I think you need to show a little more compassion Ned. Kelly's eldest son has been diagnosed with autism and one of his other ones is showing early signs of autism too which definitely wouldn't be easy. Now I'm not saying he should be allowed to get to choose his club out of WC / Freo if he wants to go back to WA so which ever team strums up the best compensation should be able to get his signature IMO. Also FWIW I'm pretty sure Kelly has 3 kids not 2 with the 2 younger ones being twins. Anyways all I'm saying is yes a little compassion should be shown but definitely not a free ticket to his preferred destination.

Where wasn't I showing compassion? My post was dripping with sarcasm. Kelly's family should rightfully come first and Geelong fans who I have seen having shots at Kelly's wife for struggling away from her family network are absolute trash.

And I think when it comes to such a situation with his children - there should be more than a little compassion shown. I would much prefer the club that does what we did with Brad Hill.

They’ve obviously cleared some space for Kelly, which they won’t be using. That would come from some impending retirements over the next season or 2... but seriously what are they thinking in trying to recruit Stevens, Higgins, Goldstein?? You could call it flag chasing but their list will be completely shot in 2-3 years. Would Cameron really want to go to a side that will be heading for a rebuild?
Stevens Higgins Goldstein

Sounds more like a federal election than trade week

the same Geelong supporters who were touting the compassion narrative when Ablett wanted to return home, no doubt.

The guy is irrelevant in terms of footy landscape, not even a B grade player.
I think he is a C level guy that could become a B to B+ level guy in the right system. All comes back to where you would grade players. I think he is a better player than Henderson was for the Crows

I just don’t see the point in getting guys that won’t improve the team, instead of paying a decent salary and losing a draft pick on greenwood I’d rather just play cousins or Howe. I don’t think there’s enough space for him in the mids as we’ll have tom, jom, worps, wingard and shiels, and he’s too slow to play a forward pressure role. I’d rather we look to fill our obvious needs by bringing in a Carlisle/Keath who can lock down a key back position.

I know they are under huge pressure from above.
The mandate was set 2 years ago to draft only quality people but now the board are asking why can't any of them kick
Yet they got Steven May?

Seems like he’s failed at both objectives!

It's a fascinating off season this because if we're to salute again it probably has to be in the next 3 years or we can expect a long drought eg 91-08.

We do have several key pieces entering their prime now, so if we can add the right players around them coupled with a game style that suits then who knows what could happen in the short term.

The thread has had another clean up.

This is not the thread to talk about Hawthorn listed players, nor is it a thread to come up with ideas of how you would do a trade if you were Wright.

It’s for News about Hawthorn trade targets and incoming players only.

Spot on Abasi, sick of coming on this thread just to read about conigilio not joining and some other bullshit

Missing Amon hurts as much as Cogs IMO. He fits a great need at this point in time and would not have cost a whole lot. I think we could have made him a very good player. Such a shame we couldn’t get it done last year. Onwards and upwards.

We get linked to so many players by the media but who really knows what the plan is... we generally don’t give much away!!
GW and the crew will have their plans well and truly in place... who knows if they even really believed they were a good chance to get Coniglio or which other players we’re really keen on for this coming trade period. It’s all guess work from the media and most of us IMO.

I’m looking forward to seeing what we do, it’s usually on the money.
