The two teams that bother me are Freo and Gws. Their strengths are our strengths. Geelong is the other I think they can and will play better in finals. They are a seasoned team.
I want Geelong at the G. I reckon we would run them ragged, especially if it happens to be a day game. We would have learnt a fair bit from the loss at Kardinia Park, and what not to do.

At the MCG, we can realistically beat any side.

I read an article on the AFL website today that said that if we make the finals we will be only the third team to make the finals when starting 0-5 in VFL/AFL history!

That's a pretty amazing stat when you think about it.

I would think that the only other times would have been real early, when they only had 6 teams or so.

This is how we finish 4th
GWS beat Dockers (likely)
Collingwood beat Lions on MCG (very possible)
Adel beat Port (very possible)
Essendon beat Brisbane (unlikely, but this is 2024...)
GWS beat Bulldogs (very possible)
Dockers beat Port (very possible)

A lot that would have to go right but not outside the realm of possibilty.

I’m not talking flags, juuuuuust yet…

Yeah we got to win a final first, but I look forward to the day that we are the team with the most premierships.

Hard to believe that since I have been alive we have won 11 of them. 76,78,83,86,88,89,91,08,13,14,15. In that time of three teams currently stuck on 16, they have won a combined 12. Carlton with 5 in 79, 81,82,87,95. Essendon with 4 in 84,85,93,2000. Collingwood with 3 in 90,2010,23.

By the time we won our first one in 1961, Collingwood had already won 13 with their 13th in 1958. Essendon had 10 with their 10th being in 1950. Carlton had 8 with their 8th in 1947.

When we entered the league in 1925. Essendon had won 6 with their 6th being in 1924. Collingwood had 5 with their 5th in 1919. Carlton had also won 5 with their 5th in 1915.

So would love to surpass them.

A fourpeat would do the trick, so just got to be patient till 2027

I beat you by one, I’ve seen 12 in my lifetime.

And yep, these numbers/comparisons are so interesting: Geelong is another amazing one. For all their success and ‘great winning percentage’, since they beat us in the ‘63 GF, they have a grand total of 4 flags. In that same time, we have 12….

Its amazing to look back and see that from '76-'95, The Hawks, The Drug Pigs and The Paper Bags won all the flags except Shinbeggars '77, Tiges '80, Pies '90, and WCE '92&'94 over that 20 season span.

We were very dominant for so long. Especially from 83-91 where we played in 8 grand finals. 7 of which were in a row. Winning 5 and losing 3.

Not as good as Melbourne though, who from 1954 to 1961 who also played in 7 consecutive grand finals, with them winning 5 and losing 2.

It would take an enormous effort for a team to keep that kind of intensity going. Brisbane played in 4 2001- 2004. Richmond 2017 - 2020 for 3. Geelong 2007 - 2011 for 4. We were possibly the best if we include 2008. So it’ 2008 - 2015 for 5.

I think having such an even competition with drafts rather than zones and players able to move more freely, along with a salary cap, we won’t see sides being as dominant again.

It's almost impossible to see. It's a 23 round season plus finals.

Our game is brutal and to back up season after season, including finals is a huge achievement. We take the opportunity when it comes. What we saw from 13-15 won't be seen again as the pressure on the players is enormous.

No 1 for points against from round 6-22. This surprised me, had no idea our backline was going this well with a lot of fanfare going towards our forwards and attacking prowess.

If we make it to finals and by all accounts we should from here, I think we can rattle the cage

I'd just like to smash Tigers this week before we talk about multiple premierships.
Yeah. I want to see us put them away by 10+ goals, and no injuries.

Need to keep a clean bill of health at this time of the year.
