i dont agree that our bottom 5-7 players have any real bearing on why we're a bottom side. every list in the AFL has a bunch of blokes that aren't up to league standard, that's just how it is with 40+ player rosters in an elite sport. look at some of the random names on Collingwood or Melbourne's list i guarantee you've never heard before and tell me with a straight face they're better than Serong, Morris or whoever. in fact you could make the argument the bottom 5-10 players on a list like ours is probably better than competing teams cos our picks have been higher the past 3-4 years

Fergus
Serong broke through last season for a couple of games and didn't look out of place.

Unfortunately was struck down with a unique health condition this year through no fault of his own.

Upon return to the VFL he's clearly bulked up and grown a couple of centremetres, and has seamlessly moved into a new position where we need depth.

I'd be pretty surprised if we deliated him. Seems a perfect candidate for a one year extension.
Agree he looked comfortable at the top level last year. Hopefully he comes into the side this week.

This is why I wouldn't be getting rid of McGuinness. If your bottom couple are still valuable and able to do specific roles I think it's a no brainer to keep them and get rid of the mid-tier guys who are quite good at doing things that you're already well stocked for.

As of today we have

Two 19 year olds in the top 10 of their age group according to their CD ratings (Weddle #3, Mackenzie #7)
Two 20 year olds in the top 10 (Ward #4, CMac #10)
One 21 year old in the top 10 (Seamus #10)
Two 22 year olds in the top 10 (Newcombe #3, Will Day #8)

They are in very good company as well. Weddle behind only Ashcroft and Sheezel. Ward behind only Daicos, Owens and JHF. Seamus among the likes of Gulden, Holmes, Thilthorpe etc.

We are building a very strong core group of young talent. We are missing players in the 23 mark. At 24 we have Worpel in the top 10, and Moore just barely sitting on the outer after a rather disappointing season by his lofty standards. Connor Nash the 10th highest rated 25 year old.

And the common theme, is that we have the midfield talent - we are in desperate need of elite players in the age group that play forward.

Just to compare where we are at to teams around our mark. We have 7 players in the 22 and under top 10 for their respective age.

North have two 19 year olds, zero 20 year olds, two 20 year olds, zero 22 year olds (4 total)

Adelaide have zero 19 year olds, two 20 year olds, one 21 year old, zero 22 year olds (3 total) - They at least get to add Rankine and Jones in the 23 bracket.

Eagles have two 19 year olds, zero 20 year olds, zero 21 year old, zero 22 year old (2 total)

GWS have zero 19 year olds, one 20 year old, zero 21 year olds, one 22 year old (2 total)

Freo have zero 19 year olds, zero 20 year olds, zero 21 year old, three 22 year old (3 total)

Absolutely. Brockman is knocking at the door of the top 10 in the 21 year old bracket. He had a negative CD rating last week which really dropped him down a few pegs.

We still need 2nd KPF and a game breaking small/creative HFF type. Someone that can break the game open.

I'm pretty sure we're going to see some delist and re-rookie of some borderline senior players as per Mitchell and Moore, as even beyond draft picks and trade ins, we will need to reshuffle the senior/Cat A spots.

Nuke at least is required to be upgraded as it was his third year being drafted midyear. Blanck, Mitch and Ramma all have contracts to back up a promotion to the senior list next year.

Other Cat A rookies after those four as I understand it (which for the moment include SSP/MSD pickups like Ryan in place of Lynch's senior spot) are Long, Tucker, Bramble, Ryan.

Bennetts/ O'Hara in the Cat B spots.

We started with 36 senior list players and 5 cat A rookies plus 2cat B rookies.
We had one rookie spot spare to draft Tucker, and Ryan because Lynch was on LTI. Currently then we have 7 cat A rookies.
I am not sure who all the rookies are but I thought Newcombe had been elevated.
Obviously we can go with max of 38 senior list and 4 cat A rookies if necessary.

Almost certain our rookies are currently:

Cat A
Blanck
Long
Mitchell
Newcombe
Ramsden
Ryan
Tucker

Cat B
Bennetts
O'Hara

If there is a comparable rookie list around the league at present I would like to see it. Even Bennetts as a Cat B is good and on hte rise for a first year rookie

Might get 1 player in the 22 and under team if we're lucky. :tearsofjoy:
