We need to keep him cat b or we have to delist an extra player to create a list spot.
I will delist 2-3 players we drafted with promise to repick on 1 yr above avg contract(for their level) if we see there is no interest from other clubs to take more picks in to draft

Would mean if other clubs are keen they need to give 2yr contracts and match the salary with should discourage blind punts. Then if they have a decent year in 2024, we either extend or we force trade if Compo pick for DFA is not good enough. The PSD threat won't exist for those players.

Obviously there will be more change to our list but I thought it would be interesting to see what it looks like starting with defence.
Blanck lockdown on bigs
Frost mix of lockdown and intercept
Sicily intercept and penetrating kick
Scrimshaw intercept and penetrating kick
Serong 3rd tall defender
DGB 3rd tall defender
Weddle tall and small (must play in defence)
Impey run and carry
Mitchell run and carry
BMac run and carry
CJ run and carry
Hardwick lockdown on smalls

2024 7
Hardwick Blanck Mitchell
Sicily Frost Impey
Bench weddle
That means scrimshaw Serong DGB BMac CJ don’t play in defence. Also clear we have 3 non playing 3rd tall defenders at least one should be moved on for balance.

In 5 years we lose frost Sicily impey maybe Hardwick. McCabe is the hope for Sicily nothing for frost yet, impey is BMac and Hardwick nothing yet. But plenty of time.

Conclusion: thank god we missed on Esava and mckay.

Like it FB although it Weddle on Impey off .
iv said it elsewhere and I’ll say it again . We need to cash in either CJ or Scrimmers . Id prefer to keep Scrim for his versatility tbh .

How many of our side would have a) clearly got a game in the GF sides and B) stood out?
Maybe Lewis, Sicily, Breust, Jai, Hardwick, Day and Amon.

Reckon number of rest would have been would out by pace and pressure of game.

We have a fair bit of work to do.

Think that is an unfair comparison. You have to look at a like for like comparison. As an example, Sicily's comparison is Darcy Moore not one from the bottom six. There are plenty of players in that bottom six that our bottom 10-12 could replace, but the problem we have is the depth at the top/middle pushing those 4-6 at the bottom out.

Frosty depth, not a starter. Hopefully very, very deep depth.

Dylan Moore generally stands up in big games also.

What stood out to me yesterday was how tough and mature bodied both sides were. In hindsight, that was geelong too last year against a young swans team. We are a long long way off that.

That’s where a few hardened foot soldiers from other clubs fit into the trade and list management picture.

We’ve really only got a handful of players playing each week who don’t have matured bodies now.
The majority of our best 22 will have at least 3 preseasons under their belt in 2024 and starting to look more like the finished product.

If we can fortify the backline and improve the forward line we’ll make our move towards finals sooner rather than later.
And as seen by Collingwood we might not even need any superstars to do it.

Yep playing a young, physically underdeveloped side will get you a few wins here and there when conditions are good.

But over the course of the year you need big, physical units all across the field to grind out enough wins to make the eight.

And finals especially you need those hard bodies.

Definetly agree we need some hardened, experienced bodies to balance our team structure from what it is now.

We do need to be stronger, it will come in time (I know I need to be patient) but accentuated when you add the mature bodies that structure and FA provides. I will say it again, they do not need to be stars or even good players, role players like we saw yesterday. An even balance with a smattering of stars.

A good TEAM always wins the flag.

I sort of agree with the last statement tops. You do need quality mids and solid role players to control the game. Definitely.

But you also need X-factor to break open a game and deliver in moments. Degoey's goal to put the pies in front. Everything Bobby Hill brought to the day. We were blessed with X-factor through the threepeat. It's the one missing piece for me. I'm hoping that O'Sullivan and Bennetts can provide it next year (or two

Tops but does a team of just role players win B2B flags or are they just a smash and grab flag type of team. .

I would rather a shot at a few flags like Richmond did and they had a couple of stars and role players the games best midfielder/Forward which we don’t have a game changing players but in Day and Newcombe etc we have players that could become very good players but not best players in the game types I feel.

I agree you must have the Xfactor of stars. That is why we won four from 2008 and 2015. It is called balance. Good TEAM(s) with a smattering of stars and Xfactor.
