Need to make sure doesn't umpire Hawks games
MCINERNEY
I'm nearly ready to give up on footy because of this bloke, He is either a cheat or incompetent or most likely both some of his non decisions in our forward half were incredible, people complain about given frees but an umpire can cheat by stealth by non decisions to certain player in certain teams and this is Mcinerneys MO . He leaves a very sour taste and his work is sanctioned from the top inside the gestapo. Bring on the spring horse racing season, as shady as it is it is much cleaner than the afl

Absolutely zero from Schoenmakers and Obrien, they probably try hard but basically just aren't very good footballers , despite the odd good thing they do once in a blue moon they are spuds at this level , we need to find a key forward for the future if we are to get back to being a top side.
Watch the 2015 grand final again and tell me Schoenmakers isn't a good footballer.

I love this club..........

32 disposals.
Only Mitchell :) and Murphy :( with more.

Yes, and actually did something useful with most of them. Has started to make better decisions under pressure which is his poorest attribute IMO. I like the theory that his highly visible late game blunder was due to being out on his feet given how productive he'd been up until then. Loved the way his 6 bounce run ended in a fantastic display of vision to spot Roughy up with a very precise kick on what must have been tired legs after the run. In the past , those line breaking runs often ended in a facepalm moment when his kick inside 50 was misdirected, so thought tonight showed fantastic signs , and that over the season, the trend has been going in the right direction for Hartung.

I think concerns with Schoenmakers form are more legitimate , has been quite for a few weeks. Its a pity because we really need an extra tall target at the moment with Gunston down back, and O'Brien having a series of quiet games himself. I don't think we are doing too badly if Schoey is in our bottom five, as there are much worse players going around.

Seeing Sicily forward also reminded me why he had trouble cementing a spot down there. Once he's out of the marking contest, not convinced that he works hard enough. Seems being in defence does something to switch him on that being up forward doesn't do. Will need to prevent the treatment he received tonight getting at him, as every team will do it now that they've seen how successful it was, but I'd also hope that umpires will start to notice that he's being unfairly targeted - holding his temper might help make that more obvious too.

I'll also mention that I'm saddened by how some fans on here discuss our players. I don't think players should be above criticism, and I think poorly performing players should be allowed to be called out on it. However, at the end of the day, we are supporters, and players that are given the honour to wear the Hawthorn jumper deserve a minimum level of respect, and I think some of the talk doesn't meet that level. If you can't discuss player shortcomings without resorting to rank insults, I think you should STFU. Fan support shouldn't be conditional on how well the team is going, but apparently some entitled ****wits think they have the right to call Hawthorn listed players spuds, and defend their bad attitudes by saying they are too much of a fan to take mediocrity.

There are ways of criticising players that don't make you look like a child throwing their toys out of the cot.

Did we win? Would other teams and coaches be wary of Hartung getting possessions?

We've seen Hartungs ceiling. It isn't good enough for us

I tried to find Hartungs involvement in scores but I couldn't find a good stat. I did look at Goal Assists and he didn't register at all

Did you actually watch the game? What do you think 6 bounces and then hitting Roughy lace out is if it isn't a goal assist or score involvement?

We are officially worse than carlton. This run a dub game plan is utter crap. No disrespect to clarko he needs to build a game plan like the crows and swans. They are the new standard. That was utter crap served up. Carlton had nothing to play for, we could have made finals. We need to hard trade time and do a geelong.

Rub-a-dub game plan looks like a short term patchup to deal with the fact that we have a 1-man midfield. Would be surprised if we don't go with a different structure once we have more than 1 elite player in our starting midfield. O'Meara couldn't be expected to change that in his first game back. Was even worse than usual with Shiels out. If we can find a way of pushing Shiels back to our 3rd or 4th best mid, Clarko will have a LOT more tactical flexibility next year.

There have been so many games this year when Clarkson had the chance to pull the trigger and throw Gunston as a permanent forward to try and be a lead up target. Even putting Burton down there would be ideal at times. Something we are sorely lacking in right now.

We are not winning a Premiership if Schoenmakers and O'Brien are our two key forwards. It's a poor set-up that the coaching staff need to fix during the off-season.

I'm hoping Frawley, Birchall, and perhaps Stratton back will have Gunston going back to the forward line. He's been great down back in recent weeks, but having our leading goal kicker from the last two seasons playing back is certainly far from ideal, but a necessarily evil given how often we are losing clearances and how much inexperience the backline has right now.

Id argue henderson was fighting schoenmakers and o brien for worst on. Decision making and skill level were putrid all night, the bruest kick wasnt even kicked properly to him, low and hard and jones wouldnt have even got near it, just floated it in the direction of bruest, there is a reason the crows turfed him. He will be spending time @ BH next year with vickery.

I'd be happy if a young player could put his hand up to take Henderson's role, but I can't see that happening any time soon. He's been in our 10 best players quite often this year, and there were many worse than him tonight. How was he to kick low and hard when Jones was between Henderson and Breust? Breust was running towards goal, and it was almost a perfectly weighted kick that took a ridiculously athletic stretch from Jones to spoil. Thought it was Breust's right up until the final second when the go-go-gadget arm stretched out to deflect the ball.

