If Patton and Scully get done quickly, do GWS so to the Bombers, sorry guys Shiel is not for sale? Or the price has just gone up. Because they would clear massive salary cap space, especially with Lobbe going too. It's getting fascinating.

And if that happened it would be one of the best things I think I've ever seen happen. Watching scum fans despair as we land Scully, Wingard and Scrim (+ extra?) while they get diddly.

Hardwick, May, Stratton
Birchall, Frawley, Sicily
Smith, Mitchell, Scully
Gunston, Roughead, Wingard
Breust, Patton, Puopolo
McEvoy, O'Meara, Shiels
Burgoyne, Worpel, Impey, Morrison

I'm being conservative with the additions tho and Burton might stay.
You forgot the best recruit of all. Number 33 decides he misses the games and slots back into the forward pocket.

"The scale of that likely exodus expanded on Friday when it emerged Tom Scully was set to be traded to Hawthorn and Jonathon Patton, according to rival clubs, had also been put on the table."

Put it this way... Who were GWS in talks with all day.... and suddenly Patton is on the table... put one and one together.

That was after I received mail on Patton... so make of that what you will but I reckon its on like donkey kong.

Not sure why someone inferred BB.... doubt it would be him..

But let me leave with you this.... get pick 3, Port will bend over backwards for just that pick (to acquire Rozee, Lukosius or Rankine).... That will be enough to get Wingard on its own..... which unlocks keeping Burton.....

There’s only 1 player on our list that would likely get us pick 3 and he just won a Brownlow. Anyways if we some how hoodwinked GC for pick 3 then I’d rather draft Rankine or Lukosius.

Give them (port) pick 15 and spares without Burton before we somehow snag pick 3 and we end up drafting Rankine.

Do we want Patton?

I think we do, 25 year old very good target to have in F50 where we are really lacking. Yes the bloke has injury concerns but he is well worth the risk especially given the price that I've heard we are going to pay for him.... (peanuts)

I'd take pick 3 to the draft and draft one of their SA players just to spite Kochie and Co. to be frank.
And then pick up Wingard as a FA the following year and discuss trading the SA kid to Adelaide just for the lulz.

Bugger that. Trade Burton and keep pick 3

The problem with Patton is not what we are going to pay for him but rather what we pay him.

Hasnt got a leg to stand on in negotiating wage. (that was in poor taste.. ill see myself out).

Getting Wingard and keeping Burton is all good and well, it totally depends who your alluding to when it comes to trading for pick 3..

I have no names to put up.... Its just some musings/murmurs that have come up.... I think Hawks have enquired about it. In reality its probably a bridge too far.

I think we end up with Wingard, Scrimshaw, Scully and Patton while keeping Burton.... not sure exactly how we land there but I think thats what will happen.

Are we trading big boy?? Seriously patton cannot play ruck
Patton high risk, high reward. Has done acl 3 times. How many recover fully from that? Also out for most of the year in rehab. Still worth it at moderate coin.

It seems that GWS are clearing their injured players, despite them being contracted. It's a wonder they don't send Deledio back to the Tiges and pay half his wage. Something fishy with Scully if they are paying some of his salary.

If we are fit heading into September next year...wowee

I could be wrong but I have a feeling GC would be willing to give up pick 3 to bring in a few experienced players to lead the team around.

Bingo....

Dont get me wrong, this wont give us an excuse to just throw 4 sets of steak knives at them... we will be giving up quality for that pick but yes this is the direction I think GC are heading.. There is no point having kids with no men to teach them..... Culture is the order of the day at GC and we can deliver that. They gave pick 2 for Weller... anything is possible when it comes to dislodging pick 3 (especially since they hold pick 2 as well)

I agree.
Was thinking they might match the Lynch offer because they already had 2 and established players are worth more to them thna draft pick lest they go back to being a startup team again.

Patton isn't great. He's in the Vickery style of trade, but with more coordination, less hair and fewer cat issues.

Our key forwards at the moment are Roughy, Schoey, O'Brien, Nash, Lewis.
That's why we need Patton. Nash/Lewis way too green. Roughy to rough. Schoey is struggling.

Really we want a battering ram so Roughy can float around. Gunston can be all over the ground and Wingard, Breust and Puopolo can kick a million goals.

Could Roughy still be part of a trade to GC or Carlton? The hawks won't be able to promise him more than one year.

If Roughy gets an extended career elsewhere then i am happy.

But if he stays... i reckon there is a good chance he was carrying some injury during the latter half of the year and i am hoping this will mean we see a more agile version in 2019.

Ill make it clear from the outset... this post is purely hypothetical around what IF we could get GC's 3rd.... having established what we think they want/need....

Im thinking a combination of Smith, Frawley, Duryea, Howe, Stratton, Breust and Schoenmakers...

Before any ragers quote me and blow my head off just give it a think.... Rest assured though, If Lachie Weller was worth pick 2 that Breust and Frawley or Smith and Howe are worth pick 3.

Roughy needs a role where he's not taking key defenders.
We saw against Geelong what he can do if the opposition put a noob on him.

I rate Scrimshaw but there's a lot of stuff on the GC board that isn't positive regarding workrate. This usually happens when a player wants to leave (see Wingard). I would be ecstatic to have Scrim, rated him since his draft year. What do you reckon will get the deal done (is pick 35 enough?)
Its funny the work rate issue never was mentioned to scrimshaw by the GC but we hear it after he requested a trade. Id rather a first round with 2 years in the system than a top 10 pick this year if that player has had good reasons to have not been able to play.

Take Setterfield, absolute gun! Did a knee and ankle, unlucky, 20yo, and got traded to Blues for a third round and change...he will be fit and the Blues will be calling themselves genius’s. Hes better than any 18yo in the draft IMO and so is Scrim but “unproven” seems to rate them worse than a pick 37 2 years later!

A pick 7 plus 2yrs experience to me is a better player but realistically the system says a second or third round will do it...a steal IMO and this is the reason clubs at the top can believe they dont need to go back to the draft!
