Actually last night proved that they are quite a bit in front. It's true that Bartel and Corey might not have had as much influence but it's also true for me to say that they would have had the same effect with Ablett. There isn't a definitive answer to what ifs and it's pointless guessing at something that isn't going to happen.
However, if I must, some would say that those missing players would add quite a bit more class to the team last night and thus improve Geelong's performance. You have your opinion and I have mine but I would hazard a guess and say more people would agree with mine than yours (that Geelong are a better team with those players in it).
Malthouse is crying out for injured players to be replaced because it affects rotations and then on field performance. I think Bailey said recently that with 1 player down, he considers a teams chances of winning to decrease by 17%. Chapman (16 poss and 2 goals) got injured just before half time. That was a big loss on the night especially against quality opposition. Take that all into account and I am surprised you think that Geelong aren't clear leaders.
Hawthorn pretty much had everything going for them last night and couldn't pull it off. They will be more than dangerous(they are already dangerous this year) in a couple of years when they have a few more 150+ gamers that can show the youngsters how to dig deep when they need to.
Good post, we had our chances last night and didn't take them, the cats did. Geelong had some quality outs and lost chapman after half-time and still prevailed. They are far and away the best team going around at the moment - they are more experienced, the skills are superb and there bodies are strong. The hawks are now at the same place that Geelong and Brisbane were prior to winning their premierships - it won't be this year but hopefully 09 or 10.
