List Mgmt. Hawk's List Management for 2025

Usually do one of these before the trade period but was caught-up with other stuff this year so here is my post-trade period update! This is what I have at the moment. As you can see, firstly the list is STACKED in terms of talent (which we already knew) but is also pretty close to being completely full as it is. If what I have is correct, then we have 36 primary list, 4 Cat A and 1 Cat B locked in for next year which leaves us with limited options in terms of drafting next month and SSP/MSD in 2025.

If I had to guess, I'd say we are likely to delist-then-rookie one or both of Gunston and/or Breust for flexibility. Regardless, we can only intake a max of 2 players to primary/Cat A list at the moment plus the option of another Cat B player if we want (which I suspect we will re-sign Bennetts with).

As usual, if you spot any mistakes then please let me know :)

Really? One isn't a KPF and the other is an unproven youngster.

You could of at least went with Weddle.........
I realise my position is not consensus atm, but it is rational.

Lewis needs to put in a solid stretch of form in the second half of this season.
If he gets another 6 week injury, that will force Mitchell to use other options that might prove more reliable and productive.

I don't understand how it's controversial to suggest a player into his 8th year and never played more than 15 games in a season, has diminished importance to the team. We can't get high off the fumes of potential forever.
It's make or break for Lewis.

It's not potential though with Lewis. Tim O'Brien was frustrating as we expected him to come good but he never reached the heights we wanted. Lewis has shown he is can reach those heights of being a KPF.

Lewis' ability is known.
But if he's missing so many games, we're still talking potential to deliver on that ability.

Sorry, I just can't separate availability from ability after 8 seasons.
That's plenty of data, and he's had time to deliver on both, but Lewis just hasn't done that.

He's obviously a very good player, and I have championed his ability since drafting him.
But from a list management perspective, we're at the crossroads.

Still doesn't change the fact we have zero AFL proven key power forwards on our list, which dear wont be

Nonsense, Dear will be THE power forward of the competition.

He's was 18 so a bit slight but still showed he could crash into and knock over packs, take pack marks at the highest point, win a standing wrestle 1v1, hit up on the lead, score opportunistic snaps and soccer goals.

He's going to be a monster forward. Franklin was skinny his first year too.

Not Nonsense, he isn't built to be that forward, his frame does not lend itself to stacking on 15 KGS of muscle

He is an athletic type

Agree. No point trying to slam kgs on him quickly. He's not that type of player.
I remember a mark he took in one of the finals (against the Dogs I think) where he leaped and caught the ball full stretch just before it went over the boundary. It was like a slips catch crossed with a high jump, very impressive.

He's definitely more an athletic leaper than a banger in the packs. His recovery time when the ball hits the ground is as good as I've seen from a guy his height.

What’s all this talk about Dear having to stack on weight? Why build a player up to play like Hawkins when he currently has the mobility to play like Cameron? I don’t get it.
No need for him to stack on muscle. My point is that there is a fair chance it will happen naturally. His father was quite athletic and mobile and also had a decent leap. However, he was built like Gary Ayres or Leigh Matthews. I reckon that give Calsher a few years and he will have massive thighs and calves and the strength of an ox.

We were a bees dick from making a Prelim without Lewis. I doubt he would have helped get us in that Semi.

People forget that the Dees won a flag with a worse forward line than ours. Same with the Dogs. $wans lost 2 GFs because their mids and coach went missing not because of their average forward line.

I really hope Mitch can play 17+ games this season, but if he can't I'm not too concerned as I believe our mobile talls and smalls can get us there.

Mitch lewis wouldnt have made a difference in couple of point game where our two key forwards combined were beyond useless?

Interesting take I guess

According to this investigative report by the ABC about mullets in the AFL, we came second (30%) to the doggies (33%), not a bad achievement, but we can do better.
It's clear where our list priorities must be, more mullets. Barrass and Battle did little to address the issue, sure, they have strengthened the backline, but we need players who can lower the hairline.

It was meant to read 'into the Semi'. In hindsight he probably would have helped in the Semi but my point was we were capable of getting to a Semi without him and I question whether we could have played better with him in the side in the back half of the season.

Yes it’s true of Jiath, hence why he got a 3yr extension despite having another injury interrupted year.
Yes and Finn Maginness is also a first choice player (given he has extended to the end of 2027).

CJ had had two good years out of 6.

During that time, 2021/2022, and in that side which finished 13th and 14th, he was definitely one of our better players.

Things have changed significantly in the past 2 years. CJ, due partly to injury, has stagnated and many others have progressed.

Maginness doesn’t get games every time he is fit.
