Hawks vs Blues: Who will have more support in the stadium?

Poor Hawthorn supporters so desperate to be part of the big 4 yet can't even out number Carlton supporters in the stands coming off a premiership year for a HOME game.

Carlton/Collingwood/Essendon/Richmond coming off a premiership vs one of those young teams on the rise would have been a lockout.

Dream on Hawthorn - 50,000 members yet still a minnow club.

QFT

They can't outnumber Carlton in their home game with 50k members.

Pointless worrying about something that won't happen for the next decade or so.;)
Might as well be discussing the West Sydney vs Gold Coast Grand Final..which wll occur before any of the above teams winning.

4 premiership points

Something you can't manage against Hawthorn - even when we hve a third of our side out

Better tank for another top draft pick - there's stil time, should we tell the top draft prospects that your coming ????

Simply an observation but walking to the G along Powlett St both before and after the game it was particularly clear to me that the Hawks jumpers clearly out wieghed the number of Blues jumpers. Could be something there.

As for the crowd noise, with the exception ofthe last few minutes, I thought it was pretty even.

Just another point. When Buddy was penalised for his 'don't argue' move againts that Carlton pygmie in the centre square, the noise of the boos coming fromt he Hawks was something I have never heard from the Hawks supporters before.

Pretty even I reckon.

Only place there was a significant advantage of Carlton supporters was the AFL members, where there were massive amounts which is relatively unsurprising since it wasn't a home game for Carlton members.

Rest of the Ground, I would have placed Hawthorn in the ascendancy, the roars for 'Ball' weren't coming from one place in the ground (like it was for Carlton - see above re: AFL members). However, it was a good turnout by Carlton supporters. Even if I did have to put up with an annoying little shit of one who's high pitched effervescent squeal like cheering was distracting in the tense final quarter.

Crowd split is always hard to gadge, it was a Hawthorn home game so predominantly the majority of Hawk fans would have sat in their reserve seats away from the Carlton fans (thinking they had the numbers)

Likewise the Carlton fans sitting in the GA would think they had the majority because most of the walk ups would have been Carlton fans...the likely outcome is that the split between the 2 sides would have been relatively even

Imagine if it was a Carlton home game AND Hawthorn designated away game, we might have got 75-80,000 yesterday

I'd like to see us fixtured on a Friday or Saturday night next year.

Recon we'd top 80k. :thumbsu:

At the end of the day any games featuring Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, Richmond and Hawthorn (when in form) should always be at the MCG.

From where I sat it looked like Carlton supporters outnumbered Hawks ones at a ratio of about 26-1. Please note my comment has nothing to do with what team I follow, just as it hasn't for all the ones before it.

Six pages long. So stupid.

Hawthorn are not a minnow club and while they were definitely outnumbered by Carlton fans at their home game at the MCG yesterday they still have a strong supporter base. The Hawks deserve to be hosting Coll/Carl/Ess/etc. at the MCG.

The Blues outnumbered the Hawks in the AFL members, general admin and MCC members areas, but the Hawks had their own members section which was hawthorn only.
Overall it was in the order of 30,000 Hawks fans and about 39,000 Blues fans.

Carlton are not a shit club anymore and should be commended for the strong showing from its supporters to the game despite being out numbered by the Hawthorn supporters.

PS: Abaddon, why do you choose to remain as unlisted despite the fact that you clearly support Carlton?

It was a great crowd considering how ordinary the Hawks have been in 2009.
Let's hope that we never play each other anywhere but the MCG again.

Probably an accurate assessment.

Give or take a few thousand neutral supporters.

69,000 is a great number for this match. Great game of football too.:thumbsu:

In terms of members that nominate which team they support, Hawthorn and Carlton have a very similar following in the MCC (Carlton 9% of members, Hawthorn 8%)

As Walhawk said, Hawthorn have 20k reserve seats at the MCG, even if only 15k people turned up and Carlton dominated the GA section (65% pro Carlton across the rest of the ground, which is a massive number) the crowd split would have still been marginally in favour of Hawthorn or at worst even

Its very rare for the away side to outnumber any home side with a decent following, given that 1/3 of the GA seats are allocated to Hawthorn members it'd take a huge effort for any club - even Carlton and Collingwood, to outnumber us to any of our home games by any significant amount

Overall it was in the order of 30,000 Hawks fans and about 39,000 Blues fans.

That might be the case BUT we pulled 33,275 against Port a fortnight ago AND Carlton is probably our 2nd biggest rival in terms of hatred (behind Essendon) so that number appears very low.

Do you think more Hawthorn supporters would turn up to see Port Adelaide, a team we have no history against then we would Carlton, our great rival from the '70's and '80's?

I'm not sure even Collingwood draw 40,000 fans to an away game, unless the game happens to be an ANZAC Day game, 40k people purchasing tickets at the gate to an away game is a huge mass of people.

That said all Hawthorn-Carlton games should be at the MCG from now on, had it been a Carlton-Hawthorn game (with Hawthorn recieprical rights) we might have pulled 80,000

Carlton/Collingwood/Essendon/Richmond coming off a premiership.. Not in the next 5 years buddy, can't see any of those sides getting close.. Carlton just don't have any kind of depth. Their bottom 6-10 are an absolute joke ( I mean Cam Cloke shouldn't be playing AFL footy ). Enjoy the rest of the season, as people slowly begin to realise all the hype from biased Carlton people in the media and Carlton fans was just that. Hype. Ciao :thumbsu:

Good crowd at the G, and having spoke to a couple of my Hawk mates who sat in General Reserve he thought Carlton easily outnumbered Hawks. But to be fair he was in a area that had more Carlton supporters.

People who say " Who Gives a Toss" I find amusing, as they are posting and contributing to the 7 pages of posts. Clearly people do. Its just a bit of fun, so take it easy

Definitely more Blues fans in the AFL members, MCC members and general admin areas. Hawks still has a good turn out in their own members area.

But didn't you watch the game on TV?

Looks a good crowd on the TV. Quite a lot of empty seats on ground level in the Hawks members area from behind the goals at the Punt Rd end to around the 50m line though.

How would you know the numbers if you weren't even there to see it?

Looked pretty even to me, but as a Hawthorn supporter I'll say Hawthorn had the numbers

This is wrong.
I was in the AFL Members(Level 1).
There was (as always) a lot of Hawthorn support.
At least 50/50

It was more 60-40. Considering the % allocation to hawthorn members and hawthorn corporate in the stadium - it is ridiculous to suggest that the home team had less support.
