List Mgmt. Hawk's List Management for 2025

Usually do one of these before the trade period but was caught-up with other stuff this year so here is my post-trade period update! This is what I have at the moment. As you can see, firstly the list is STACKED in terms of talent (which we already knew) but is also pretty close to being completely full as it is. If what I have is correct, then we have 36 primary list, 4 Cat A and 1 Cat B locked in for next year which leaves us with limited options in terms of drafting next month and SSP/MSD in 2025.

If I had to guess, I'd say we are likely to delist-then-rookie one or both of Gunston and/or Breust for flexibility. Regardless, we can only intake a max of 2 players to primary/Cat A list at the moment plus the option of another Cat B player if we want (which I suspect we will re-sign Bennetts with).

As usual, if you spot any mistakes then please let me know :)

So the premiership team is a team that plays very much like our 3peat style of play and took our record of most makes in a GF, is our game heading in the right direction as Brisbane beat GWS who play like us with this style, and Sydney who do not as play at all cost style as what we play but still have some of how we play in there game style got smash also.
I think it's hard to say that a team plays like our threepeat team when each grand final was played so differently.

Most marks is one thing - but it also just says that the opposition is stacking the backline and not concerning itself with what chipping around you do to switch play. Was true in 2008 and 2015 - not so much in our 2012, 13 and 14 grand finals.

Sydney don't play on at all costs but they do take their time to pick a way from defence to midfield. I don't think gamelpan is as much of a problem as relying on a handful of matchwinners to get it done

Brisbane absolutely struggled against GWS and Geelong playing the "kick mark" style in the finals.
What won them both of those games was going all out attack with fast ball movement once they realised they needed to change things up.

It wasn't the "kick mark" style that won Brisbane a premiership, it was their ability to play multiple styles of footy when needed.

I agree with you P&P. This is the key to finals success. We are getting there, but didn't quite have the versatility when Port nullified our Plan A. Maybe we will have it next year but it might take longer.

JZedd Any reason for the disagreement
I simply don't agree. Ward will make it at the Hawks and I struggle to see how DGB will make it.
Ward is working on specific contested areas in the VFL. He had a better year in 2023. I'm expecting him to come good coz we'll need him. Injuries happen unfortunately.

You probably need to read the post again

For those who have seen more of Box Hill than me, what is the issue with Henry Hustwaite? He is big, has poise with the ball and seems to use it well, but he didn't progress at all this year.

He’s really slow. Doesn’t get much outside ball and gets burned on transition by good mids even at vfl level. Doesn’t suit our running game at all as well. Has talent - just needs a big preseason to find a yard and build a tank.

He is a good size and is strong overhead. Might do better as a half forward than a mid.

A fit Mitch Lewis is going to make a world of difference for us.

Sydney had no answer for Daniher yesterday. He didn't even kick straight but his impact was enormous. Just won so many contests.

As much as the threepeat Hawks were known for ball control, when needed, we were by far the fastest ball movement team in the league. Our GF's in 2014-15 the story, absolute manic pressure and quick hands got our runners on the outside to burn the opposition. We only went to control mode for ' active resting' and that's it. Some of our h&a games from 2012-2015 were intoxicating to watch! Can't wait for the days when we average over 100 points a game!
Here's a quirky stat. İf I'm not wrong, in every one of our premiership years, we averaged over 100 points a game for the season!

We would have averaged 100 or so for the second half of this season I reckon.

And Brisbane haven’t beaten us this decade

Everyone seems to be saying they are staying going to be hard for list changes, regarding trading.

Apparently the AFL are looking at changing the sub rule to a five-man bench, so this means we’re more likely to rotate two key rucks through the bench rather than playing one key ruck and a backup rucking key forward a-la Cholly yeah?

Hmm possibly, or just add another bloke that can run up and down the ground all day instead..

I doubt it with Chol Nash and Weddle all capable of pinch hitting for 5 minutes a quarter I wouldn’t even consider it. It’s perfect for Josh Ward.

Two years before they start pushing for a sixth player as a sub?
