Yes I agree, but the actual post I quoted had no mention of Clarko coaching Carlton.

Clarko will not be coaching Carlton hence my “he ain’t after a premiership flag” comment
Yeah, it's oversimplifying it but the reality is they have enough on that list that if Carlton could get out of its own way and appoint a decent coach they could contend.
The best thing for clubs like Carlton is what happened with Dogs and Tigers.

Helps them sell, Blues issue is no coach, they can make themselves attractive to players and sell success.

Playing with Cripps as the bulldozer wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

And when there is a half a mil a season in front of you extra it can be more attractive.

Anyway, hope we get him at the right price of he comes.

What do you mean?

He just means why would any sensible player choose Carlton over Hawthorn... We might be bias Hawthorn supporters, but Carlton are the ugly gimp-loser with gapped teeth and acne, along with back acne and side/front acne - they don't get the hot prom date, Hawthorn does.

Cogs and Clarko would put them in contention, they've got enough talent on that list

So Carlton pay Cogs $1.4m a year. Completely destroy their payment scale. What do you have to pay superstar captain Cripps $1.6m a year ? ??
McKay, young Curnow, Jones, Walsh, Weitering, etc plus Clarkson’s $2m per year and the soft cap that goes with it.
Fortunately there are some sensible heads at Carlton.

Anyway, they are playing with themselves. AC has more morals than their collective. F..k off to Lygon Street !!!

I'm not suggesting they will get either Tops or that paying so much to Cogs would be a good idea. More just that you can sell their list with the right coach to players like Cogs
If they had Clarko they could knock a bit off the offer and still be attractive.

The he doesn't want a flag if he goes there comments just irk me. Not specific to Carlton just in general

Don’t let it irk you mate.

It’s a lighthearted dig at a club I really do not like thanks to the way they treated us in the ‘70s & ‘80s

Prior to the Vlahos news, My intel still have Carlton as a slight favorite especially considering their offer is close to $500k more annually. A meeting that took place with Jason McCartney and an ex team mate of his share the same view.

Only recently Coniglio was wanting an answer off Carlton as to their next coach, clearly this is a BIG factor. Carlton 6 weeks away from announcing this helps our cause.

Cogs is genuinely torn/confused. A month ago GWS were a long shot to keep him but they still think he’s a chance to stay now, a much better chance than a month ago.

Plenty of water to go under the Cogs bridge yet.

Look for some big news to come out of Richmond and StK after their respective seasons have finished. Not related.

Brandon Ellis and Jack Steven?

Steven to the Cats but Ellis is a mystery.

Raw speed is overrated. One of the biggest strengths of this midfield will be two-way running. Every single player listed there can:

a) run offensively and defensively
b) win the contested ball when required
c) tackle hard (even the wingmen).

Additionally the only ‘one paced’ player in that group is Mitchell who makes up for it with sheer effort covering the ground and his unmatched contested prowess. The others may not lightning be quick but certainly aren’t slow and can effectively cover the ground. In bursts Worpel/Coniglio/O’Meara are actually quite fast while Henderson/Scully/Sheils cover the ground and are decent in a footrace. I would argue that the ability to cover the ground is more important than raw speed, and was one of the reasons Scully was considering the best wingman in the competition pre-injury.

I concede the above midfield isn’t lighting quick. But it certainly isn’t one-paced. And the combination of both defensive/offensive prowess would be the best in the competition.
Don’t forget Wingard