No, I'm not. Flat track bullies the weaker sides, does not dig in for the hard ball.
Prime example was that inside 50 where all he had to do was step forward and take the contact.
But nope, Luke doesn't like getting dirty. Ty Vickery does the same, this board breaks!

Luke gets a lot of contested ball for a small forward. Has more contested possessions per game than Buddy, despite being down on form this year.

I rode the games leading in today so the Hawks were a live chance at finals. Port saluted, thank you. Giants saluted, thank you. Then I saw the Hawks run on. No thank you .. the "pretty boys" were out in force tonight ready for the prelim Mad Sunday. Obvious from the get go with all the new haircuts where these boys were headed tonight. I choked on my Chivas and Shapes!! All we needed was a win tonight and for those Demons to be rolled by the Lions. Then next week was a playoff between the Dogs and Hawks for 8th spot. Living overseas I bought my ticket in advance for the elimination Final featuring the all-Victorian clubs. Sadly the Hawks admin failed them as did the selection of O'Meara and Puopolo. NO CHHANGE Alistair!!!!!

We misssd Liam Shiels so bad tonight, we already have the worst midfield in the competition so we can't afford to miss our second best mid in Shiels.

Yup, and I'd argue that made it the worst possible week to bring JOM back in. JOM did ok considering, but the gap between Mitchell and our next best mid last night was painful to watch. JOM will be more than fine when he gets some games together, and showed his class at times, but I'd have preferred he played at BH this weekend.

Interesting that Sloane was targeted last night and got heaps of free kicks yet Sicily gets targeted and gave away heaps of free kicks ????

Indeed. Club might need to be more careful about talking about loving it when Sicily plays on the edge, as the umpires listen to that too. Was certainly a victim tonight, and to rub salt into his wounds, it is not out of the question he'll miss weeks, but hopefully the MRP has some mercy when reviewing the tape given what went on over the course of the night.

Pathetic to hang up for the season when we were headed for 8th spot next week for sure .... Those players ready to go at 3pm today could have nbeen ready to go for the finals. Instead, pensioned off for AEP Holidays..

It's not all about possessions, look at the impact.
Will he take us forward? Can we build a team around him? Can he be a damaging player? What isn't he doing? What mistakes is he making? Can they be corrected?

Hartung did a very good job of moving the ball forward. Third best on the side for metres gained, had 5 score involvements, including the 6 bounces and pass to Roughy. Had 10 contested possessions of his 32, but still managed 78% efficiency. Did turn the ball over a bit, but less clangers than Hodge, and only one more than Mitchell. More inside 50s than Mitchell (5, Smith and Burgoyne had 7 and 6, the only two Hawks that were ahead of him). So in summary, Hartung did a great job of what he is in the side for - to provide run and carry. Overall he was one of our very best on the field today, and you've let a couple of shockers when he was tired in the last quarter completely colour your perceptions of his game.

I'm guessing you missed getting smashed by GC by 87 earlier in the year? At least we fought this one out.

The two matches I was at live this year... When I lined up my travel at the start of the season, who would've thought.

On the game. Really rated Burton, Hartung, Glass, Brand and Hardwick. (Mitchell of course). But pretty good to list all those new names. Love how Glass goes about it.

On Sicily - Lamb. During the Langford kissing saga, a few ex players said in the media that the worst thing you can do on the field is the old oppo hair rub. Lamb did that and also gave Sicily a 'clap clap'. Actually thought Sic handled it (plus the umpring) well for a hot head.

Didn't watch the game last night but had a feeling that Gil was going to do everything he could to make sure we didn't make finals. So many reasons including his beloved Saints getting a high 1st round draft pick.

Anyone who doesn't think the AFL manufacture results is kidding themselves. It's no coincidence that we started getting fcked by the umps after the departure of Mark Evans to GC.

Oh well, at least we've got the 3-peat to keep watching.

Billy bashing is pathetic, the guy made one terrible mistake, outside of that he was extremely good. People want him gone yet we have side full of pedestrians, Izzy and Billy (both frustrating as hell at times) are our 2 specialist line breakers.

I'll say again that Jags was very good outside the 1st qtr where he was adjusting to the speed of the game, the guy is going to be a bull inside. I think one thing we have to Temper though is the expectation we're getting this super athlete from his RS year. It's going to be an ask to get him back to that level, I can't see it tbh and I'm fine with that, if we have another inside bull who gets it 25-30 times and partners Tom im happy.

Clarko and Wrighty have a big summer ahead, I know GW gets so much praise around here but I've never been fully sold on him. Hopefully he has something up his sleeve because we do have a truck load of players who need replacing, let's see what transpires.

I fear the future without Hodges leadership, who else can steer the ship? This is murky waters we're heading into, there's no a lot of exposed and proven leadership left.
