Think he played to expectations, didn't exceed them or below them but was about the best you could expect considering the circumstances.

We do it all the time.

Have a chance to take a shot but go short to a 1 on 1 who will have to kick from 45 on an angle anyway.

I don't understand how we can play fantastic football against Sydney, Adelaide, GWS, Geelong etc. but then offer up absolute tripe and lose against Carlton, Collingwood, Gold Coast etc.

Normally i dont complain about the umpires but seriously, the frees paid tonight to the blues at crucial times were down right cheating!!

Also the commentators biaisness was disgusting. Only commentator who was okay was Richo

Richo spent most of the night picking out frees for Hawthorn that the umpires missed, so not surprised he came across as 'okay'.

Horrid but we got what we deserved.

Our best this year has only occurred with zero expectation. And our worst - like tonight - has been appallingly bad. We're not a finals side.

Tom Mitchell is better than anyone could have imagined this time last year. I hope he wins the Brownlow. His 21 teammates were very poor tonight, some absolutely terrible.

So there goes 2017. Disappointing year but some positives to work off. If Gibbo is fit I'd drop Sicily for him and let him have a deserving farewell game alongside Hodgey. Sicilys ill discipline tonight was childish and embarrassing.

Bolton smashed Clarko in the coaches box tonight, similar to how Hardwick did. Clarko gets a lot of credit when he gets it right like he did against Sydney twice this year. No coincidence that his disciples Hardwick, Bolton & Beveridge know exactly how to beat Hawks.

I'm over naming guys, there's 10-15 on the list not to up to it and 4-6 from tonight's side who can't be playing senior footy next year.

We have a solid nucleas of players to work with, but we need cull the shit, get rid of the rubbish plodders and replace them with either young talent and/or traded in foot soldiers.

It's not often that I get the feel that the umpires have a real influence, and I may be biased, but I feel like we got pasted tonight.

Hahaha, 'it's not often' it's been happening all freaking year. Not just to us either, seems they like to keep a game as even as possible. I would liken it to a handicap in horse racing, it creates ' the closest year we've ever had' and leaves fans fuming, which is also good as they then call SEN and vent.

Credit where credit is due, Carlton were terrific. Jones, Curnow, Lamb all very good. I thought we gave it everything but were beaten to the ball by a desperate opposition and were under extreme pressure when we did have the ball. All of these games are great building blocks though. The fact that JOM got through unscathed also is a bonus. 2017 has been surprisingly enjoyable given our win/loss I must say. We definitely have a future ahead of us.

Played like the sentiment of this board really. All eyes on the other results and seemed to have already banked this game as a win and feverishly looking forward to the Dogs clash next week. I was at the game and we were flat footed from the very start, looking barely interested. The only thing I can put it down to is that they'd got ahead of themselves.

Those blaming specific players i.e. Langford, Shoey, Hartung etc need to pull their head in. Not one player lost it for us, it was a collective effort.
