massimo D'Ambrosio will be one of those!

As always, let me know if you spot any mistakes!

You can move JB at least into the Cat B spot (done deal) but maybe better depending on the trade period.

I would say entirely unlikely.

Hasn't all the talk on this one been confined to Bigfooty rumours and nothing else? And not necessarily from the reputable posters?
I've only read it here, within our mixture of good sources and speculation. I don't really go outside what Twitter or this gives me.

Pretty sure the reputable posters said Scrimshaw being traded would be deeply unpopular with the playing group.

how likely is Scrimshaw to North looking?
Likely gone quiet after Hawks telling he won't come cheap. Pick in teens or no deal.

Now that Norf have extra picks( 19 & 19,20 from 2024), it may come up again if they are not able to use those extra picks for some player or pick trades.

They may keep their powder dry for pick 14 as it can be used to get pick 4. If they are not able to do deal there & we still have pick 30, we could try and trade for 14 with 30 or 49 going back for Scrimma.

Obviously they would have approached first thinking we may give him up for their pick 40 or 52 or F3.

Scrimshaw would have to agree due to being in contract, and he wouldn't.

Well that too. So if North want him, they have to offer him a juicy contract to tempt him.

So yes, they have to satisfy Scrimma and HFC. Clearly that bar has not been met, hence silence.

That doesn't mean it won't come up again. Lots of water to flow under the bridge.

If we have traded a player like CJ, we may be loathe to trade Scrimma too. Too many moving pieces.

Point is that just because there is silence now doesn't mean the past info was NOT credible,

Without giving much away - Bramble just bought a fairly big ticket item that I wouldn’t have thought a bloke without a contract would have splashed out on. Make of that what you will.

Perhaps it's a parting gift? We have to spend our salary cap in some way
;)

Who knows, trade period has not even commenced yet.

In saying that I hope we keep Scrimshaw.
