Long and Hustwaite need to find new positions, or new clubs.
They're not breaking into the team through the midfield this season, and that's with MacKenzie playing at BH.
Bit premature don’t you think? Long is a rookie in year 2 hustwaite year 1. Long has dual position played a lot forward in juniors, same with hustwaite who played back. We need mids who can play dual positions so we can run a lot through there aligned to a fast paced game plan. Stephens playing high HF at box hill doing well also. So far worpel and Nash don’t seem to have another position and Newk I expect will be able to go forward in time. Day already a back so I think we are building nicely. There are many other players I would look to move on in the next few years before these 2.
I think they could both be very important long term players for us.

I am not writing them off as players, or hastily seeing them off, just that I don't see either breaking into the midfield.
I can foresee them developing further with us but eventually moving on. Both have qualities I admire.

Newcombe and Day are not moving out of the midfield anytime soon.
They are about to enter their prime years, which will be spent in the middle.

As for Stephens, it feels like we are trying to shoehorn him into a role.
All of our forwards from the premiership era were natural forwards.
It's not a part of the ground where you make a player. They either take to it, or don't.
DGB is a good example. He just looks a natural there.

Definitely too early on poor Hustwaite. Long will get another year but will need to find some tricks. Stephens is the one I see as a list clogger. Just seems an ok VFL midfielder and has been in system a while.

You may be right we bat deep in the midfield and yet we probably need 1 explosive line breaker to add. We definitely will need to rebalance the list at some point and they may be ones to move. Long and Hustwaite seem like good character blokes with AFL attributes I hope we can find a spot for them but recognise not many make it in the grand scheme of things.

We will want at least one spot spare for the mid season draft, to at least five need to go.
Lynch - obviously
Wingard - cooked
Morris - injuries have prevented him from showing enough
Jeka - see Morris
Bramble - low impact player. Looks great at VFL level but it doesn’t translate to AFL.
Kosi - tries hard but simply ain’t going to make it.

With those delistings and McCabe coming on, I would stop experimenting with DGB up forward and move Serong back to the forward line. He has class. I always saw him as the Gunston replacement.

Not convinced Kosi will be delisted/traded. We're terribly lacking in the forward line, it's possible he's kept on as insurance.

Unless we bring in a KPP FA plus anticipate (hope) the further development of Ramsden and Ryan 🤷🏻‍♂️

If we're terribly lacking in the forward line, why would we continue on with talls that are unable to play seniors in spite of being terribly lacking?

Delisted -
Jeka
Morris

Potentially traded for late picks -

Bramble
Morrison
Kosi
Wingard

Retire-
Lynch

Big watch -
Brockman
Dgb
Really hope we retain Brockman- our young small forward stocks are weak with Bruest and Wingard nearing the end…

DGB not as fussed if we can get a decent pick back although our tall stocks are weak too…

I think I'd just be repeating myself if I answered your question.
There's no genuinely compelling reason. If we're this thin in that area and Kosi still isn't playing, there's more value in delisting him and seeing if his spot on the list can be filled by someone who may have something to show.

Like Dylan Moore and Seamus Mitchell, I think Serong is going to be a bit of a pleasant surprise over the last few weeks of the season and next season.

A 20 year old, 198cm (what a growth spurt!) KPP racking up 22 disposals, 8 marks @ 86% efficiency playing as a key defender is bloody exciting. Wouldn't be against a 2 year deal.

KPD stocks looking good with Sicily, Blanck, DGB, Serong and McCabe to come.

If i had to guess;
Morris is as good as done. A bit unlucky for him that Mitchell has exploded.
One of Kosi and Jeka will be delisted.
One of Morrison and Bramble will be delisted.
One of Scrimshaw, CJ and Maginness will be traded.
Lynch to retire.

Hypothetically ... Morris, Jeka, Morrison, CJ and Lynch gone opens up 5 list spots, is that enough?

Not quite, need one more, Ryan come in for Lynch. So 1 more to the above.

Only 4...we're one over at the moment, having taken Tucker and Ryan in the MSD

Geez what a nice bonus with Serong was around 192cm when drafted now around 198cm 👏👍. His bro must be a little pissed 😀
I’m sure Caleb can barely sleep at night being one of the best mids in the AFL.
I’d take height over sublime skill every day of the week

Only reason would be is if he shows something in these last few weeks in a different role, potentially ruck/forward combo as suggested elsewhere. Otherwise he’s gone.

You are right. But there is nothing to insure. We need to find forwards not give games to Kosi.
